Never thought I'd say it, but let it snow.

Fixed the air direction (or airflow mode) knob which didn't want to go all the way to defrost. So on windshield+legs I'd get windshield only, on legs I'd get windshield+legs flow & so on. It was just a cable misalignment so it was quick too. While there, I also made sure temp knob actually generates max warmth since I'm in Toronto :)

Put in the MP3 ECU yesterday but didn't get a chance to post.

Score! Yeah, not a huge power increase, but just a better running car all around.

It's just another peice to the puzzle for making power. Combine that with an intake, header, highflow midpipe, and catback exhaust, and it's quite nice

Got the intake, and the header's on the way (just bought that AWR 4-2-1 that was up for sale).
I'll have to wait a bit before I go for the rest of the exhaust, but its all on the list.

There is a Magnaflow catback exhaust FS in the FS section. Then, the only thing missing is a highflow midpipe.

That's my last piece of the puzzle before i think about underdrive pullies and lighter pullies and all that jazz

Yup, just tuning it up before I put it in the P5, it needs new manifold gaskets, and a new disty, then it should be ready to go.

Doh, that sucks.

The PSSSHHHHh scares me for this reason
Well the majority of the oil is from my feed/return lines. I'm hoping it's just because I made my own braided steel lines and I went with cheap parts. In two weeks or so I'll probably go have some good quality ones made for me. The leaks that really baffle me are the oil leaks from the drain plug and the oil return flange as 1) drain plugs shouldn't ever leak and 2) I even used a gasket on the return flange. The other annoying leak is the coolant from the drain on my Corksport radiator. I see no way of fixing this without finding some sort of small, 1/8" rubber plug.

I'm just really scared I may have stripped my oil pan drain and that's where the leak is coming from. I wouldn't know how to fix that.

I just remember that a while back when I first had installed it I jacked up the car after a drive after about a week and I noticed a little bit of oil at the drain plug. So not really thinking I grabbed my wrench and gave it a quick turn and I noticed it turned really easily. Maybe this was because the pan was still hot or the washer still had some crush left in it but it's got me paranoid now.

Got an extra lower P5 grill delivered today.

I can typically get 330-340 miles before the light comes on but I seldom wait that long. I typically refill around 310-320 miles. I can manage 26-28 mpg depending on how I drove on that tank. I drive about 30 miles each day; maybe 70/30 highway/city. Not too bad with the turbo I don't think.

the only mod ive done is the custom ram to it, which is cutting off a piece of the grille that blocks off the air going through the grille and up into the stock intake inlet.
besides that and painting the grille. what is there to do? is there something your looking for specifically?

I had Callie's mom in the car with us this past weekend, and she ALWAYS rides in callie's car since that's what we take up to Orlando.

This weekend was her first time in my car, and, after getting back home, she says," Callie, i have to admit, I like his car better."

i told her it would be kinda pointless since she's got an autotragic.

And, yeah, it is pretty sweet. We just celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary on the 13th, and, guess what our gifts to each other were.

Well, she really isn't into the modding thing. She wont let me touch the MPV, other than painting her 'brake thingies black 'cause they look nasty'. To her the car gets you from point a to b and back. This is true, but why not make it fun, right? :)

This will be her first time driving a car with a dedicated snow tire and I'm just curious to see her response since she has driven it with the summer performance tires.

He just clearly doesn't understand that all 3rd Gen Protege 2.0L FSDE's are the exact same in the US and Canada.

Just make sure you remove the little blue insert (you'll know it when you see it) from the from the fuel line. Technically it should stay with the stock fuel line but mine came out. That's what cause my big issue but I think I did have a little fuel leaking at the connection to the rail. I'd take everything apart and use a good thread sealant on all connections before doing the install.

Thanks for the tips man!!

On a side note this cold ass weather (for me) has brought out a significant vac leak at the idle bypass screw in the TB from playing with it tooooo much. Which was causing me to go lean a bit cruising when cold then good in the middle of the day and rich under full boost. Smooth as butter now with just a 1/4 turn.

magnumP5
11-18-2008, 01:47 PM

This screw allows air to bleed around the throttle plate when its closed to keep from bogging when load is put on the engine like from the a/c kicking in but there is a fine line between just right and a vac leak. The ecu corrects the idle adjustment after a short time so thats pointless.

OEM paint is much more expensive (but that is rediculous) and I think the least you can buy is a quart. Or they can use the cheap stuff and get it close for the whole car. I've had one of those cheap paint jobs and the problem is the prep and taping off on a cheap paint job is horrid.

This guy at a Mazdapalooza cut away his grille like below

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y13/cbrjeeper/IMG_9417.jpg

This is kind of something I was looking for with possibly a black mesh behind it, but not sure...was also thinking of just taking out all the honeycomb and smoothing the sides down...

I am just trying to find something to occupy my time...

shane02pro5
11-18-2008, 03:08 PM
I tried doing that with mine...cutting out all the honeycomb part. Not very easy to vice that thing and mill it out or cut it out at all with anything and not damage it. I ended up basically just cutting off the whole bottom part of the grill and then bolting my hacked up billet grill to it. I'm going to do something different soon with some black mesh and some sort of frame recessed and maybe putting the chromy "M" back in there.

Seriously? That's unfortunate. I totally agree the lip looks totally out of place being so far off from the lines of the rest of the car. And the sub box that takes the entire cargo area... besides being overkill it doesn't look that interesting. If you're going to make the car that impractical you should at least do something new or intriguing with the box. (yawn) Just my opinion...

So I've noticed that with the cold weather my car will have a stumble at idle until it's fully warmed up. It's acting almost as if it had a vacuum leak but once the car is fully warmed up everything is fine. No CEL yet but I imagine the cold weather is exposing a vacuum leak that wouldn't otherwise be there. This has happened three times over the last two days. Might be a vacuum leak but something I'm not willing to look for right now. Perhaps when I get my new IM and decide to replace my oil lines (again).

LOL, my idle gets worse as the tank level drops. If the light's on it's almost a certainty I'll throw a CEL. Part of the reason I never let the light come on :D Must have something to do with not having a pulsation damper and the Perrin fuel rail.

pulsation damper...do explain pls?
The ugly little whitish/yellow plastic thing that sits on the end of the fuel rail on the driver's side. When I installed the Perrin fuel rail it removed the pulsation damper. I believe the purpose of the damper is to damp (duh!) out oscillation in the fuel flow. Probably has something to do with stabilizing the idle and whatnot.

Seriously, do it yourself. If they endlinks aren't a problem, it'll take literally less than a half-hour. Since you plan on replacing them anyway if they don't come off you can just trash 'em by cutting them up and whatnot. Mine were seized at the swaybar but came off easily at the struts so I had to order new endlinks. Because of this I drove around for a while without any rear swaybar until the endlinks came in. Otherwise I would have been done in 30 minutes.

THE Phen
11-19-2008, 12:28 PM
Are they factory endlinks? I know the car was originally a Northern car so they could give you some resistance, but I was able to get mine off with as much rust as I have. But I guess what it comes down to with me is why pay extra money for someone to do work? If the endlinks aren't bad to begin with, I dont' know how you'll justify the warranty work.

mx-p5
11-19-2008, 12:38 PM
they are stock. And, i'm pretty sure my clicking and popping sounds under braking and cornering are the endlinks.

So, if that is the case, warranty work

plus, it was a northern car, so, undercarriage rust is FTL

Considering that they're on a COMPLETELY different chassis, I'm going to venture a guess of "no".

Depends on whose selling. You looking to buy another? Or sell yours?
both...:D so how much are mine worth? the diffusers have been cleaned, painted black, no leaks...the others look like this, and they're new!

I'm fairly sure the MS6/MS3 brakes work as an upgrade on the P5. Never heard about the suspension though.

I've been running without the second o2 sensor for awhile. You'll get two codes. P0140 and p0032 iirc

Got a hood on Friday to replace my hood which had begun to rust on the front edge. $95 bucks and in very decent shape for a color match hood. Installed it on Saturday. I love www.car-parts.com

Got a way over due oil change done today and they made me aware that I had cord showing on the inside shoulder of one of my tires. Fortunately I had new snows, Hankook W300 IceBears mounted on my spare rims on Wednesday. On they went today.

Cruised the web and found Goodyear G1-D3s in 205/50-16 size performance tires for $49/tire at TireRack. They're 2004 production, but my P5 gets enough miles that, that shouldn't be a problem. $243.40 for 4 delivered and I'll get a $50 rebate from Goodyear, woo hoo!

Next time you get pulled over, turn the music up. That way you actually have a soundtrack for getting a night stick up your @$$ lol. Then again, (and I know I'm likely jinxing myself here), but what do I know. I'm on a 5-0 streak for getting pulled over and not ticketed. And I have a feeling the majority of that 'luck' comes from simply being a decent person.

But again, what do I know?

uhhh.... all the time? Apparently you've never seen an accident before... Drunk driver hits someone.. getting a ticket for that. Someone rear ends someone.... yup ticket for that too.... someone driving recklessly, looses control and hits a guardrail.... apparently getting a ticket. Your not making any sense and don't seem to have much of the common sort.

evilmonkeyMSP
11-24-2008, 10:49 AM
so if there's an accident there shouldnt be any tickets issued? wtf? what, should the cop say "well, you got in an accident, thats punishment enough" ? Really? Really?!

aMaff
11-24-2008, 10:58 AM
thing is here, he already had the ticket, he had nothing to loose.

It's a good thing it's 10:00, so there's still hope, but that's the dumbest thing I've read all day. If the cop really wanted to be a dick about it, usually because the person he's talking to is being a dick about it, I'm sure he could find a ton of ways to make his (your, whatever) day even more miserable.

And to answer your question, it happens a lot. My 1st accident I got a ticket for improper lane change. Lady had been in my blind spot so long I forgot about her. Checked the mirror, signaled, then merged right into the side of her Chrysler Pacifica.

red95_240sx
11-24-2008, 03:28 PM
well it makes sense if someone is at fault, but key word is accident.

evilmonkeyMSP
11-24-2008, 03:29 PM
by driving irresponsibly YOU would be at fault...hence the ticket...I dont understand how you cant grasp this simple concept...oh wait...
