Went to change the oil and after two pumps on the handle my 2 ton floor jack broke. (doh) Can't really complain as I got it new with jack stands for $5! So I made a trip to Sears and used my gift cards to pick up a 3 ton floor jack (now I can lift the MPV too) and a 5 piece offset box end wrench set.

That said the oil is now changed.

Drove her for the first time since Friday... I hurt my left knee pretty badly running (don't know how!) and I spent all day Friday barely being able to walk let alone use a clutch. I decided it'd be best to not agrivate it anymore so I decided not to drive all weekend. Feels better now and the morning commute went by just fine. Just gotta wait until running tonight... LOL, I really miss my P5 when I have to ride shotgun in my g/f's '01 LX 1.6L.

Sweet! I just got a 22mm Progress rear sway. Just waiting on my AWR adjustable endlinks for front and back to install. Got nearly 130k on my p5- bought new in 2002. Got tired of pot hold damage and decided to go with 195 55 15 snow tires for this season. Also got lifetime alignment. Got the thule box for skis, camping, etc earlier this year, thule bike rack for family bike trips last year. Unfoturunately, paint is abused, recent front end collision and decided to go aftermarket. Im afraid to put anymore $ into this car. May have to go out and get another one with lower mileage to replace this one.

Oh, OK. I went to one of the spray wand ones that apparently recycles the water (didn't know at the time). Lots of suds came out but the car was still filthy at the end of it. I guess the ads of a $1 car wash were just too good to be true.

Yeah, the water they recycle is typically "hard" and has a lot of mineral deposits...You have to use the wand to wet and rinse, and a bucket/washmitt combination to actually wash the car..Then you have to dry the car to prevent very bad water spots...Well, that's my process...

i believe you can drive on it, however dont take any hard corners.

btw, its going to be hard to find that exact nut at lowes/ace/home depot. you want a certain grade of metal (8 i think). i say go oem and just get a replacement endlink. chances are you damaged the endlink trying to get it off (i know i think i did)

i went to every supply store and couldnt find the right threads for the endlink anywhere. some were to thick, some to thin. it was a real bitch. i ended up using one that kinda fit, but i know the thread pattern is off.

amsgator
01-01-2008, 01:16 PM
so the threading is impossible to find? i dont really want to buy a new endlink, already spending too much for struts and springs. do i need to tie the endlink to something while its disconnected so it doesnt move around and rotate or will the nut on the bottom keep it still

NCZ13
01-01-2008, 03:56 PM
im not exactly sure if you can drive on it... someone else will have to clarify. but i believe i read somewhere its driveable as long as you don take any hard corners.

yeah i hada really hard time trying to find the right threading. it was such a pain the ass. i didnt even end up finding the right one...

you can drive with the sway bar disconnected, it just will handle differently. i would remove the endlink though. it may move around and mar the threads.

Took my car in for an engine and transmission oil change. Shifting feels so much nicer at the moment, although I know it will return to "normal" in a few thousand KM. As I was leaving the dealer, which is actually cheaper for oil changes than my local garage or the quick change places) the service manager ran out and stopped me. Told me to call up and complain about a rough idle and they will replace the EGR under warrenty as long as I do it before I hit 100,000 km.

New windshields are great. I remember how nice it was when I got a new one on my old car after a rock came off a dumptruck on the other side of the highway. I couldn't believe how rough the old one was till I got a new one. Of course, since it costs a few hundred dollars to get a new one it isn't something I would go out of my way to do.

Any news yet ? So far it sounds like the butterfly screw. I had it myself and it sounds all too familiar. Did you check out the spark plug again after you tried to drive it again ? My guess is the electrode is all bent up again. If you have the stock exhaust manifold still on you can take the upper part off and you most likely will find the tiny pieces of the screw on the screen before the first cat.

Good Luck man. How many miles have you got ? Did you check out to see if yours was in the recall ? Maybe you'll get lucky.....

Thats a great idea. But i lack the proper tools and equipment to install the motor myself. Although $1600 would probably get what i need to do the swap myself. I have no room nor a garage to perform the job. And lets not forget i don't have the proper education/knowledge to do it myself. Sure the protege5.ugly.net but that's a little dry. Cool right? So this a.m. went to leave for work, started car, all good, turned lights on &...........the damn chrg light comes on. Needless to say with it being dark & 28 degrees outside, the car stayed right there where it was, swapped stuff over to truck & drove it. Bummer, 170.00 for new alternator. The fact that I have NOT just recently installed my lightened pullies on the lame alt, priceless. Now I can start with fresh alt with Brach pulley. It just so happens that I pulled the CP STB out of the attic to do the cc relocate so it'll clear soooooooooooo, I'll pull the oem stb move the cc out of the way & have good access to pull the alt out top. How fucking convenient huh? Coulda been much worse, I coulda been cross the damn state & it happen but it was nice enough to happen in the garage.

It sounded like a tiny piece of metal was pingin around in the cylindar. It started that noise like 5 seconds later. I am thinking maybe whatever it is got wedged or jammed in somewhere.

Have you still got Warranty left or have you looked into the recall yet ? It'd be nice for you if the recall was there for ya. Save you a bit of a raping anyway.

When mine went, it totally made the pinging sound. I had read the other posts about what it would do and how you would just "know" when it happened. I tell ya what, as soon as mine did it I "knew". Only thing with mine vs yours, as soon as it pinged, it went away. I regapped the plug and it ran like a champ. It concrens me a bit that yours is still running that badly. There isn't much room for anything to be left in there.......

Did the Medieval wp,ps & alt pullies. Replaced alt since it went out the other day. At least it did it before I bothered with the pullies. Nice 170.00 lump squeezed out for the alt. Oh well, at least it went out while in my garage. Impact kicked ass on the alt, craftsman 2 jaw puller kicked ass on the ps(had to use 3 different bolts shorter each time to pull the pulley back onto shaft & wp was no problem at all. Didn't have to bake the ps pulley to get it to go on, just some antiseize & a thick washer then pulled it on up in place with the bolts until flush. All lined up nice. Also pulled out the cp racing stb to check fit & see about relocating the cc down a bit. I think the battery tiedown is where the problem is gonna be doin the stb. Looks all beefy, want it on the car instead of garage ornament. Got some pics but the pc with camera dock is trippin so I'll post them later when I have time to deal with that.

So how does it feel with all the pullies installed? Do you have the crank pulley?Feels good that they all went on with no issues. Haven't put all the shit back that was undone to get alt off the car. Still futzin around with how the cp stb might fit & what issues that'll bring. Fixin to go out & finish it all up & do the test run. Not sure what I'll be able to tell until the drive cycle is complete and ecu acclimates. Also cleaned & regapped plugs the other day before the alt went out so that should figure into things a micro bit. Gap was up to about .047 or so. All else looked fine-all ashy colored, no carboned out look, no melted nothing, no burnt ring around the outside like usually happens with non long reach plugs used to get. I will post back up about how it rolls with some mid install pics later after I switch my camera dock to another PC while I fix the one it was hooked up to. Beauty to have a fleet. This is why I roll with 4 desktops, 2 laptops & spares in the closet. Computer can only inconvenience me, I control the their existence. Oh, no Brach crank pulley. I have the UR UDP already.

There are nipples on the bottom?? Here's how I have mine hooked up. Nipple on top-middle going to fuel rail, nipple near throttle body going to the purge solenoid, big nipple for the brake booster, and the nipple on the passenger side of the IM going to my Microtech. You could use it for your cruise control or cap it. Or maybe a boost gauge etc. I can't remember if there was anything on the underside.

While I was out there poking around I figured I'd start her up. Mmm... loud and lots of vibrations. Very sensual. Is it spring yet?

Ah, forgot all about the purge solenoid. That definitely helps though. It's weird, the IM I have has two nipples almost right next to each other pointing downward. Hey hey now...Ill race you any day (burnout)

Let's put em on the track!!

Also, just to let everyone know, my car is back to normal. Well, as normal as anything I own is.

What happened was, somehow, at some point, somewhere, something made its way inside the motor. Don't know how, even the mechanic is stumped. He pulled it apart and found nothing in the cylinders and no marks or scratches on the block. But, the number 4 spark plug is another story. I have it here, but, I don't have my camera on me tonight. It's been beat to hell!! Whatever was in the motor slammed the sparkplug closed, so, she was firing on only3 cylinders!

So, now that it's back, I'm probably going to cut up the SRI I just put in, cause it runs down dang near a CAI almost at the bottom of the engine bay. I'm gonna run it up closer to the headlight. Also, short shifter should be going in this weekend as well as the tribute washer nozzles.

So, in recap, TWM SS and tribute nozzels go on this weekend, and the motor is good to go!!

LOL, what check valve - I pretty much got a bare 626 IM. So far I've been able to identify: brake booster source, purge solenoid source, source on top of IM for boost gauge, BPV, etc. but then there are two extra nipples on the rear passenger side about 1" apart that are pointing straight downward. Those are the only things I don't know what to do with. What else uses the IM for a vacuum source?

Bump-started it after my wife (who was, admittedly waiting for me to get done talking to a classmate) turned off the car and left it sitting with the lights on for 5-10 minutes. It seems odd that that little time would have killed the battery, but all it would do was click the relay, no starter action at all.

Fortunately, the parking lot had a really steep driveway out of it, so I just pushed the car around in a circle until it was pointed down hill, got in, let it roll 5 ft and released the clutch. It started right up, I drove it around for a while, and haven't had any trouble starting it again, since.

I may go get the battery/alternator tested anyway, though.

I had my parking lights on with the engine off for less than an hour at a meet, and my car almost didn't start. I figured it was the stock battery saying "replace me!"

Tylor

That is great to hear! If you haven't cut the pipe already you could perform the 'atx installation' like so....(all you need to do is relocate the coolant bottle...does require a slight bend of the bracket)

Just installed the TWM SS and poly bushings. Holy cow is this thing tight! There is no guessing if you put it in gear! I love it!

Also put in the Tribute nozzels as well. I couldn't wait till this weekend.

As to the intake, I would bend it up, but, I'm going to have a problem with the mount bar sticking out straight uplike that. I don't know. I'll have to check it out and see.

No worries concerning the mount bar. The hood will close with no interference. If you did go this route you could always cut that piece off instead of some piping? Your call.

I got to get the Tribute nozzles as well.

yep big differnce coming from the crappy 4.5mm belkin (think thats the name.. it starts witha B I do know that much) that napa sells. Also the fact that the wires were shot in less then 15k on them and causing multiple misfire in bank one doesnt help.

Also the old 4.5mm wires literally fell apart when I took them out! The insolator on the bottom of the plug boot came off in the head. That was fun tryign to fish those damn things out.

no, the plate is just part of the pulley. Not even sure what it is for, some UDP's don't even have that plate in the back. My guess is it is in case the belt falls off or brakes it is just a guard

They are usually held on with 3 screws to the back of the pulley. Some evidentally came with that in the wrong position & people's cars wouldn't run. Always good to pay attention to detail when doing these things & make sure all is correct or rinse lather repeat sets in.

I just raced in a snow RallyX yesterday and ir ran great. Plus there were know screwes or anything, it is just fixed to the pulley. As you can see all you have to do is line it up with the peg on the crank and it is aligned.

They all have it, and its adjustable, its for timing and if the missing tooth on the back plate isn't in the right spot your car wont start. I installed it right out of the box and my timing was off, I had to adjust the back plate so my car would even run, all I was asking was if they fixed their problem or if it was probably just random, but I see yours worked right out of the box. What difference do you feel as far as drive anad performance with UDP?It puts back a little low end lost from switching from oem exh to a header plus the accessories are driven a bit slower. My AC works fine, the temp is no different from wp being slower, pwr steering same & alt is pushing 14 volts/lights at night just fine. Maybe all that shit'll just last a bit longer since they're gettin a little break from the rpms. Have had no problems because of it for years.

i would say that's a pretty accurate description. you will probably have to get your alternator belt tightened once you get the UDP on too. mine (as well as a few other people's) belts squealed when the UDP was installed

29k ... 2002 my wife doesn't let me drive to far... (whip)

From the office and home... and I tend to just work from home or be out of town... so that doesn't work either

I got kids so we take her car most of the time... not mine (lol2)

Changed my wipers, added fluids...
