I'm stuck in STS cause I replaced my front seats and have a "shorty" header. I thought about using my stock rims for a while but they have my winter allseasons already on em so it didn't make sense to buy 2 sets of tires. I had been running BFG's for a good while, 3 years and ~1.5 seasons but just got a new set of Dunlop star specs and damn what a difference just have to keep em cool.
ah nice, I've heard nothing but good things abt the star specs. Sounds like they're similar to the RE-01R, only problem is they only make a srsly retarded 15" size (195/55 or something dumb like that). Now get on the suspension and you'll be set ;)

cut one of the pipes of my intake so that I could try to run the pipe I bought down behind the fog. Too much of a hassle without a buddy in the end and it took way too long to cut this pipe by hand. I ended up with a shorter intake and a newly installed Weapon R Coolant Catch Can. No leaks so far :::crosses fingers::: Pictures tomorrow, I'm about to pass the hell out.

Same one I used. :D Turns out the rubbing I was encountering was the tire just barely kissing the inside of the inner fender with the combo I am running now. (Which I only encountered with 4 of us in the car ... coming back with a full load from Costco lol). I've got front OEM P5 bump stops in the rear - which works great on the MSP, but you need about another 1/4" of bump stop on the P5 due to the more narrow rear fender wells. I had RX8 wheels - will you be running a 5mm spacer in the rear? 215/35 or 40/ 18's?
BTW ... this shot was all the motivation I needed to grab a set from eBay. You have chosen wisely ...

I am going to run RX8 Wheels as well....And I rolled the rears pretty damn good.
I am running 215.35/18's as well.
Why would I neeed to run a spacer in the rear..I had not planned on it?
Is there something I am missing?
Fill me in here?

Depends. What will you be using for struts? You will have no issues with clearance in the front; But if you are using an OEM style strut/spring combo, the RX8 wheels may be too close for comfort in the back and you'll need to bring them out a bit. With a 5mm spacer, they'll still fit under the fender without sticking out ... however, there's no getting around the fact that they are an 8" wide wheel which measures 9" from lip to lip.

gasket was replaced not too long ago so didnt replace it this time. but it was cake work!! all the bolts are 10 mm so no need to keep messing around with sizes. i did it in my robe this morning! the longest part was waiting for the paint to dry. i probably will do it again cause while putting it back on i not all the paint was dry and there is a lil running over by the cam area! will post pics on soon looks sweet!!!

So, what have I done to my car today? Well, she got me out of a near miss accident today. Some lady not paying attention ran a red light and made a left turn right in front of me on the way to work. I'm glad I had a guy I work with witness it from the other side of the intersection, as he confirmed I was in the right. You know after these things your memory goes a little hazy... Anyway, I had the green going straight, and she was coming the opposite way taking a left, basically cutting right in front of me. Well, I slammed on the brakes and (again, thanks to adrenaline) locked them. At that point, some of that hard earned autox instinct finally kicked in and I backed off the brakes and threw the car into a slide to avoid her. I got lucky as hell that I didn't have a Buick in my driver's side door. Talk about my early morning adrenaline shot, ugh.

When I just lowered my car on teins, I would never scrap and didn't have to worry about anything and just drove regular.
i have to be careful now though since I have the DGM lip. When I measured it, It was like almost 4 inches off the ground lol. But, It really isn't to bad to maneuver around, just go at angles and you will be fine.

I will be keeping my eyes on the oil to make sure it's not leaking or burning it since its an aged engine.

That is from scraping...I was delivering pizzas on an unfamiliar road about two months ago, and it was very dark...as I went over a set of railroad tracks at about fifteen to twenty MPH, I slammed into the ground on the other side, cause it was a HUGE drop-off...I went back the next day and scraped going EXTREMELY slow...lets just say that I don't go that way anymore...I just figured you were asking about the bar though...

not really. The stock manifold is kinda junk, so it's better than nothing.
But yeah, other than that it's pointless :p
So, Wagner shorty header is good idea or no? I had the OBX but it didn't workout so well on the highway for the wife. After putting stock manifold back on, i REALLY regret selling the OBX.
Does the Wagner offer any bump at all? I've also got an Injen SRI, Magnaflow catback, and in the mail is an MP3 ECU

I have the wagner and I think its a good piece and gave respectable gains considering what it is. Just keep an eye on it. On some of the parts the welds weren't spectacular and they've been known to cause exhaust leaks. Plus keeping all the stock emissions equipment keeps my car legal and me in STS instead of FSP.

I friggen loved the OBX, just didn't like the frequency of the drone at highway speeds. It wasn't too loud, just the tone it hit went straight through my wife's skull and kept punching her brain giving her a bad headache
So, Wagner will provide better breathing with not much noise? Good good
Maybe I'll try to find someone with a failed precat and punch it out and swap my good one in when emissions come around.
ANybody got a failed precat??
And Andrew, the one I am picking up already cracked but is being rewelded before I get it.
Is it just poor design that they crack? Or stress to it? I have an AWR front 70 installed and rear 70 waiting to be installed. I won't be putting hte header in till the rear mount is in, cause, well, i think my stock is shot and I don't want the header to take the hit

Went and bought General Trim Adhesive from the local supermarket ($10 a bottle holy crap!) and adhered the front seat covers to the seats. For those that don't know, they are P5 seat covers and not generic so they fit perfect. But the seats look much cleaner now. Except for a couple of wrinkles on the driver side since I am not the Mexican dude from West Coast Customs, the seats look great. lol.

As for that, man what a damn dick. Those covers get cloudy from sun exposure, rain and all that crap and it is very easy not to notice it. The douche bag could have given you a warning at least. Must have been having a bad day or something but jeez $232 and $105 for the tint? That's just robbery.

hey i got a random question, how do i get the rear hatch trim/plastic piece off?
i saw what Bala said about a mod and it reminded me that i looked at it one day and i had no idea how to get it off
because i wanted to take off my latch cover and paint it flat black instead of getting a DG CF cover for it, but i couldnt get to it because of that piece
any input would be great!!

You have to take the inner hatch trim off. There are a couple bolts you can access from the outside and a very well hidden screw holding the left side of the piece on, only accessible from the inside.

Next week will be a different story with my cutout, slightly upped boost and 450lbs less in the car without 2 passengers! 60-120 he had about maybe 2 cars but I was shocked I held on as long as I did!

You have to take the inner hatch trim off. There are a couple bolts you can access from the outside and a very well hidden screw holding the left side of the piece on, only accessible from the inside.
Would you have any pointers on how to take the inner trim off?

ah that's a fun job. From memory, you'll need to take off the transverse brace, remove all the bolts (3 or 4 per side), then back down the 2 nuts that hold the subframe on to the 2 'spikes' on the sides of the chassis. Once you have those as loose as they'll get without coming off, with the aid of a sizeable prybar, you can pry on the subframe and work the sway bar out.
Oh, and you have to undo the 2 brackets (1 bolt & 1 nut IIRC).
Yeah... took us about 4.5 hours with 2 of us working, give or take.

I just got done with taking a drill with a steel brush attachment to as much of the engine of the car as possible without tearing up the various hoses and wires that are there. I also sanded off the "mazda" and "16 valve" or whatever it is. also took out eat bolt individually and took the steel brush to them.
I also installed the new intake which is what seems like powdercoated red. The intake is very very nice and I can't really say one bad thing about it. Perfect fitment with no rubbing anywhere. I mean it does come with the basic shitty filter but I already had the K&N so it wasn't a problem. I am tired as hell now though so I'm going to bed.
Pics to come tomorrow or sometime soon.

+1 on any tips on how to get the inner hatch trim off
on the sedans its super easy, it took my brother literally 10 minutes to take it off and put it back on,
im going to take a hard look at it tomorrow morning
Just bought a rear bumper gaurd, not sure which car it's going on yet, new little black caps to cover my bolts at the windshield, and an OEM foglight switch to control my gauges backlights instead of the rocker switch in the blank.
Anybody got the wiring diagram of the OEM switch/plug? I'd much appreciate it!!

Put up a for sale thread following the FS rules, in the FS section. This isn't the right place.
We'll look out for it though.

My old drivers side nozzle wasn't spraying very well. Often wouldn't even reach the windshield. Sucked during winter.
Tried to get the dealership to fix it or something while it was still under warranty but they just cleaned it. Worked for about a week. If I would have know how easy and cheap it is to replace, I would have done it a long time ago.

wait a month or so...it gets even better! Mine was just "a little" better at first. But after a month or so it really started to come alive. Low end and mid range will feels much snappier after awhile.

Guys,
Let me know if the MP3 ecu affects your gas mileage much. (for better or worse)
My pro5 is my daily driver and I would like more power when needed, but don't want to suck more gas when I don't.

06-19-2008, 03:33 PM
One thing is you'll need to start running high octane due to the advanced timing!
mx-p5
06-19-2008, 03:36 PM
Yup, already got a tank full of 93, i know i only need 91, but that's all the station had.
As to mileage, I will report after a tank or 2 and the ECU learns.
Also, just downloaded the PDF on how to remove VTCS so I will hopefully try to get to that this weekend, since the MP3 doesn't have VTCS in it's intake mani
Also, Rockin, your P5 an auto? If so, No go on the MP3 ECU, it's for 5 speeds only
Rockin03mp5
06-19-2008, 03:40 PM
Lets see.
$.3 more per gallon than now X 12 gallons per fill = $3.6 more per tank.
X 6 fills per month = an extra $21.6 bucks per month in just gas.
Already not looking good for me.
mx-p5
06-19-2008, 03:41 PM
i will say i think i noticed a jump in mileage just by running 93 octane in this tank. made it 100 miles from half to quarter.
That was with stock ecu

You want to install a MSP ecu? It's only good if you have a turbo.
If you are making a MSP into an N/A car and removing turbo, you can install pro5 ecu.
Not sure what you're asking

oops just realized that you did mp3 not msp. im the dope. (boom02) so what you did was take a protege ecu and install it in the p5. this is suppose to increase the power a bit on a p5!?!? what kinda increase we talkin here? or would it be better just to chip a p5 ecu?
evilmonkeyMSP

Its an ECU from a MP3 protege, not just a regular protege. The ecu andvances timing and you gain around 10hp.

not quite that simple, you also need the no VTCS MP3 ECU, or to at least do a clean removal on your VTCS.
The biggest gain is that it REALLY smooths out the powerband :)

My lights on the transmission console aren't working. I noticed them on one time, then when I hit a bump, they turned off. Something might be loose. Anyone know how to take the cover off and get to the lights? I don't want to break anything.
