I have a 92 protege lx auto trans and need advise on diagnosis. I changed a bad cv joint last year (right side). Current symptoms are a little different than before. Was experiencing a "wheel hop" type action while driving forward slowly. some heavy "clunking" sound. Had thought to check motor mounts using a slight brake torque method to see if engine moved and it didn't. While doing so a loud grinding occured and now the car wont move at all. With front end off of ground i can rotate right side tire while in park. faint clicking sound. Left side can be rotated some what but will stop in one revolution. while under car, I can not move shafts like I could before when i changed it last year.
Does this sound like a CV joint problem and if it isnt a cv joint problem, do I have to remove engine with trans or can i remove trans seperatly. Any advise would be appreciated.

sounds like you lost a gear/torque converter. the tranny can be dropped seperately.


perfect time for a 5speed swap ;)
