Ok, so im a realy paranoid guy when it comes to this stuff, but anyways. After my car is warmed up, and has been driven for a while, at idle, I have noticed a noise coming from underneath the car, like in the oil pan area. Its a rattleing noise, yes, sort of like marbles, but not that loud. And I listen to all my friends MSP's, and they all sound smooth, except for the classic valve tic. Is this a sign that my engine is letting go? I dont know if I can do a test to determine if its rod knock, or bearings?? Im scared (bang) Its been like this for a few months, but it runs good, and any rpm above idle, the noise goes away. Any ideas would help me.

thanks,
Ian

Maybe this is a simplistic suggestion, but do you think maybe the heat shield is loose on the cat? The sound you described is just like that of a loose cat heat shield rattling around and it usually goes away at above-idle RPM. It's worth a look...

I would check that, if I had any cats. But, I do maybe think its a rattle more than and engine problem, or at least I hope, cause I do have the AWR engine mounts, and ever since then, my car rattles more than ever.

Maybe your exhaust is rubbing up against some part of the car. Are you using the stock hangers? It sure sounds exhaust related to me...

could be valve tick, because it is pretty loud on perfectly healthy FS-DE's, or it could be your exhaust rattling up against shift linkage or something.

Are you stock? Take it to the dealer!

he posted he has no cats, so dealer is out of the question

Try to get under the car while its running, preferably on a lift (of course) and use something to put pressure on various heatshields, etc. to see if you can make the noise stop.

I've had a ton of stupid little rattles coming from the undercarriage of my msp. Most of them were caused by loose heatshields or exhaust hangers. However, the worst one I've had was when a small rock somehow got wedged between the heatshield just below the shifter and the actual undercarriage.

You have awr mounts thats why. They make everything on the car shake and rattle at idle. I wouldn't worry about it, probably sounds just like mine.
