like i was thinking about getting the kartboy combo for the last 2 years......mine cost me $128 and an hour+ of time. re-routing the wire behind the dashboard costs just your 1+ hour ot time at most......

I have mine just go right beneath the silver trim piece. I didn't do any cutting of the trim piece or anything, so it rubbed off a bit of the thick insulation over the wire. I have a replacement cord I just haven't gotten around to it yet. You could in theory tap off of the 12v outlet's power and ground wires without cutting any wires since they can both be unplugged from behind the outlet. I'm running mine off the power wire I have coming through the firewall for my head unit (IIRC, I haven't worked on that wiring in a long time).
Edit: actually, without even doing any wiring you could do it. Just have it go between the two vents up top, down along the right side of the head unit, and then come out and plug right into the 12v outlet. That's how I did it with my mom's Altima because I didn't want to have to do any wiring.

man, you still have 3 gallons left......another 70+ miles before you should really get worried.......
-R
Yeah, I was surprised when the pump turned off. Reason I stopped on my commute home was my warning light came on, on my way into work. In the interim I made a 35 mile journey (round trip) to my daughters school and back to work.
Any ideas on when the light is supposed to come on? I would think at 11 or so gallons on a 14.5 gallon tank is early.

my idiot light goes on, then off a couple miles later, for about 5 or 10 miles it stays off, then goes on for good. At that point I can squeeze in 12 gal max.

Survived the VICS recall "event" (44k miles)since was idling into driveway when happened. Got into garage, fished out the single screw from cyl 3. Had only made 6-8 taps at low rpm before motor was shut off. No CEL. No closed gap on plug. 2 butterflies in bottom of intake that wallowed over remaining loose screws. Only 1 screw actually out, all others loose. Pulled apart, red loctited new screws in on VICS, removed VTCS, put on new int gasket on head, cleaned egr, did coolant buypass on TB, put it all back & running better than ever today. Close call, lucky not on freeway when it came off!

Yikes. You hadn't taken it to the dealership yet? Or are you outside the recall VIN range (eekdance) ?

I did it when I was in the area doing the EGR cleaning and.. didn't notice anything. Sounds eerily familiar to most of the mods I've done to this car though.
I've noticed my suspension mods and low profile tires letting me feel every little pavement irregularity and jarring me over bridge seams, and I've heard my exhaust note change with each exhaust modification, but to me the car doesn't really feel any faster. It just sounds nicer as it climbs revs :)

Yikes. You hadn't taken it to the dealership yet? Or are you outside the recall VIN range (eekdance) ? Nope, I refuse to let non-caring asshats touch my car. The closest dealer to me sucks infinite ass & mazda roadside assistance only would only take it to nearest dealer for free which woulda been that one. I am in the recall range & had been planning to do the workaround my self way before actual recall & because the dealer won't remove VTCS while there or clean the egr for free. The car just bumped up my schedule.

You think the coolant bypass on the TB makes a diff? Not any more than anyone else that has done it. I live in Texas so not aware of any reason I need hot water running through the TB. Maybe if I lived somewhere that actually had real cold weather & maybe if it wasn't garaged all the time. And I was there while intake (top half) was off & I happened to have the right sized sleeve & 2 small hose clamps laying around. Not expecting any noticeable performance gain. Any reasons not to have done it?

What have I done to my P5 today?
Cried like a fuggin baby....
We had a crazy storm last night.....tornadoes, flash flood and oh yes hail. When I finally got a chance to get a look.....boo hoo hoo.....67 hail hits over the hood and roof. I almost threw up! My insurance deductible is crazy high so I will foot the bill for this one. Isn't mother nature a bitch sometimes? Cry this to a hurricane victim I guess.....see what their response is. Still....I have done so many mods over the past few weeks and it hurts. FUCK!!!!! Oh well it's just a car right?.......so says my wife. I did salvage one of the Hell Boogers....it was 3.5" diameter. Imagine what that does to metal.

Installed black alteeza's. Like the look better than the stock red and much better than the chrome alteeza's...IMO. As long as it is not snowing (?) or raining I will get some pics up tonight when I get home.
Still looking for turn signal bulbs to replace the factory orange...yuck. I want to keep it legit, so they must light amber. I know of the Silverstars and the chrome tinted (have those on the front of my Vue) but last weekend I came across some APC 1157 bulbs....black tinted but unfortunately the lit red. I guess I could use those and have red signals??? Let me know what you all think.

What happened?
I did the install, doubled up on the non foulers (the ones I bought were only about an inch deep), reset the ecu and everything. I start up the car and within 30 seconds the CEL light came on. I took it out for a drive and it feels like the car is running rich up to 5000 rpm and then it feels like a turbo kicks in. After the engine is warm the idle bounces from ~600 rpm up to 1200 rpm. So I have to figure out what the deal is there. Now, totally unrelated, my battery light is on so I have to figure out if my battery is going bad or I need to mess with the alternator.

*chuckles* Give me a bit of time/money, and it'll happen eventually.
I'll probably start with the "free" air intake mod. I plan on cutting out that part of the grill under the hood to increase air flow to the intake.
If I get bold, maybe I'll make a scoop of some sort to further aid/create the ram effect. Still not comfortable with the idea of plugging the drain holes in the snorkel though (that I read about.)

ordered the summer rubber today - gets installed on monday. woot!! can't wait; the winters are getting awful squishy in this warm weather. hopefully in a couple weeks the new suspension will go in, and then it will be just minor tweaking and enhancements for summer.
question for everyone, and no flaming please:
i know it's more common these days for a girl to mod her car, but it's still a stereotype that as soon as someone sees a modded car - slightly or excessively - it's automatically assumed to be owned by a guy. i've gotten this comment more than once and to be honest, it bugs me.
would it be cheesy/rice/etc to put the following on my car? it would be in brushed silver (like the rest of my *very* few decals on the car), and be placed in the bottom 'lip' of the rear bumper:

ordered the summer rubber today - gets installed on monday. woot!! can't wait; the winters are getting awful squishy in this warm weather. hopefully in a couple weeks the new suspension will go in, and then it will be just minor tweaking and enhancements for summer.
question for everyone, and no flaming please:
i know it's more common these days for a girl to mod her car, but it's still a stereotype that as soon as someone sees a modded car - slightly or excessively - it's automatically assumed to be owned by a guy. i've gotten this comment more than once and to be honest, it bugs me.

any tuning plans?
Not at the immediate moment, other than maybe cutting the grill. (I really don't want to take out the funnelling altspace...)
Talkin' to a buddy of mine tonight (who's a car FREAK), he suggested starting with the suspension, instead of anything major on the engine or wheels. He had a couple of reasons of why, but at the moment, I can't recall... The suspension he was showing me on a site lowers the front about 1.4", and the back about 1.2". (Or was that vice versa?)

I drove it!
I didn't :(
I spent the entire afternoon/evening/night cleaning the living room, dining room, and hallway at my apartment at school because my roommate had me locked out of the room with a girl in there and my other roommates weren't around.
No keys to drive car + no laptop to do homework = extreme boredom for hours.
at least it's all ultra clean though.

My wife usually picks up my daughter from school so I don't know about staring and finger pointing from the other kids, but my wife has mentioned that she gets alot more looks from guys when she drives it. Maybe I should take her set of keys away.:)
My son and daughter love the car. They ask to take it wherever we go so our Vue has gone from everyday hauler to a dust collector in the garage!

Funny, I got the opposite when I first got my P5. A few people at school (high school at the time) said "Hey, is that your mom's car or something?". I guess it was because one day I pulled in with my big truck, and the next day it was with a little sport wagon.
My mom definitely wouldn't ever drive a car like mine. I pushed her to get a Mazda6 to replace her 03 Altima and she said it felt like it had no power at all. She's driven my car a few times when I've had her car (05 Altima 3.5se) to detail it, but she said it was way too loud and slow :(

Installed a short shifter (ebay j-spec one) and kartboy brushings. I LOVE it, feels tight, percise, and much shorter throws. I drove around some windy roads for a while, it was a lot of fun!
Installation was very smooth, all because of the info I've gathered on this awesome board. Bought a clip retaining tool, and tin snips ($20 total), which made the install a hell of alot easier.

I'm still planning on hacking my ipod dock to mold it into one of the cupholders on my car, but I won't have time to think about it more until summer. It would be sweet if I could make something that had the slot for the universal dock adapters that Apple has been pushing with all the new accessories, as then if it were mass-produced people could use it with any iPod in their protege.

As soon as I get off work here...I'm headed home to clean up the front tires/wheels, and then put them back on the front of the P5. Then I'll jack up the back, take off the rears...clean the brakes...and paint the rear calipers yellow.
I also called around a few places today to get quotes on tinting the windows. Wasn't quite as bad as I expected...and I was happy to find out that you can go 50% on even the driver/front passenger windows. :) For some reason, I thought tinting on the driver/front passenger windows wasn't legal here in Ohio...

Cleaned up the front tires best I could (anyone have any ideas on how to get very stubborn stains off of the stock wheels? Brake dust of course. Didn't want to run the risk of getting brake cleaner on the rubber...) Put the front tires back on...man those yellow calipers look sharp peekin' through with the blue P5.
Took the rear tires off, cleaned the calipers...masked EVERYTHING off (including pads this time...heheheheh), and got 4 coats of yellow paint and 1 coat of clear coat on the calipers. I want at least one more coat of clear on there, if not 2...then I'll be done with that little project.

Take pics of the wheel stains and post in the Appearance threads. If it's not too deep of a stain, you should be able to remove it with a pre-wax cleaner that has some light abrasiveness to it.

Had never noticed that on the Kumho's. Wouldn't it be more fun if the tire was rated for snow and you could leave 'ecsta' imprints as you drove down the road?
extremely fun. you could always like drive on sand with them or something for a similar effect though. :)

sorry for huge pics but i wanted to show detail.
installed Powerslot rotors and hawk hps pads. the rotors are actually Brembo!
the last pic shows my old and new pads. (got 47,000 miles from stock original pads). and yes my rim has a big scratch which i will sand and paint soon.

i bought them both as Powerslot from buybrakes.com for $160 free shipping. when i received them they were in Powerslot boxes but inside on the rotor it dont say Powerslot it only says Brembo which i like ALOT as i was thinking about brembo also. if you live near woodbridge we have meets every tuesday night around 7pm and you can see them. if you interested ill give you the info.

the reason i asked is because powerslot, as far as i know, doesn't put dimples on their rotors.
not sure i know where woodbridge is. I'm 15 min outside philly, next to cherry hill.

they are actrually pro stop by powerslot.

i got the dimpled and slotted to increase cooling as my stock ones warped before i even changed my original rotors. once in a while i go nutz on the parkway racing rice burners LOL. but im afraid now that i have these ill kill myself. so ill try to keep my stress low and open the windows when a rice burner pisses me off.

I finally painted my rear rotors, 3 weeks or so after doing the front ones. I also half-installed my new front endlinks. They are bolted to the struts but not the sway bar because I have to saw or drill off what remains of the old endlinks.
I also applied more undercoating
You can kinda see the calipers in this pic.

Had that on my first P5, but not on this one... not sure which I preferred, but then again, not a lot goes into the hatch that I don't personally put in.
Suspension goes on tomorrow, weather permitting (yay!), but can't get an alignment until next week so the car will likely drive like shit until then. Waiting on the damn lug nuts to come into the dealer - shop didn't have any that fit the 'speed rims, so they're sitting at the shop with the new rubber on them and I'm still driving around on the fugly steelies and winters... ugh

the header coating that looked so beautiful but was gone within a day. :'( it specifically said it was good for exhaust manifolds, bah.
http://www.msprotege.com/members/KanseiZM/mods/kanseizm_header.jpg
blurry pic but it shows how terrible the fitment on my ractive header is. It sits way too far back, rubbing up against my oil pan and making my exhaust stick out way too much.
http://www.msprotege.com/members/KanseiZM/mods/kanseizm_headerbad.jpg
and here's an idea I was tossing around when I had my headlights open to get the glass shards out. I took the clear reflector off in front of the turn signal bulb, it looked pretty cool but I kinda like the white reflector there.

Ion sport springs, Tokico illuminas, and RB rear sway bar all went on this afternoon. I was scared the car would drive like crap without an alignment, but so far, it seems pretty good.
I have the illuminas set on 3, front and rear, so I'll try that out a bit and play with the various settings to see what I like. Thus far though, the ass-end of the car feels MUCH tighter with the new sway bar.
Yes, I know - pics! They will come when the summers go on (likely Mon or Tues next week); then it will be photoshoot time! Maybe they will have cleaned the streets up enough by then I can put the grills on too without fear of them chipping to hell from all the winter gravel...
