*slaps ya silly* Ok now that that is done, go take those keys back and give your wife the Xterra keys! lol
I know..I know.. But it didn't make sense for her to drive a gas sucking SUV to work every day when the P5 was just sitting there. Since I have a work truck the car was only being driven on the weekends.
I did tell her that if she trashes my baby I will kick her out!

Last night I loaded my floor jack and lug nut wrench in the hatch to swap my new/used wheel/tires on my lunch break. Well, only one came in, the other three are still showing in transit. I should have them tomorrow.

to be honest I like the white on white setup you have right now. Have you thought about adding a red pin stripe to the wheels kinda like a time attack edition? Looks pretty good IMO
fishdonotbounce
08-20-2008, 10:30 PM
I like the theme too but it's gotten old if you know what I mean. I was hoping to kind of go with a white on bronze theme since my new fogs will have deep orange overlays. I've thought about doing the lip up, but I'm just way too lazy and honestly it wouldn't work since its a recessed lip.
Drove home from work and watched some major lightning over the mountains.

Another rainy day free pass for my P5 to chill in the garage while I terrorize the city in the crazy truck. Already took out a sprinkler head or 2 & scared the coworker into striping his shorts demonstrating the pure boundarylessness of the truck. Other coworkers tried a prank on it yesterday. They put one of those big thick ass balloons over the tailpipe where it'll blow up when starting the car then make huge explosion when it pops. Didn't work, I saw it & let it get blown up a good bit then just punched the gas until the thing exploded super loud in the parking garage. LOL, it was louder than shit, louder than gunfire, made my ears ring. Laughed my ass of & called them & told them if they hurried they could beat the ambulance there to pick up the lady that was innocently walking by that fell out when it blew. (rlaugh) Asked them to do it everytime I drive the truck. They can't do it to the car because of the 4" diameter tip on the muffler, the truck's is only about 2.5.......fun stuff.

Stopped at the auto store on my way home and bought some oil and a filter for the upcoming oil change in addition to some wheel cleaner.
After dinner, I cleaned and mounted my new (to me anyway) 2006 MX-5 wheels. Once mounted I grabbed my co-pilot (read: son) and we went for a drive around the block including some speed bumps to check for any 'out of place' sounds and didn't notice one!
Here are some teaser pics until I can get the car washed this weekend.

True but have to be rewired. MSP have one light for both high and low beams while the P5 is wired for two lights. one high and one low beam.

I now live in Texas, and this area is very close to the border. Every time I ride into town the police look at whose driving it. there different bulb sizes, u need an h4 bulb for the MSP and the p5 low beam is an h7 so it wont fit, hence the re wiring part
BinoMP5
08-22-2008, 06:14 PM
would it work if i just change the bulb? the company i got it from sends replacement bulbs... i could ask for a H4 instead of a H7
or order a set of H4 HIDs, the headlight wire connects to the ballast
justanothermp5
08-22-2008, 06:21 PM
umm im not sure if the h4 bulbs use the same connectors as the h7 bulbs,
u could try it, im actually wondering the same thing, my brother left his stock sedan headlights over here when he went to college so i should be able to order h4 replacements for my hids and have them work...hopefully
u try first lol
BinoMP5

08-22-2008, 06:27 PM
ahhh damit lol ok i guess i could try, buy some cheap ass bulbs and see if they plug in and if they work in the headlight right?
but what would we do with our highbeams? i never use mine because i have hids so i guess we could just take the bulb off?
BinoMP5
08-22-2008, 06:34 PM
same here... but the sedan headlights dont have the extra slot for high beams..

Tre, I would at least paint the upper part of the lip body color. I think it'd make the colors flow better. That and I would have left the badges or gone with a 323F badge (I have one :D). Other than that it looks great. Now was that really all done in one day (wink)
EDIT: By the way, today I finally completely removed the exhaust manifold and turbo and switched the turbo over to the MAM manifold. I also got around to removing my crappy stock tapped oil pan and I switched the stock sparkplug wires back in. In preparation for my new oil pan I also installed a new threaded oil return fitting on the turbo. I spent the last hour or so hacking up the wiring loom for the O2 sensors so I can re-route the primary O2 sensor connection to the other side of the block. I'm probably going to do a little wire tucking tomorrow as well just to clean things out
Agenda for tomorrow: finish wiring up gauges, finish O2 sensor wire relocation, initial wire tuck around water neck
If I get my oil pan in tomorrow that will also be going in and then I'll be making a trip to see ol' ForceFed about some exhaust mani studs. If all goes well I could actually have the car up and running Sunday. More than likely it's going to be another week though...

okay so i just tryed them, and as u can see by me not posting a how to
they didnt work lol
heres why:
*physically did the h7 bulb fit? yes
*did the HID H7 bulb fit? NO, the hid bulb has nowhere to connect to because the plastic thing around the actual bulb is to small
*does the sedan headlight work with the OEM bulb? YES if you choose not to use your hids then they can fit, but you will not have any high beams, i do not know what the H4 HID bulb looks like so i cant say anything on that
*did they look sick? YES THEY DID lol mine are sandblasted to hell so these looked alot better
*ask tre flipp what he did with his because i see in his pics that he has sedan headlights
had to take off my front bumper, thats why it took so long

I got my set of wheels for 300 (no tires) and I had to drive up to NJ to get them. I would say anywhere from 300-500 or so. Too bad you don't live near OH, there's one guy selling a set for 150 but you have to pick them up.
Edit: nevermind, I just realized you were talking about the P5 wheels. You can probably get a few hundred for them. I would keep them as backup wheels in case something happens to one of the MSP wheels (they are more at risk to getting bent than your stockers)

I'm curious as to how you know as well. It's not as if there's an idiot light that pops on and says your valve seals are gone.
BTW, today I finished the wiring. OMG, re-routing the primary O2 sensor wire sucked so much. I had to do so much wire extending and soldering it wasn't even funny. I hope to God everything still works right but I guess I'll figure that out when I get everything put back together. Wiring is done, all that is left now is to wait for the oil pan and exhaust mani studs. After I get those I can install them and then make new oil feed and return lines and I should be good to go. Hopefully next weekend...

Nice man. You should be ok for a good month after all that's done with your luck. lol.
I gotta ask a quick question though. Ever since I installed my headunit with the install kit, I can't help but notice that the only thing that's holding it in place is the fact that it's wedged in there. When I go over bumps, the thing rattles like no other. I've held it in place when going over a couple of bumps and it sounds like heaven. Is there an easy fix to have it mount securely so it doesn't move? I was thinking of fabricating some sort of bracket since there's a screw coming out of the back of the head unit so if there's no easier fix, I'll try that tomorrow or sometime next week and let you guys know.

Nice man. You should be ok for a good month after all that's done with your luck. lol.
Haha, month?! Well after all this is done I get to finally install my new FMIC that has been sitting around for about a month now. After that I should be done for a while. I'm debating whether I want to start an engine build this winter or if I should take a break from performance for a while and work on things like new wheels, etc...

Well I started replacing my mounts at 11 AM today after a quick trip to NAPA. With my new tools (yay!) I easily changed out the front and passenger side mounts. AWR front SU side. During this whole dealio, I used duplicolor Metalcast to tint the new fogs orange. Since it is a transparent paint, it worked absolutely perfectly. I will be using this stuff to tint anything from now on seeing as they have it in like 6 colors including smoke.
Anyway, it was time to tackle the big one (lol). By this I mean the rear mount. After hours of struggling with the dumbest fucking wiring setup in the world blocking my way (seriously what the hell is that stupid plastic bracket the holds the big bundle of wires doing mounted to the firewall?) I finally got to the mount. I get my breaker bar and go to town on the middle bolt. I finally get it after a quick wrestle and then it gets stuck about a third of the way out. So I use a hammer and screwdriver in the weirdest way to finally get it out and then I go to tackle those three bolts. This is where I was stopped dead in my tracks. Even with the swivel socket, extensions, and breaker bar, there was no way in hell that I was able to pry those suckers loose. I tried to loosen em a little with the electric impact wrench I bought but it wasnt budging no way no how. After hours of struggling with it, I had no choice but to shut it down and put it back together. I had to have my friend help me get the damn bolt thru the middle of the stock mounts again which sucked but needless to say, I couldn't get the job done. I'll have to find someone with an air impact wrench with a LOT of torque and replace it some other time.
So the fogs look great and from the quick drive home (like and 1/8th of a mile) I could tell that it felt soooooo much better. I'm getting a bit of vibration but the car feels very solid now and I can't wait to put the rear one on as well now. So in all, I spent 10 hours working on the car and even though I only got the front and side mounts done as well as the fogs, I made it pretty simple to replace the rear when the air tool opportuinity comes along.
I'm going to get the new rims tomorrow so I'm very excited for that.
I'd call the day a success overall and it feels so good to chill at home now.

After all this I just have to ask; did you remove the intake manifold to do this or did you try to work your way around it (I couldn't tell by your description)? If you remove the IM you have a clear shot of that MM.

Ah, I'm willing to be that would have made the job 10x easier. Even though removing the IM is kind of annoying you would have saved yourself a lot of problems. I think I've had the IM off on my car 4 times now and I've removed another froma friends car. It takes about an hour to remove mine because of the stupid STB but I could probably remove one from a stock car in 30 minutes or so now. Just experience and knowing where everything is. It really is only like 10 bolts/nuts, the EGR and the throttle cable.

would the fact that it is a 6.5" wide rim offset the offset? lol
yes, of course it would. I still think it would stick out too far. The stock wheel is a 6" wheel with a +50 offset.
The widest wheel I was able to fit on the P5 is a 16x7 +43. It only rubs OCCASIONALLY with 215/45s (the RS2 Z212s run pretty wide, with a skinnier tire it'd be fine) on it. A 7" wheel with a +43 offset sticks out 46mm from the hub face. Your 15x6.5 with a +29 offset will stick out 53.5mm from the hub-face. You'd be sticking out almost a full centimeter further (7.5mm, whatever) than mine that has very minimal rubbing.
Doing your homework ftw:

front sway bar? You can keep it. If you can, use the stock front / MSP rear bar, it gives the car a great balance. Also, I've replaced the front sway bar on a protege, and I don't ever want to do so again. And FWIW, it was an experienced Autocrosser that was going back from the MSP front bar to the stocker because it made the thing way too understeery. It was a 5 hour job with 2 people who know their way around a protege, and a 48" crow-bar.....

The only thing that kind of sucks about that is depending how busy your "business" becomes it may become both a hassle and a burden to continue swapping out headlights on your car. Hmmm got pissed off today since the girl hasn't emailed me back about the header so I did a reverse email search on her. Yay for the internet. Got her full name, facebook, myspace, pic and the whole shbang. Let's hope I don't have to get the po-po involved in this.
Am I going a little bit overboard? Yes. Would I hate being out of $130? Yes. They both cancel each other out.
Overboard? Hell no...get your header or your get your money back.

I ordered the header from a new member here on the forums who had proper signage on the pics. Spent about 3 hours searching and found a website that does reverse email search. Sure it was 15 bucks but now I don't see any way that I won't get my money back. If I don't get a response or the header by Friday, a paypal dispute will be filed. If that doesn't get resolved, I will call Milwaukee police and see what I can do.

Exhaust mani studs came in today, yay! That means this weekend is the big weekend where everything goes back together and I hope to God that everything works!
Oh yeah, I also finally snagged some Catz yellow foglights. Even though they are driving lights I'm going to see how they work and if I don't like 'em I'll just sell 'em for the same price I bought them.

I just figured I'd throw it out there.

You pick up some ponies in the higher-RPM range where the stock manifold has issues but the low-end loss in torque isn't worth it in N/A applications in my opinion. Hell, I have a turbo and there was a noticeable loss in low-end torque so how do you think that would translate into an N/A car? I'd stick with a VTCS-less stock manifold because you maintain power where it's most used and gain a little up top from increased flow.

Personally I would have stayed away from the Skunk2 coilovers (coil sleeves) - I've only heard bad things about them. I know a lot of turbo people have had issues with the Nology wires and IMO they're just not worth the money ($200 for sparkplug wires!). Also, why the MSP headlights? I feel like everyone with a P5 is switching over the MSP headlights. I actually like the separate hi/lows. Definitely let us know about the F/I-C. I only know of one Protege guy who's tried and the last time I checked he still didn't have things completely worked out.

LOL, I've mainly just heard the Skunk2 coil sleeves are noisy. As for sparkplug wires you really aren't going to see a difference. I had the Magnecors on for over two years and there really wasn't a difference. I've since swapped back to stock wires but the car hasn't been running. I know for sure if there was a difference when I get everything put back together. As for the IM, I'm sure I'm going to get torn apart on that one. Speaking from experience these cars have very similar hp/tq curves N/A and turbo. I know N/A peak tq is around 3500 RPM and peak power is around 6000 RPM. Every time I've dyno'd with the turbo I make peak tq and power in those same places so I can only assume the 626 IM will have similar effects for both a N/A and turbo car. However, because turbo cars are a little more succeptable to intake modifications I would say the gain up top would be greater and the loss down low not quite as bad. It really just makes the curves more "peaky".

fish-buy a highflow cat from magnaflow and go to your local muffler shop and ask them to make you a midpipe with the hfc... prolly cheaper... imo

Spent the whole day repainting the interior pieces. I scrapped the white and went with a metallic black. Looks sick with the couple of coats of clear.
Also painted the heat shield and intake. Heat shield came out better than the intake even though I did almost no prep work on the heat shield since the new header will be put on in a few weeks here. Pics of everything tomorrow.

Just got home from work - added another layer of sludge to the exterior driving home. My poor ride has not been washed since I got to TX :( A wash doesn't look good this week (or the next 10 days for that matter): http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/USTX0413_f.html It's no longer 22V, a coworker saw it in the parking garage today and swore it was GREEN (shakes head in despair).

I'm on the same fence (clinks beer). My p5 is now strictly a DD on crap-ass roads with no curves in a 300 mile radius ... Plus I have no time to clean my garage - much less have any fun in it. But what the Hell, it's paid off ... and I'm deep in my parts hoard, may as well try to stay the course - and you should too (I can't afford to replace my premium parts with your premium powder-coated parts so don't tempt me lol).

Lets see..where do I start...I have had this car in progress for nearly 14 months..I have never driven it, its ready for paint and has been for 5 weeks and now...I have lost my access to the paint booth I was going to use.
It took me months to find a booth someone would rent me to spray the car...Now I cant get it done.
It may take months again to find another...And I refuse to Put the engine back in until this car is painted and ready to roll.
Now Fall is upon us and I will likely not even get to toy around in this car I have worked soo hard on....Not to mention I have way too much money wrapped up in something I cant even enjoy, nor does it look like I can enjoy for some time to come.
It might be easier..and wiser to simply sell it off....Piece by piece and recoup as much as I can from it.

Wow today was another long day. Went to pick n pull for the half off labor day special to look for steelies and lo and behold there sits a 3rd gen 626 with its beautiful steel rims. Pop those suckers off, get myself a wheelbarrow and 51 dollars later, home we go (a little high on the price cause the tires were technically paid for as well). I get home, give them a good scrubbing and wash, use a green scotch brite, and paint them with wheel paint. One can later, they look good as new. Oh, I also test fit them and they fit perfectly. Just clear of the calipers.
Now what I'm not sure is the size of the rims. I measured from edge to edge and it looks like 15 but the tires are 165/55 R14? are they 14's and I just measure wrong? Also, what size winter tire should I need for them.
Also gave her a thorough cleaning inside and out and got her ready for the meet tomorrow.
