i dont like pillar pods, and i got the pod in a trade for detailing services
Original plan was to get the AFC at the same time i got the wideband, and that was the last mod i was gonna do to my p5, but ran into some money issues (quit my job w/o having a back up job already setup)

replace oil temp with boost. AF... eh, it's a tuning tool. Other than that it looks pretty. If you're using a stock ECU the AFRs are going to be what they are. If you're doing a tuneable option, then sure. And even if you're doing dyno tuning you don't need the gauge, just the sensor. It doesn't really seem like a worthwhile investment if you're not tuning the thing. And they're generally not cheap (not the good ones at least).
Unless you really want that blinky light....

I have 5 gauges - wideband in the steering column pod, oil pressure and oil temperature in the a-pillar pod and boost and voltmeter in the gauge surround. I plan on ditching or hiding elsewhere the voltmeter as it's not needed for everyday driving but it nice to know. I don't really know what I'd put in it's place though. Maybe trans temperaturen or EGT.

Wideband or A/f gauge?
I know the stock MSP tune sucks with the MSP ecu, so, what is recomended for a budget? I know with the stock MSP ECU, A/F is useless gauge cause i can't change the ratio.

My next EGT (1st priority) and Oil pressure and maybe Water temp in a din 3 pod.

You don't change the tune with an air-fuel monitoring gauge - you just watch it. A narrowband gauge is pretty much useless as it really only tells you is the mixture is "lean" or "rich". Under normal conditions, one of those would just oscillate back and forth between the two. A wideband is much more accurate and you can actually read numbers so it's much more usefull when tuning.

10-20-2008, 04:32 PM
Yeah thats what I figured. The thing probably just has a cold, normal, and hot setting. I've never seen it stay between long, even after cooling the motor down in the staging lines at the track it will go down some but when I start it up it almost instantly goes back up to the middle. But then again it is water and it does heat up quickly but I never see the guage at anything over than dead center after it warms up even though my oil will go up and down +/- 20 degrees

I agree and this is why I haven't bought an aftermarket water temperature gauge. It may be inaccurate but as long as it sits slightly below halfway at full operating temperature I know everything is still normal. Oil temperature on the other hand... Threw a system too lean CEL on my way home from work and my idle is all weird again. No vacuum leaks that I can fine (even the BOV is fine this time) so I don't know what's going on. I plan on checking the exhaust tomorrow but I suppose there could be something wrong with the intake manifold as well. I really need to get something to plug the intake so I can check the whole system at once. To make matters worse, my wastegate actuator is no longer holding vacuum so I'm now at risk of overboosting and blowing the motor.

i picked up this muffler from a buddy today and im curious if anyone knows if it would sound raspy with 2.25 custom piping from an exhaust shop. Its a magnaflow with 2.5 in/2.5 out with a 4 inch tip. not crazy about having a four inch tip but i got it for less than 40 bucks.

Aside from rust on the hangar, its in really good shape, especially for the price i got it for. anyone running a custom cat back from an exhaust shop?
Sliver5
10-23-2008, 04:58 PM
do it. Magnaflow is a really good company. You will be happy with it
and something to remember is that with exhausts, the bigger the muffler the deeper/quieter the sound is.

he probably removed the resonator. Keep a resinator in your exhaust lineup and it shouldn't be raspy

hmmm then it is possible that it may be raspy. If it is you can always add a resonator and that should take care of it

im assuming its cause of the header, because prior to making it a cat back he ran it just as an axleback, and it sounded fine. and he did have a resonator up until about a week aog

Okay, well I think I may have found my vacuum leak. It appears my catch can doesn't like to hold vacuum. It's kind of odd that it just decides to do that now. Either way, I bypassed the system and let the car idle for about three minutes and everything seemed okay. Only time will tell whether the CEL goes away or not.

1) the rust is pretty minor, and its just on the hanger(i live in MA,so rust is to be expected) 2) It was free,i'd rather do a cat back so i can switch it back at some point for inspections and such, but that would require saving some cash(not that thats a bad thing) 3) thanks for the honesty, because im seriously on the fence about this muffler.

]just finished installing the water temp adapter from prosport
Don'tmine the blue/white wires. i'll be hiding them with the black wire cover stuff. I just gotta get it back from my buddy later this weekend
I did just the cut and insert, but it added an inch to the upper radiator line, so, i had to cut about half inch off either sdie of the slide already so it would fit better with no pinch in the line.
It still has bends, as the adapter is quite long for our upper hose.
Also, Don't remove the hose from the car. water and radiator fluid spews out of the engine. Lesson learned

Took my girlfriend and Ol' Blue for an impromptu run through "The Loop" in the N. GA mountains. Hell of a fun time when I wasn't stuck behind people doing 15 mph. Surprised a bunch of ricers in mad turblowed 240s when I kept up w/ them for the length of Hwy 180. "OMG What's done to that thing!?" "It's stock... ish" "WTF!?" "well, for starters I don't have $15 tires...." At least 1 of the ijits nearly wiped out in a corner, I swear the retard was trying to drift the shit. I saw (and smelled) lingering tire smoke coming up on them and decided to lay back on 1 of the straights to let them have their fun. Really didn't want to get tangled up in it if 1 of them decided he wanted to go off roading...
Hwy 180's unique in that it's more car friendly than bike friendly. A lot of bikes get over to let 'spiritedly driven' cars by. It's REALLY tight, like 2nd gear tight for most of it, really narrow 2 lane black top. Think more autocross than road course.
The Loop (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=GA-60&daddr=GA-180%2FWolf+Pen+Gap+Rd+to:GA-19%2FGA-9+to:Suches,+GA&hl=en&geocode=FXpOEQIdFOz9-g%3BFbqVEgId4I7_-g%3BFUhfEAId5vL--g%3B&mra=ls&sll=34.693074,-83.95237&sspn=0.199575,0.30899&ie=UTF8&ll=34.708034,-83.943443&spn=0.199539,0.30899&t=h&z=12)

Yesterday on my way out of the neigborhood I had smoke billowing from under my dash so I immediately pulled over and cut it off, popped the hood smoke coming from near the firewall.
When I first got this car 6yrs ago I had an alarm and stereo put in at best buy (big mistake). First time ever I didn't do it myself! What a mess solder joints with a tiny piece of elec tape crisscrossing everwhere. Over time I cleaned it up but missed one for the grond which shorted to the power for my Haltech. Melted the wire about 12". Hooked back up to the stock ecu to limp home and get me to work in the morning.
No more spaghetti and thankfully my Haltech had a fuse on it and didn't burn up! Took me nearly all day to clean up the mess of wires!! Better than new thank god!

yep it should however you will get a ton more vibratiosn and engine humming or sounds whatever you want to call it due to the rear solid mount. Trust me I know! I've had the rear installed on my auto p5 and now my MSP. I will be removing the rear later on. Its just in their to help get the trans off the corss member!!! If I run across a set at the junk yard today ill pick up both and sell ya one, but I doubt that I will run across some.

Same here. If I can source a set, you'll get the spare.
I actually am getting 2 MSP lips. One from Daonly1around, already white for Callie's car(missing driver's side delete), then Sandspeed's Black Mica that comes with both deletes
I'll keep my eyes open.
What's a set cost new anyways?

What's Ambientlight?
I think he's talking about installing a LED that glows softly on the instrument panel/shifter area. The rx-8 comes with it too I think? My 3 actually has one just under the AC controls that illuminates the shifter area. It's a nice little touch. :)

What's Ambientlight?
That what i mean with th word "ambientlight" is called ambience light, but in German it is called "Ambientebeleuchtung".
The ambiance lighting in the interior mirror housing contributes to greater safety and comfort: Through the glare-free lighting on two red LEDs can be the driver in the dark interior guided safely and all the important functions quickly find and confusion safely operate.

Finally got my a## downstairs to rotate the tyres..and the left rear looks really low! Pull out the pressure gauge---13psi!!! Pull out the pump, run it back up to 32...losing pressure almost as fast as it goes in...yup....nail in the tyre!!!
Pull out the "donut"---it's flat too!!!! Doh! Pump that up (luckily it holds pressure) & off to Firestone for a flat fix.....& now it's starting to rain. Driving w/ a donut in the rain--oh joy..
