i think he said it didn't come with everything he needed...
and double sided tape will not hold that sucker on for long... just put two screws on the side and two screws underneath you should be fine
InFlames
06-21-2008, 09:56 AM
yep i missed that. I was under the impression that it came with everything you needed. 808 is correct. two screws on each side and two underneath with the addition of double sided tape should do the trick.
o.g.sk8er
06-21-2008, 10:12 AM
the lip only comes with 2 really small screws. lol
I used different (bigger) screws, and no tape was provided.
magnumP5
06-21-2008, 10:17 AM
Ok so finding some screws isn't hard - just have to drill some holes in the lip. What did you all screw into? Just curious because the only things holding the stock inner fender liners are those cheap little plactic ones.
808MP5
06-21-2008, 10:22 AM
some regular screws will work... no need to drill holes in the lip... i used some screws that had a point in them... with a little bit of pressure they should go right in. screw the lip directly to the bumper... two on the sides above the plastic hole thingy (the thing that's going into the big hole). the two underneath can go right in the middle of the vent thingys from underneath.
o.g.sk8er
06-21-2008, 10:30 AM
yep...
i used 2 screws on each side of the lip, but I did drill a very small hole just to make it easier. lol when screwing them in, no need for he-man strength, just tight enough till they stop and it will be fine.
then, double sided tape...thats all I used. no problems.

Alright, sounds good, thanks guys. Just saw someone else P5 with a two-toned front lip; I'll probably do the same even though I don't have the CF lip. I'm just not sure I want to get the lower part painted because if I bump or scrape anything it's already messed up. I have half a mind to cut up my current wind splitter and put it on the lip to protect it a little. If I do that then I'd probably paint the whole lip. Still debating here...

I swapped my P5 Front Sway bar for an MSP unit today....
......and Let me tell you..I would almost rather pull the engine than to do this job right here again.
EVERYTHING must come loose from the front suspension to get it In/Out.
Lower Frame Crossmember, Lateral Engine Crossmember, Rack..you name it..it needs to come off or be loosened.
I cant see how you could possibbly change one of these with the engine in.
EvAR!
On a Scale of 1-10....(1 the easiest) I would rank this as the following.
Engine Removed...7 out of 10
Engine Installed...High Teens out of 10
Comparison of the two bars...Not much to the eye..but they are different.
Threw in New OEM bushings while I was at it and Hit them with a spot of grease on the inside to keep them quiet for a while.
http://www.msprotege.com/members/ForceFed/Project%20P5/Sway%20Bar%20Swap%20001.jpg
This is what happens when End links don't cooperate.
http://www.msprotege.com/members/ForceFed/Project%20P5/Sway%20Bar%20Swap%20002.jpg
All of this must come loose and move to allowthe sway to be removed.
How you could do this with the engine still in the car is beyond me.

Anyways, managed to save most of the oil and got it switched around and am good to go now with some Total oil and Mobile 1 filter for the v6 626

Not really. I do it all the time going through florida. I mean, your mileage is worse, sure, but on a long trip the time you save is worth it.
As a side note, a buddy of mine drove a friend's roadrunner (old school yo!). He said if you floored it on the interstate, you could literally watch the needle drop. Now THAT is a sinking feeling.

They have been rotated every 6mos and alignment has been done within a week after rotation.
Of course last Oct. Firestone couldn't get the PS rear 'toe' in spec. Now that tire is on the front (rotated in April) and I noticed that it is wearing unevenly. The entire inside of the tread is almost smooth and even with the inner sidewall.
Last alignment (April) Firestone had everything to factory spec. Once I get new tires I will get the alignment done again.

Only thing I have gone there for is the lifetime alignment. At my visit for the second alignment they tried to get me to authorize some recommend service and I said no. $76 + tax to change spark plugs! (jerkit)
I have to put some blame on me as the cashier pointed out to me that the one tire was out of spec. His excuse was that the tech could not get both rear wheels in spec at the same time. I should have insisted that I wasn't leaving until it was done properly. And when I do go back for the next alignment, I will be talking to a manager to see if there is anything that can be done for my situation.
Glad to hear that they refunded you for the shitty work they performed.

Haha nah not even close. You read it wrong or I said it wrong lol
He has a msp which he is currently building to handle a gt28rs with upgraded t04e wheel.
He used to have a 240sx with the t25 turbo, which is also the same as the stock msp gt2554r. You just need a adapter plate for the inlet and outlet. I am buying the t25 off of him to use with my setup (for the wagon) since he doesn't need it. It has about 50k on it and if the turbo goes bad, I can get a rebuild kit for like 100 for it. Or he can get it which I can get from him lol

i think its the tires man, i tried to get mine aligned at a firestone last yeartoo, i had the ast's on all four wheels and they said they couldnt align them all the way and that what they did was the best they could do, the car pulled to the left HARD!
then 3 months later, a strip of rubber from the middle of the passenger front tire came off and got lodged in my brakes
had to take the brakes apart to get it out and had to get two new front tires
the people at firestone said that it looked like was drifting with the tires (WTF?)
got the 2 new tires installed at firestone and what did they do? scratch the shit ot of my rims, (painted stockers)
they even managed to put some gouges in there in the middle of the wheel
the outside edge i can understand, but the middle??? so now my front two rims look like dick
im never dealing with them again, even if its free

Ok guys so I just spent 4 hours trying to loosen a bolt and I succesfully accomplished nothing. Does anyone know how much a shop would charge to change out the front mount? also, How much would a muffler shop charge to take off my old muffler and put on the Mazda sport muffler? The two bolts are rusted to shit and I can't even get the rust off enough to get a wrench on it. Thanks for the input guys.
$20 to swap axle backs when I changed my exhaust. Take it to an exhaust shop...

I attempted to remove my stock exhaust from mine at 50K miles, bolts were rusted and required being cutoff. So, i suggest mufflershop. Also, did you try using PB Blaster?

I'm at 80k and they PB blaster was like trying to use a super soaker to put out a house fire. How long did it take them to cut them off and put new ones in? How much did it cost?

You got a PM, but I'll post here for everyone else too
I took the car to my local mechanic, not an exhaust shop, and they charged me $60 to remove stock and put in the Magnaflow Catback
They had to cut the bolts with a torch to get em off and put new bolts in

Sounds like about as much fun as I had trying to get my fog light off to replace a bulb. About 6 soakings of PB blaster and 2-3 hours of trying to crank on it. Finally got enough leverage and the damn nut moved.
As for today, she just sat in the rain...
It's been raining a lot here. Next 4 days it suppose to rain more.
Look at them rusty rotors!!! FTW!!!

Took my car to the local Meineke. I was there a total of 10 minutes (they cut them off with a torch, then tied the pipes to the frame with a hanger) and it cost me $10. After a very loud ride home, I installed the axle back and new gasket in minutes.

Dance Daddy just solved the problem. $10 to have em cut off the old, then install the new one yourself!

Thank you...thank you. haha
I should also add to call the shop first. I called Midas first and 1) they couldn't do it for a couple of hours, 2) they wanted $40 to just remove the old one.
I called Meineke and the guy said to come down and they could get me right on a lift and get me out the door.
Your experiences with local shops/chains could vary depending on who is working there.

I think maff is right....it has been so long since I did mine. I bought mine at a a local dealer and IIRC it was around $10.
That said I would also recommend buying one. Better to spend a few bucks and be prepared than take it off to find the oe crumbling apart (like mine did).

thanks for the help guys. i'm gonna go ahead and have them take the axleback off saturday and i'll buy the gasket tomorrow. I bought the exhaust off of a forum member so it didn't come with a new gasket. $5 for a gasket isn't bad though so I'm not worried.
As far as the mount goes, I didn't get the bolt that goes through the middle of the front mount with my mounts since I bought it off a fellow forum member so I would have to reuse my old bolt. That's why I didn't just cut it off yesterday. I'll have to look into where I can get one of those bolts and nuts some over the weekend. I'm not in as much of a hurry to get my front mount on as I am in getting my exhaust and struts put in. Tokico Blues just came in yesterday. It was like Christmas up until I couldn't replace the exhaust or motor mount. It was kinda like getting that shiny red bike and then having it get run over by a garbage truck the same day.

Alright question for you guys
I have the MP3 ECU now and I just made a hard pull through the RPM's but as I hit 4500K, rpm's just stopped and almost dropped.
Is this due to the ECU being tuned to not have VTCS? Did I just get kicked in the groin again by the VTCS system??

Call off the Hardy Boys, I've solved my own "Case of the Evil Clunk!" I finally got the rear of the P5 up in the air today to see if I could track down the source of the "new and improved" rear-end clunk that developed a few weeks ago.
It turns out the right-side sway-bar bushing is all smashed up and coming out of its bracket! So, short of getting the sway-bar relocation brackets, what's my best bet for new sway bar bushings? It's got the AWR 21mm bar.
