Hi,
I have a 2001 Mazda Protege ES 2.0 with the stock stereo unit. I have an iPod and I want to install the Neo iOn SP (http://www.carplayer.com/) so that I can play my itunes in my car. The iOn hooks to the cd changer port in car stereos and you access it by pressing the cd changer button in the front panel.
Yet, I don't see a cd changer button on my car, just a "tape/md" button. Can I install this on my protege?
Thanks,
Leo
I dont think you can hook up the iOn SP to the stock stereo, since stock stereo doesn't have CD changer control.

I also have a Mazda 3 (2005) and I don't see a cd changer control, but it seems people are connecting it to that some how.
I wish stock stereos were a bit more standard lol :) With connections atleast.
I wonder what's my best option for connecting my iPod directly to my stereo.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Leo

Click on the image below to see the port I found on my 2001 Mazda Protege ES 2.0 OEM Stereo.
It's a 16-pin port and I noticed my stereo has "Disc +" and "Disc -" buttons on the front, so it seems it has cd-changer capabilities.
I was also checking out PIE's MAZ/PC-ALP (http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=445) adapter and I'm interested in seeing if anyone has had success getting this to work on a 2001 Protege :)
I wish I bought a 2002... lol
Thanks guys!
Leo

I installed the Neo iOn yesterday, but no sound came out of my speakers. I hit CD twice, which took my to the cd changer (Neo iOn), but no matter how loud I put it, no music came out (the radio and cd player worked fine).
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Leo
