Hey all just wondering if anybody has experienced this or has any ideas. Lately my p5 has been idling very low (close to stalling) when i start to brake i can feel the engine almost die and when i'm waiting at a light same thing the engine will fall to a couple hundred rpm before coming back up.
has anybody experienced the same thing?? i don't have the resonator box of the stock intake on but i don't see how that would cause this.
any ideas are appreciated.

Sounds like you're having EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) problems like everyone else. The valve clogs and sticks causing the rough idle. It's fairly easy to clean. 2 10mm bolts and some brake cleaner will do it.

Ha, I don't know very many Protege owners that DON'T have that problem. No one has been able to come up with an answer of definite solution. The only thing that has worked for me is to make sure you aren't pulling air from behind the radiator. That seemed to give me an erratic idle because of the fans blowing hot air into the filter. Mine doesn't do it with the stock box or my CAI, but it did witht he short ram.

This does not fix it. I think it's a short term effect caused by people resetting the ECU when they clean the EGR. I did that and I still had the idle issues.
Edit: Although you are totally right that it can cause the rough idle and is a good idea to try!

I've cleaned mine, and haven't had any issues since. And didn't clear my ECU.
