alright. so everyone has thier opinions. lets take an early vote. nothin final, just to get some ideas out there. so choose the state that you think would be best for EVERYONE as a meeting place. maybe we can narrow this down and then vote again later.

sick, going to fun going broke paying for all the gas driving i cant wait, i guessing delaware is ok, but for me delaware bring up miles of empty road with no cops in site so thats why u chose it. otherwise the dragon would rock

but where are most of our members located? lets say all of them are in new england..which i know is nowhere near true...but it would make more sense to have it near there

i say georgia or tennesee because those are pretty accesible :) plus st louis isnt really on the east coast.....at all.

Mr. Win

I def think it should be in the middle for everyone.

Oh and spring break is a bad idea, i think we should plan for late May early June. That way any snow will be gone.

i say georgia....just cause its kinda close to me and i have some friends in ATL

Mr. Win

It was related more to my first post of spring break, i would imagine there might be snow and planning something this big should prolly bank on a time with the best weather.

other than the dragon which I thought was gonna be closed partly due to construction(not sure when though), what else is there to do in tennesse?

Id really like to see it more North NorthEast, Us up here havent had one near us in a while...might bring a larger crew. Tenn still sounds good, but might need a change of scenerio and go more north. VA/NC area i think might be a great idea. IMO

Time frame for this is what? AUG 06? If its then, we should have a good enough turnout and enough planning. Plus everyone could take off work/school...etc , and i could make this one :-P

St. Louis is the "Gateway to the West", making it the ideal spot for the meet because it'll join more people from the east to the west.

And I don't want to have to rent a hotel room for the meet. Because I'm cheap.

I kinda think you should combined Virginia, Maryland and DC because they are all so close that my vote would be for any of those. :)

Well the name of this thread is 2006 'national' meet...therefore it should be easily accessible for both coast..meaning it should be somewhere in the middle of the country...not on either coast..imho...

also as far as time frame im thinking somewhere in between june and july..that way its not around any other major show...as in spring break nationals or for those that go to nopi...that way you wont have to drive all over the the place back to back....kinda spread it out a lil...again imho

MP3Architect

yeah but it started as a nepoc vs illinois vs dallas people thing. I like how thats several states vs 1 state vs 1 city (and that city was leading votes for the longest). i guess i should have said east coast meet but it was inteanded to include use texans and other central america peeps.
and for the person saying it should be more north of tenn for the new england people..........wha? man theres going to be 20-60 proteges driving from houston, san antonio, austin, dallas. we are DAMN far from states like New Jersey or Penn or whatever. it takes the same amount of time (according to yahoo maps) to get from here to tenn as it does ny to tenn or miami to tenn. i think w. virginia or kentucky should be the highest north that should be considered.

11-17-2005, 08:43 AM
i definitely think having it in a central location would be the best idea. having it in tennessee would be best because its a central spot that doesnt cater to any group. everyone would have to drive about the same distance so please stop saying it should be more north or on the east coast somewhere because thats the worst idea.

sanblaster
11-17-2005, 08:49 AM
I don't understand this thread...The title of the thread is "2006 National Meet," then the title of the poll is "Where should a East coast meet take place?" A national meet in cape cod is stupid. An east coast meet in cape cod makes sense. Which one is it? Ma isn't even on there so who even decided.

no YOU decided that....everyone was saying how stupid that was and you just kept repeating ok so cape cod then? yea cape cod? while everyone was saying its way too far and it should never be that far north. there was nothing decided in that thread other than its NOT going to be in cape cod.....you even went to the extent to break apart your cape cod meet and call all others the "gay meet". we were looking for something central, not specific to your club. if you want a meet in cape cod make a nepoc meet there, while the national meet or "gay meet" as you call it can be somewhere else.

Not very smart? You can't even spell humor right. So your opinion matters? It's been generally decided it should be held in tennessee. We all are aware of this. Nice try on the edit. You spelled humor "humar" I got a laugh out of it. You need to get the sand out of your vagina and lighten up. Chris won't come on here and say "oh I'm sorry I was joking" because he, like myself, feels no need to apologize to bunch of of whiney pissants like yourselves. I was here before you and I'm sure I'll be here after your gone. Trust me, everyone already knows I'm an asshole. You going to fall further down the ladder and resort to e-thug tactics now? hell yeah. could you imagine that convoy? start in San Antonio/Austin/Houston. Meet up in Dallas. 50 proteges leaving and collecting others as we go along. By the time we get to the east side we have close to 100 proteges in a convoy. That would be absolutely amazing. We would OWN the road. can't wait.

My dad rode his Kawasaki ZRX 1100 on that a few years back, and he said he was pushing it at 30mph through there, and we're in cars, that handle a lot worse...either somone will die or it'll be the slowest drive ever, and take like an hour to get through.

You don't really ever leave 2nd gear, if you are then you are pushing it too hard through most areas. Just remember, this isn't a race-track, just one of the biggest stretches of backroad you will ever see. Gorgeous scenery too, lots of good photo spots.

for step 1 I would have had a thread voting on groups of states rather than individual states. This setup is ridiculous since someone could vote for DC when they could just as easily like PA or MD or VA or NC, but they had to pick one so they just happened to pick DC IE: ME NH VT RI MA CT NY - NJ PA DE MD DC WV VA - IL IN OH KY TN - NC SC GA MS AL FL

Then another poll, if for example the new england ones won:
CT MA RI NY - ME NH VT
followed by an individual state poll.

I would also set up a website where you collect mazda forums user names along with e-mail addresses from those interested. Then you can be sure that people from california (maybe) arent voting and skewing the numbers. You will also have a list of those voting and participating so you can send out e-mails ot all of them each time a new thread pops up (which happens all the time)...IE each time you post a narrowed down poll, or if you just start a "new official" thread (how many times does that happen).

also when you pick "heads" I would make sure you have an odd number and only one person from each state or region or however you divide it up. (even though we need a large number of dedicated people central to where this will be held to organize it effectively they should still have only 1 rep in this group of main organizers) You can have many people helping to organize if you want but the main group should be as small as possible to eliminate confusion, and it will make deciding things easier "do we go to park a or b?"

TN, GA or even the MD/DC/NVA is ok by me. Ohio is pretty central to those areaa, no more than a 5-7 hour drive from Cleveland, with the exception of GA.

I have in laws in TN, near the Tri-Cities, lots of state and national parks in the area. Also, have a sister in law in Savannah, so were pretty cool with any area the majority chooses.

it could also be held in west north carolina (robbinsvile on tennessee border ) and that way people will be close to atlanta for nopi and they will get a chance to experience tail of the dragon.

does tennesee even have a mazda club? no point in holding it there if they don't have one.

but its the best opportunity to have it since many people will be heading that way. if you hold the meet sooner, some people might not come since not everybody can make a long trip twice a year. i can certainly guarantee you that none of the people from in intense from south florida will show up for it unless its during nopi weekend. its just impossible to have to get time off work/school, put the money together and make the trip twice a few months apart.

So, can I go out on a limb here and say that it's going to be Tennessee??? If so, the next step should be deciding what greater area (what city) we should have it at. I just looked at a map of Tennessee. There are a few cities to consider... Memphis is way southwest, more along the idea of a "central" national meet. Nashville is the capital and we could listen to country music there. Knoxville... don't know much about that. Chattanooga is always a fun place to do 90mph in the mountains... uh I mean...nevermind. Bristol has a speedway, maybe we could host the meet there... it's in the northeast corner of Tenn. There's also Athens, which, if my memory serves me correctly, is close to the Tail of the Dragon.

bristol has the drag strip at the speedway too...so that could be something to look into. think a few days of everyone getting to blow up there beloved mazdas together. zoom zoom boom??

We could meet at Roan Mountain State Park in Bristol as a starting point and proceed from there. Here is the web site for the park.

That sounds like allof of fun. I definately want to drive the Tail of the Dragon. If that's what we plan on doing, I will make a huge effort to get my RX-7 running right before the trip. I the Tail of the Dragon website that has plenty of information about it.

A friend from work went with his Harley group and a couple thousand bikers met there. He said that portions of the road were blocked off for a couple of hours so only the Harleys could ride on it. That would be cool to look into.

there's no way to have a NATIONAL meet this year, i think it may already be too late to start planning this, especialy w/o Mazda's corporate help

that, and there needs to be a particular date set as well, prefereably before the location
i'm already planning to go to texas this summer for another forum meet

Yup way too late to plan one now. We shoul start for next year, maybe with a new thread not littered with off topic and bullshit posts.

YellowMP5
01-28-2006, 02:38 PM
why is it too late? dozens of mazdas come to nopi in atlanta from all over so set that event as the official meet. i know i am not going to drive to tennessee for the meet and then few months later to atlanta. by having the meet the same week as nopi saves people from driving too far too often and also provides for a better opportunity for people all over to come together since some allready will be going to nopi.

i think we decided on tennesse but atlanta is close by so it can still be the same weekend. we need to reserve the nopi date in september and someone needs to call mazda and notify then and try to get some help out of them.

Rumpleforeskin
01-28-2006, 03:08 PM

If the meet is to be held in TN I say we all camp out at some big park. It's worked well in the past.

I can help you guys out, once you have a date and place in mind. I planned a meet for some members of our 6 club @ Mid-Ohio and Mazda Corporate is helping us out.

I started the Mid-Ohio meet 6 months ago and got Tri-Point, Protomotive and Tindol Motorsports involved, once they were on board, Mazda Corporate got involved. Here is an e-mail from Jim Jordan of Protomotive:

Sounds great, and there may be some ticket programs available through Mazda if you have not bought tickets yet. I know there is some discussions about Mazda hosting owner clubs at these events, so I forwarded your email to the guy at Mazda who is organizing these events. I hope this is OK.

Thanks again, and I look forward to meeting you at Mid Ohio.

Jim

All someone has to do is organize the event and I can see what I can do to Mazda involved.

There is still plenty of time to plan a meet, it is only February! It just takes someone to set a date, time and place. The poll states that everyone chose TN and I know that there is interest in Deal's Gap ( Tail of the Dragon ), we'll Mazda Corporate backed up the Miata clubs when they had a meet there.

So, I know they'll do it for us, once it is organized. They have lodging in the area, just get a hold of someone in group sales and get a price for rooms. Again, I would do it, but I have a meet that I am working on for my Mazda 6 club, so I have very little time to work on a second large scale meet.

If someone takes ownership of this, I can assist with Mazda and some of the smaller detail/duties of this meet. Hopefully, someone can take the bull by the horn and get this done, as the longer it takes, the less people will show as other meets are being planned!

We get to meet with Tri-point team, Tindol Motorsports and Protomotive Mazda 6 teams.

You can show off your Mazda6, modded or not or any Mazda you may own. In addition, come cheer on your favorite Mazda 6 team in the Speed World Challenge, Tri-Point, Tindol Motorsports & Protmotive Motorsports.

All members will be able to meet and greet the owners, drivers, engineers and the crews of these teams, this will be exclusive to the members of our clubs. Here is an e-mail from Chris Tindol, owner of Tindol Motorsports, extending an invitation to see their operation in Charlotte, NC

Marlon,

This sounds like a Great idea!! We are located in N.C. Right out of Charlotte. If any members would like a 1st hand look at our shop plus our cars please call. Right now we are working on some handleing issues with our cars. All the cars are at the shop.(5) We will be testing in a few weeks in virginia, sebring, and a few other places getting ready for the 2006 season. If we can help in any way don't be shy, ask us!! Keep in touch.

Also, Mazda Corporate may end buying tickets for Mazda owners, normally the cost would be $90 for 3 days. We have over 75 Mazda 6's attending, I don't know how many Protege owners, RX owners, Miata owners and other various models of other owners will be atending.

So if the National meet is not happening, you are more than welcome to attend this one.

I'll consider it. I'd be coming from either Rochester, NY or Connecticut.. either way it's like a 24 hour drive to Florida (at least where I've driven to in Florida.. middle area Innverness etc).

I'd definitely MUCH rather see a National meet in like Virginia or TN or something. That way the IL people, the MEC people, the MTMA people, the NEPOC people, and hell if people from DFW or Houston wanna drive up.. plus the CME people and the Florida people of course.. that's a lot of people.

24 hours??? BAH I say!!!! it's only 1300 miles.... I did the same distance in 16 hours when I drove to Chi-town 'few years back from Miami (Coral Springs for those who know South Florida) That's like three hours more than the drive from Tampa, FL to Chi-town.

this Tampa thing makes the most sense....

1. Already a scheduled meet

2. Great location

3. In Florida....which means beaches

4. Plenty to do

5. Tons of hotels, unlike most tenn. areas especially gatlinburg/pigeon forge those are always booked up.

slug420
02-23-2006, 12:32 PM
lol, no it doesnt

1. A parking lot as the destination as opposed to one of the nation's most popular driving roads.

2. Hardly a central location, the southeastern most state in the union which is actually a peninsula extending away from the mainland, and the destination is half way out on that peninsula no less.

3. July 22 in Tampa is hot as ballz.

4. Tail of the Dragon which had been discussed elsewhere is FAR more centrally located, and this would be more likely to draw larger numbers (assuming of course everyone from FL would be willing to drive the distances they are expecting everyone else to drive with the meet in Tampa)

5. Lets be real, scheduling a local meet isnt a big deal so the fact that this is already scheduled shouldnt make or break this thing.

im not saying im not still going to try to attend, but dont act like this is a good location or like it makes any sense to have it there.

You mean assuming they are willing to drive less than half the distance they are expecting some people to drive... Like yeah it would be awesome if we made said "hey everyone come to Kent Falls CT we'll make that the national meet".. but then it would just be NEPOC and some MTMA people.. I'm willing to drive quite a bit to go to an Eastern U.S. meet.. but not to Florida. I mean I'll probably still end up doing it if we get a big caravan going but it'll suck. Plus if it's the 2nd half of July I'll be missing out on vacation time at Newfound Lake in NH which will add like 4 hours to the drive time each way. ugh.

Assholes, it was a statewide meet to begin with. People started signing up from all over, so why not? No one is making ANY progress with the national meet so why the hell not. There are a lot of people coming and if it's too far for you, then don't come. Simple as that. Keep the negativity shit out of here though. By the way, a "national" meet at the dragon is a great idea! Where the fuck do you think you are going to put that many cars? Have you ever been there before? We'll be in jail in like 20 minutes. It's bad enough there with all the bikes.

I'm not trying to rain on the parade of your Florida state meet. This is the 2006 National Meet thread. No, I've never been to Tail of the Dragon so I have no idea about lodging etc. We could always find a park and set up tents (or just sleep in cars ha).

I would really love to see a National (well eastern U.S. at least) meet actually happen this summer. I think it would be great for so many of the regulars on this forum to actually be in one place at the same time. Considering the scale of the 2004 NJ meet and that it was basically just MTMA and the NEPOC and MEC caravans, if we could push it a bit more south and west so that IL and maybe Texas people could make it that would be great.

I've never been in TN or that whole area really so I have no suggestions as to where it could be.

Again I'm sorry that you thought we were attacking the Florida meet.. I just don't want all this talk of the Florida meet to dissuade people from actually organizing a real national meet.

It's called iniatative, most of these forum members lack it.

Whether it's in Florida of not this has to be organized ASAP you people do realize its march and for something to happen plans need to be set in stone right away. The only reason I decided to list this as the "national meet" is because the florida statewide meet has people coming from.... the nation!!!!! What better is there to do in the summer, than to drive down with the kiddies (who by the way aren't in school :)) and hang with hundreds of mazdas an hour and a half from Disney World?

Everybody has been complaining about stepping up to get this National meet done. Fine I'm stepping up and grabbing it by the horns!!!!!!!!!! We have a date, we have a paradise location (for those who have only heard of FL and never been) We are coordinating caravans, we are coordinating food and hotels. I understand that people do not want to drive, or are afraid to drive or whatever, but why not make this your vacation + a national meet!!!!! For out of staters, there IS A WHOLE f@#LOAD TO DO IN CENTRAL FLORIDA. You all were so on the game for going when no place was decided. People would have still bitched about having it in Tenn or IL or NY or CT or anywhere!!!!! We (the coordinators) have already done most of the planning, all it requires is for you northerners to suck it up, be adventerous, jump in your car and friggin ROAD TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have driven from Chicago to Miami plenty of times.... It is a great drive!!!!! approx 1300 miles, the same distance to NYC and pretty darn close to the Middle of TX. It'll take 18hours, TOPS, from those areas to Tampa, FL

And, btw, the temps up north are higher in the summer than down here in FL. It's the humidity that'll kill you!!!! THAT'S WHY WE HAVE TEH BEACHES!!!!!!!
