I don't understand ppl buy stuff and decide not to use it and then sell it... I don't understand why i can't do the same... Doesn't make sense. Anyhow contacted Atoine on this matter.

How does that matter. What if I got them for someone for the ppl in teampro5 and they don't need them. What if I have five cars. Your to quick to judge. The plate holders are universal.

You should be fishing for "fish" and not trouble.

I've read the rules and it says nothing about me not being able to sell these items. Yes it is a privilage but all u wanna do is push ur wieght around. I dont ecen qualify for av/amm status. So just suck on ur fish. Im goung to our it in ebay. So forget it already. And for the ppl that did wanna get one from me blame the stinking fish for not making it possible.

I'll give you haters a multiple choice quiz on the exact weight added...

a) 3.5 lbs
b) 3.5 lbs
c) 3.5 lbs
d) 3.5 lbs

;)

Large flat panels that vibrate become "sound boards" as they begin to resonate at their natural resonant frequency. Since the hood is the LARGEST and flattest surface in your entire car (well my car anyway) it would be of great value to apply a viscoelastic damping material like I've done. What this does is reduces the air borne noise propagated by the hood surface through the windshield and into your face. Since 1/4" glass is good for about 12 dB at the frequencies that your engine produces noise at, it would behove you to add another 6 dB reduction in sound with what I've done.

Also, the process is not quite done. I'm going to add a mass-loaded barrier-absorber next to kill more noise. It will block heat, but that's not really a problem for me.

In the end, I could just put two more windshields on my car, but I thought this would be more feasible. ;)

Installed Kartboy shift bushings. Not sure what I think of them just yet. I thought it might tighten up the side to side movement of the shifter but now it feels even looser. The shifter does "click" into gear better, but I got spoiled on the Miata shifters so I'll see how it goes. My short shifter should get here soon so I'll see how it ends up.

I got spoiled on the Miata shifters

I know the feeling. With the TWM SS and bushings, it's close. Nothing can replicate the perfect position though :( Proper race car stuff there. Anyway, the bushings help the forward / back movements more than side to side, that's why you're getting more positive engagement.

mx-p5
03-25-2008, 05:50 PM
Your Pro5 is never going to replicate the Miata shifter. The short shifter is close, but, it's way below your knee, so, you actually reach further. The Miata is nearly perfect because you sit lower, and the steeringwheel is much closer to the shifter. And, the Miata's stock shifter is already short.

I like my TWM setup, but, it doesn't compare to the Miata

I drove it... Realized there is a small vacuum leak again coming from somewhere below the dash. Argh, I pulled all that crap out once before and pressure tested the whole system and everything was great. Even double zip-tied every connection but sure enough I can hear the little whistling again. I guess next time I'll just wrap all the connections in teflon tape as well...

Please don't remind me how great my Miata was... I'll always regret selling it

When I get the shift rod in I'll compare it to the stocker and I'll try my hand at retrofitting the P5 "extension" onto the short shift rod. I think it'll work and it'll bring the height back up to stock which I don't mind since it's right at my knee. I think it's retarded to reach below your knee for the shift knob.

EGR bolts

Try this if you haven't already... It's a little easier sometimes than a ratchet in tight places where you only have room for one hand. Use one open end wrench as leverage on the other one.

Looks like my (used) AWR coilovers have an internal problem... need to have a piece filed and rewelded. Only on the rears as far as I can tell though, fronts haven't been giving me trouble.

I could be running a very mutt-ish setup this weekend at autox... AWRs with 450# springs on the front, JICs with probably... 200# springs on the rear, no sway bars... lol. I did the rear first when I installed mine, and didn't have to unbolt anything...just make sure you can get in a good position to really force those hangers off/on. I suggest going to the gym for some upper body workouts a week or two in advance :D

Anyways, got all of em on. I got down under the car and turns out the guys that put my exhaust on didn't attach the pass. side exhaust hanger at the cat. IT WAS A BEAST!! I had to use the jack to lift the cat to get it to fit, but, I think I realize why now. I've got a constant buzzing. So, when I get back home, i gotta put it back up on the jacks and try to bend down the brackets up front. The bushings weren't all that hard to put on, as long as you force them on at an angle. I've got pics of the hose clamp holding my old hangers in place, and, pics of the new zipties holding it in place now. I'll post em up come Monday

it read below the L. so i freak out cuz i just had the oil changed about 700 miles ago or so. i figure, well maybe its reading low because its on the driveway.

so i pull it in to the garage to the front part of the car is more level.

pull the dipstick again, and this time its reading above the L line. i turn the car off. and check the oil again, and its sitting at halfway.

what gives? does the engine need to be at a certain temp to check the oil? is it a big deal that it read L after pulling the dipstick right after starting it up?

you never check engine oil with it running and on a level surface

what have i done to my p5 today? i just took some more of the motor apart to take it out!! gotta replace it. the whole bottom end went out and now im trying to find a mazdaspeed protege engine to replace it with. ive talked to a powertrain expert and he seems to think and according to his records the motor should bolt right in. matches the p5 tranny (minus the lsd unfortunately) but atleast it would be faster!!!

I know this has been said several times but the P5 motor and MSP motors are the same. Only diff. is the MSP has a turbo.

Talk to Ken over at http://www.protegegarage.com You can get a 2.0 for the P5 for $999 or go forged for a couple thousand and really build it for some booooost.

Transported tires for the MPV.

I discovered tonight that while 4 205/50/16 tires fit nicely across the back of the P5, a set of 4 225/60/16's are too big to fit behind the back seats.
I had to lay down the seats, then I got 3 tires laying down flat, one in on an angle. Not bad.

Alright, pic time from my weekend of fun

First off, pic request of my hose clamp holding the old exhaust hangers in place

Next up is the new corksport hangers doing their thing

Also, the rattling I was experiencing was due to the drop brackets that came with the TWM. The cat visible in the third pic was vibrating against the heatshield. Took a hammer to it to bend it up just enough to be out of the way. No more vibes

Then we have a tailend shot of the new mazda6 wiper, which made its way over to my wife's car right after this pic was taken. Also, the exhaust sits tighter up under the bumper now

Here we have my new previously polished, now brushed daveb rings! If anyone can tell me how to get rid of the streaks in the plastic on the gauge face, I'd appreciate it!! windex, simple green, nothing I've used that isn't too abrassive will get it off.

Also, last pic is of the Celica Markers now installed

Tylor, gauges looks great, but i must ask how did the streaks happen? Are they like scrapes? You can try PlastX from Meguiar's. Royal Satin has a abrassive effect. I would try that too, but first try the PlastX.

If you had Royal Satin, i would try it first then the PlastX for the finish.

mx-p5

the streaks were there when I bought the car. They REALLY REALLY detract from the gauge rings!! I am almost tempted to just order a new plastic cover

It's on the outisde. It almost looks like they tried to wipe it off with acetone or something ridiculous

I'll try the plastix though first

EDIT: Oh yeah, the P5 has also burned through about a half-qt or so of oil just in the trip to and from OH this past weekend. I don't get it, even the exhaust has that oil-burning smell to it again after it was fine for so long... Why is my car falling apart?!

Tell me about it, I know the feeling!

A clogged injector could lean out an individual cylinder I imagine.
Unless you have a bung in each exhaust manifold runner, the AFR reading is only an aggregate (total).

So how did you eventually get rid of P0171 (I was reading your post from another thread)?

That is true. Over the past month I have run a complete bottle of Seafoam through the injectors (not all at once) so I would hope they would be clean. I suppose when I have the time and it isn't raining I'll go out there and check them out. Is there any way to tell if an injector is clogged? Aside from that I was told to check the coilpacks and spark plugs. I do know that recently my coilpacks have been shocking me if I touch them while the car is running. Could this be an indication that they are going bad?

Took off my "JDM" liscense plate angle bracket since it was bent to shit from people hitting it when parallel parking at school. Used a vice to bend the top of the plate and just screwed it to the bumper so it follows the indent of the lower grill.

So I pulled the sparkplugs to inspect them, the wires and the coils based on a suggestion one of th MSP guys gave me (regarding P0171) and everything looked good. Put everything back together nice and tightly and poof - no CEL anymore! Didn't realize removing the sparkplugs and disconnecting the wires could clear a CEL; unless there were the cause that is. Drove around a little to see if it would come back on immediately but not yet. I'll have to give it a while.

My tires for the new-to-me wheels came in today. Went to get them mounted then found my april fools joke from the tireshoppe.com... 1 of the beads on one of the tires was more... pointy... than round. That's definitely a 1st for me, never seen that. It looks like something got messed up during manufacturing. Anyway, I called them up and in about 2 minutes they had ordered a replacement to be drop shipped to me from Hankook's Tennessee warehouse. Yay great customer service! Didn't really do anything to the car lastnight, but, I did play around with some projectors I pick'd up. They are halogen foglight projectors off an 06 Tiburon. Buddy got a bodykit and was gonna thrwo em away, so i grabbed em. I'll post some comparison pics to the stock fogs we have. I'm thinking I wanna put em on my car!!

All pics were taken with me just holding the projector, so, take that into account on the aiming of it

Well, that ends my photosession. Whatcha'll think? Got potential? With a PIAA bulb inside there, as opposed to stock sylvania, they'll be hella brighter. I REALLY can't wait to get my retrofitted projectors now!!!

After showing the wife the comparison pics of how "hot spotted" our stock headlights are with HID's compared to even a halogen projector, she's contemplating letting me spend the money to do a projector retrofit in her headlights as well!

TreFlip999
04-02-2008, 11:33 AM

mx-p5
04-02-2008, 11:43 AM
Yeah, headlights are HID. And, I couldn't get over how bright those halogen fogs are. Seriously!! I'm still trying to figure how to mount em on the car. They outperform our stock foglights by a brazillion times over!!

Gotta figure something out. Gotta!!
