I was wondering what a good setup would be. I was thinking of getting 2 sony 12" xs-L122P5, a sony xm-2200GTX amp, and a Q logic dual 12" box. What do you guys think? Is sony a good brand? What would be better (put out more bass/louder bass)? What would you suggest?

bass= JL Audio subs. best bang for your buck if you like clear sound. also, try searching in the audio section.

yep. What spicy said.

Also you may look into Q-power subs. Most of people didnt hear about it but its pretty good.

also cadence makes very good subs. They are pretty pricey though.

and yea as someone said, next time try using search feature on these boards.

Look into RE *resonant Engineering* subs, or adire audio, or even kicker CVR's <-- budget sub gets loud, and uh yeah id stay away from all sony stuff, their amps tend to overheat and most people have had cases of them catching fire.. lol their subs dont really domuch because the motor structure is very inefficient, dont even try to look at audiobahn subs, they are horrible, true some will get loud but those are the high end ones that require alot of wattage.. umm for an amp look into MTX they are all awsome amps, audiobahns amps are pretty good relitively but are overrated, and jl amps are excellent. if your building a budget sys, go for 2 kicker cvr 12" s a sealed box, and a audiobahn a8002t will run you about 450 well atleast thats what i payed for mine like 2 years ago, but that sys is long gone.

I own crap you never heard of and cost alot less, that sounds better then sony. That would be simular to putting kenwood speakers in your car. Waste of money.

I would rather have spent my money on Pyramid or Pioneer.

i have decided against the sony stuff and now this is what im going for: 2 JL 12" W1v2 and JL E1200 Monoblock Amp. What do you think?

IMHO, single sub systems sound better(not to mention save space). I've had a few subs in my time, but my mono amp and solitary sub in the bandpass box makes some amazing bass. Its always been crisp, clear, and full; no matter what headunit, though its been best with my new Clarion.

The Sony stuff isn't horrible, but those subs sound best in a bandpass box. The amps though, ALMOST ALWAYS over heat. To hell with them.

As far as your proposed setup goes, I think they're very well matched. Those are dual voice coil speakers though, no? Do some inverstigation and check with Crutchfield. They have a deal going where you buy an amp or speaker or some combo of things you'll need anyway and they'll give you one of those elements for free.(either the speaker, box, or amp; theres a few varations of the deal) Not to mention free shipping. On top of that, if you go with them you can get 20 more bucks off from using my promotional code for telling a friend or something.

Sounds good. I agree with flyin_by about Cruthfield. They are second to none as far as customer service, support, and free stuff. Do shop around and weigh the pros and cons.

This is what my local audio shop is charging: Alpine am/fm/cd/mp3 reciever w/BBE (for use w/my iPod) $200+$35 for install, JL amp $180+$55 for install, $240 for both JL subs, $70 for R&T box, and $40 for stinger 8 gauge amp wiring kit, total of $882 and i have a 10% off coupon which brings it to about $790. Do you think thats fair?

and by the way crutchfield doesnt have JL, they had alpine, audiobahn, kicker, rockford fosgate, and sony. I think that was it with the specials

Guess i should have looked first. I think the price is right if you dont want to deal with it. Now-A-Days I think I would pay someone else to do it also.

That price they're giving you isn't so bad, considering what you're getting. However, when you put that nicely powered alpine unit in, youre going to blow your stock speakers, QUICK. Its hard to keep it quiet. : )

I just put in a professional Clarion type and it blow my stocks in about 2-4 days. Thus, I just finished up installing the Infinity Reference Components. They're freggin awesome, I can do just about whatever I want sound wise now and no worries about blowing any more speakers.

Anyway, as for Crutchfield, Alpine and Audiobahn make some quality stuff, despite what others say. For the specials you've got going, they can hook you up.

Personally, I have a dual-voice coil Audiobahn 12 in a bandpass box with a Rockford Fosgate 301mono amp powering it. I don't have it hitting NEAR as hard as its capability, and its waaaaaay more than what I need.

Anyway, your shop isn't raping you to bad, but try and see if they'll throw in a pair of factory replacements for spending so much cash with them, and just them. Haggling gets you further than you'd ever think.

What's your plan for front speakers? A pair of 12" subs is overkill if you don't upgrade the front stage....unless you just listen to rap. I'd recommend at least a pair of components and a 75-100w x 2 amp to round things out.

My local store is pretty stiff when it comes to haggling. I'm going to try and get them to cut me a deal, but i dont think they will. I think I'm going to see how my stock front speakers do once i get the new headunit and then decide if i want new ones or if they blow then ill obviously get new ones.

IMO best "bang for the buck" sub is the Acoustic Elegance AV series

AV12 $150
12" woofers displacement per dollar comparison:

2.33L for the AV12 at $175.00 = $75.11 per L
1.53L for the Dayton DVC12 at $119.20 = $77.90 L
1.89L for the Titanic MKII at $149.80 = $79.26 per L
1.52L for the Shiva 12" at $125.00 = $82.24 per L
2.38L for the Brahma 12" at $369.00 = $155.04 per L

AV15 $180
15" woofers displacement per dollar comparison:

3.8L for the AV15 at $205 = $53.94 per L
2.4L for the Dayton DVC15 at $132.50 =$54.30 per L
2.56L for the Tempest 15 at $150 = $58.60 per L
4.09L for the Brahma 15 at $429 = $104.89 per L

*** note the prices for the subs were higher at the time the comparison was done, its an even better deal now

I'm getting one next week so I may be a bit biased:)

Since when is displacement a comparable statistic?

Dollar for dollar, the Image Dynamics ID12v3 is one of the best. You won't find anything in the same price range that sounds or performs better.

well the AV's sound great as well, i dont have mine in yet but i have heard them and they are great sounding subs

its all relative to what you are running them with and what type of box though

there are a ton of nice subs out there, the AV series is just my choice for "bang for buck" so I wanted to get the word out since they aren't as well known as the others

**oh yeah and in his original post he says "(put out more bass/louder bass)? " and dispacment is relative in that instance

So are both of those better than JL's because i was told that JL's were like top of the line

JL's are still a defacto standard...but for the price there are plenty of other options out there.

no mentions alpine type-R?? and resonant engineering is overkill, i would love to own there subs, but i think those would knock a protege to its grave.
