that sounds about right, i guess i was payin too much attention to him purposely taking the corner fast, which isnt the actual accident, him crashing into the wall is the actualy accident.

By chance you played too much with the needle? You will have to take everything apart again and inspect carefully the needles and see if the mechanism is in the correct position and resting where it should be.
Don't know if you understand me but once you take it apart you will know what i mean. Just be patient when you do.

Yup...stopped by to see it on the way home and found one mistake. They have it listed as Aurora Blue but it is Phantom Blue (what I initially thought it was)...bonus as that is the other color Tamz likes.

Take down the VIN and call Mazda USA. They'll know what it left the factory as.
And if I'm not mistaken, swapping from halogens to HIDs in the Mazda 3 isn't any harder than doing it on your average housings, isn't that correct?
PS, I still have my kit from protephile that I never installed before I sold the P5... I should probably put that, my MP3 ECU and a couple other assorted things up for sale here soon huh? Just in time for Chrismahannukwanzaka!

I'm pretty sure I hooked it up right. The only thing that bothers me is which wire to connect the knocklite signal wire too. There's two wires connected to the ecu. Pin 57(yellow/blue wire) and pin 59(red wire). Pin 57 connects to the factory knock sensor red wire and pin 59 connects to the factory knock sensors black wire. I opted to connect the knocklite sensor wire to pin 57 since it connected to the factory knock sensor red wire. My reasonig for that is because if you use a aftermarket kncok sensor you connect the knocklite sensor wire to positive according to the installation instructions. The knocklite rpm signal you get from pin 48(lavender wire). So far the shift lite portion of the knocklite works fine. I've callinrated the knocklite and I guess I'm not getting any knock but that all depends if I tapped the right pin(57or59). I put a tap on pin 59 but haven't tried it yet. Also not going to try and up the booost to try and purposly cause knock. Hmmm

Stock radio can be a bitch to pull. you need to get 2 pair of the stereo puller wires (you can get them from Wal-Mart for $3. Some people are successful with using coat-hanger wire instead.
you need to pop the black plastic cover pieces off of the sides of the stereo. Just use a thin knife and gently pry them right out.
Then you just stick in the pullers into the holes, and you have to squeeze them inwards, while pulling out.
good luck

I practiced on my buddy's ES before pulling mine... after the first time it gets easier.. Watch anything sharp around the plastic bezel (the plastic carbon fake-ber) it scratches easily.
I used 4 small screwdrivers (jewelers) and slowly worked mine out the first time, the second and third times I used two 6 inch segments of coathanger wire bent in two u shapes. You just need to un-clip some clips on the sides of the stock headunit. I hope i helped, I'd show you how if you came to Alaska...

You can also pop out that black square (where the MD player would go) and reach in there and pull

Pulling the factory deck really isn't that tough... other than holding onto four tools at the same time... (and yes, coat hangers work fine if you get 'em bent right, but the tools designed for the job are better at giving the right leverage for disengaging the retaining clips).
You insert them into the six holes (middle on each side is ovular and accepts two tool ends), pull them away from the center of the stereo so the tools disengage the metal clips holding it in, and pull out of the dash.
The toughest part in the P5 is not scratching the bezel with any of the rough metal surfaces you're pulling out of it... you could remove the bezel first, but to actually get it out of the way you have to disconnect all the climate controls which is way more of a pain than using a little patience to prevent scratches imho.
I know Crutchfield has some videos that should show the basic concept of using those tools, though I doubt they have a double din example. (Single din is a cake walk... our double din is a mild jog around the block.)
If I had a stock unit in my car I'd make a vid for you... but seeing my aftermarket head come out of the dash would be useless for your current situation.

I fit a new 42" plasma TV in the P5 yesterday. It was a tight fit but everything worked out in the end. Even with 225-ish whp I still love the versatility of this thing. I would have used the truck but it was snowing and I didn't want a $1300 TV just sitting out there in it.

42" is perfect in my opinion. I've had a 24, 27, and 32 already. Spread throughout the house now. lol
I have a buddy with a 60 something inch and it's like sitting at the front row in a movie theater. Too much to keep track of.
Plus, i got a helluva deal on mine last year. Last model( and display model) Samsung. Got it with 2 year warranty on the bulbs for $800. It's 720P, not the full on 1080 cause i don't have anything that'll play in full 1080P. So, i didn't need it

That's just how we roll I suppose. In actuality my fiance' and I both just bought large flat panel TVs. She picked up a 52" Samsung LCD which will become the main TV when she moves out to OH and I picked up a 42" Panasonic Plasma that I'm currently using as my main TV which will become the "bedroom" TV.
Anyway, the TV would have fit better if it's box wasn't so enormous. The box was like 32" tall which just barely slid into the hatch. Being a plasma, I could lay it flat which further made things difficult. I was just mad when I finally got the thing opened and found out there was about 8 inches of space between the top of the TV and the top of the box. Without that, everything would have fit just fine. Now I just have to put my rear STB back in place...
But man, carrying a 42" plasma up a flight of stairs and putting everything together yourself is tough work! I definitely suggest having a helping hand!

The joys of DLP. The tv is SUPER light.
Building the TV stand was another chore though.
We've got the 42" DLP in the living room, 24" regular TV in the master, 27" regular in the office, and 19" LCD moniter in the guest room.
We gave away the 32" cause it's just too honking big to fit anywhere other than the livnig room. The stand in the bedroom, which was our entertainment stand when we first got married, was made for a 27, so it has the 24" and some speakers on it now

You can't. The cargo cover rests on the side plastic trim pieces which you have to remove to install the rear cage. Technically you could cut them up to fit around the bars but I really don't think there'd be much left. I'm still trying to find a way to put the cargo cover back there.
Looks good though. I didn't like the orange so mine is all powdercoated black except the actual strut tower bar.

The protege's a very stiff chassis. I doubt you'd notice much more than the typical placebo effect unless you were doing some serious road racing... but even then I doubt you'd see the lateral loading to give you the chassis flex to actually see a difference with this.
But then again if you were doing that, you'd have a cage that braced the rear strut towers against the rest of the chassis... so again, not really useful.

If it were just the rear strut tower bar then yeah, cutouts would work just fine but with the connecting bars I don't see any way of just "notching" out some plastic. I imagine you'd end up removing most of the plastic! FWIW, I still have the plastic trim that is just above the rear bumper cover and carpet installed. The carpet isn't perfect so I'm debating getting some MDF and carpeting material and making a new one.
As for sound, I really haven't noticed too much of a difference. Maybe some more road noise but I didn't really notice an increase in exhaust noise.

One day in 2005, between Abilene to Austin I had a little over a quarter of a tank left and I meant to stop at a gas station, but missed my turn into it... I was pressed for time so I thought to myself (and discussed with my codriver), we'll just hit the next one, after all I have a quarter tank left. We passed through 6 little towns none of which had a gas station still in business, the gas light came on and we went 66.6 miles before we were able to gas up. That time I put in 15.5 gallons in my P5, probably one of the scariest drives I've done. We both had cell phones, no service, and we were the only car on that highway for MILES.

I had upgraded from sealed beam headlights to H4 replacable bulbs. Didn't realize that rubber cap was needed, went out mudding, and didn't understand why my light output was worse with the upgraded headlights.

dunno if you saw my post, but i just dealt with the same thing.
The only way you can get rid of it, is to work in a dry area, with a blow dryer.
remove the high beam bulb, and the 2 boots on the low beam. Blow the air into the light until all the condensation is gone, than let it sit. If you have those little things of silica, attach those to some string, and put those in the lamp. Wait a couple hours for the lamp to air out, put the bulb back in, and attach both boots snugly. You should have no more condensation issue.

I used to live in Seminole, Longwood to be exact. And yeah, their trail system is pretty impressive for a road bike setup. Miles and miles and miles of trails.
Now, i'm about 2 hours south and our trails consist of crushed coral paths through the woods. No paved bike trails anywhere

Check TMBRA.org for more..................I mean it isn't WV but much more elevation change than FL or Houston area where I'm at. Even here we have a few places that are pretty kickass.

Back up to roof racks..........No good for muddy bikes! My road(ish) bikes or any ride where there's no mud involved is OK but no way am I puttin my krusty demon mt bike all caked up after a highly theraputic crazy mud ride on the roof & that would account for most rides that involve not leaving from the house on the bike. Mucho spooj FTW!
BTW, I spec, build, maintain & rebuild everything on all my bikes down to wheel building so I am not shy to use them in the fashion they were designed to be used. Mud is good, mud is fun, just not on the roof of the car! Actually, any muddy rides I take the truck.

plus i'ld rather have the back mount....a friend of mine had a p5 and roof mount and went through a a drive through and ripped off the rack and did some hella damage.
i lived a 30 min downhill ride to a state forest (http://www.kanawhastateforest.com/biking.html)with great trails....it would take about an hour and a half to get out though but so worth it

This morning.....
Pulled the car into the garage just as it started raining to remove the bumper. Thankfully I have just enough room to do what I need to to pull it off.
Broke both effin clips on the headlights in the process....anyone who has taken off the bumper knows which ones I mean. Then one bolt on the plastic piece that sits just in front of the light to hold it in place wouldn't come out. It will spin but spins at an angle. So knowing that you can remove the light w/o removing this piece I start to wiggle it out and *crack* it breaks....see pic.
Then while blowdrying it out, the damn blowdryer overheats....so now I have a silica gel pack resting inside while it cools.
On the bright side, it stopped raining and the kitchen cabinets will be delivered in about 30 minutes.
CTt3P5
12-04-2008, 03:45 PM
And this afternoon....
Bah....dried out the head light....re-mounted and made sure the rubber boot was on nice and snug. Re-installed the bumper, which btw is a pita with one person with both head light clips broke. lol
After that, I ran some errands and on the way back to the car in the parking lot....you guessed it, the same damn light was fogging up on the inside. Popped the hood and the boot is still on nice and snug, so maybe I need to silicone the seal?
Whatever I do, needs to be done before inspection.

tried the dynolicious program for the iphone for the first time since getting it... probably not to accurate because i started on an incline, dead stop, making a right turn onto the highway. but this is what i got... and i think i overshot on the weight of my car but i figure 3500lbs is close enough... Also didn't get up to 1/4 mile because of upcoming traffic...
check out my mod list for more details of the car. But
Boost = 7psi
also had a little bit of knock at around 5500rpm. On top of that i didn't get to pull third gear all the way as you can tell from the graph.

Came up with an idea lastnight driving home.
Anybody think it would work?
take apart the stock tails and where the halogen bulb is, maybe fab up a bracket to hold the LED's from the Acura TL's?
http://i21.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/f6/60/1551_1.JPG
Have 2 horizontal LED strips that will actually be visible as opposed to just putting cheap-o led bulbs

You are too much Tylor....lol Hey man, it's your money dowhatcahlike. And if the TL headlights and suspension are the last that's a nice way to go.
jeff, what happened to the headlight?
At first I thought it was due to the rubber boot partially popping off from all of the wires/rubber washer stuffed in there for the HID kit. Apparently though, the seal is shot from when they were painted. I did buy this set used off of another member and last winter they gave me no problems.

Definitely not 7 inches wide; I guarantee you that. They're either 6 or 6.5 inches wide, I can't remember which. I really want to say stock wheels are 16x6 +50mm with a 5x114.5 or (5x4.5) bolt pattern.

Actually I just went out in the garage and measured them and from outside edge of the wheel to outside edge of the wheel(tire not included) they are 7-1/8" wide. That might not be where the width of a wheel is measure though, not sure

Considering that the stock tire width measurement is 195 (IIRC), I would also say that stock rims are 6". I think you should be measureing the inside of the bead, that should get you closer to 6".
