A friend of mine had his mountain bike on his Yakima roof rack on the D.C. Beltway once. He was in the left lane, doing 60-70-ish, when the front wheel of the bike flew out of the wheel holder. He pulled over 5 lanes to the right shoulder to look around and see what happened to his wheel, and see if it caused any carnage.

He hit the hazard lights, got out and walked to the back of the car in time to see the wheel roll up the shoulder and hit the back bumper of his car, then fall at his feet, undamaged!

Best guess is it slip-streamed in behind the car as he changed lanes, otherwise I have no idea how that could have happened.

hahaha these are both amazing stories but the other one has video :)

What are the chances of that happening? I wounder what their reaction was to see that tire roll into their shop where they were the ones that did the work.

haha that is ridiculous. It reminds me of the Rolex Cup race IIRC where the car loses a wheel and it does an amazing thing... lemme see if I can find the clip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hxdpit1I6NM

It was the only tire shop in Fort Pierre, SD so chances were pretty slim. I helped him look for it for a couple hours, he didn't find it till the next day when he went to have it worked on, and make them pay for it.

Probably still illegal in some way. Does urine have a neutral pH level? Don't wanna ruin any clear coats or anything.

it'll wear off some after a couple of months. Make sure you get the rear done or at least re-inforced (you can do rear inserts w/o completely removing it, which makes it WAY easier) or you'll end out prematurely blowing out your rear. And yes, that sounds like a personal problem.

Nothing special. I am just getting tons of dings and dents fixed and painting it stock color again. Didn't want to worry about the engine bay, doors, etc etc. I was debating on painting the hood as well.

I am painting my door pillars black mica as well as the plastic parts on the bottom of windows that seem to fade so quickly. Most people just have electrical tape covering the pillars, but I have hard plastic.

I just got back from Sears Hardware buying a Craftsman 580lbs torque Impact wrench and deep drive sockets for $200. It's not a mod to go on the car, but it certainly is for the car. It's like a Lego set when were we kids, building the set is the fun part.

Claim that with a lighter wheel and tire package you get better gas mileage.
Or make a big deal about it when it's time to change the rubber.

"I need new tires anyway, nows the time for new rims if I'm gonna get them."

These are the tactics i used.

I've washed my car once all summer, and that was months ago, before the watering restrictions. And that last line is you wrote is the kind of mentality that gets us into the predicament we're in. If we're short on water, is having a clean car REALLY that important? Hmmmm, do I want to drink, or do I want to wash my car? CLEAN CAR all the way baby! (jerkit)

o snap. dont wash ur car then. didnt know it was that bad ><

yep, that's it. It's not to the point yet that we're *noticing* anything on a daily basis (besides outside water use restrictions), like we've still got drinking water and everything, but it could get bad. Restaurants are having 'sales' on bottled water so they don't use water from the system, etc. So, a few folks are trying to chip in.

Chesapeake Bay is saltwater, and drinking/sewer water comes from freshwater sources, which aren't as low as GA's but still aren't great. I think I remember 1 wet weekend for autox in the last 2 years and I autox a lot.

As for what I did to the P5 this weekend, finally stole my all-seasons back from the Spicy and put the old Azenis on the Spicy. Oh, and ordered the front suspension bits from Mazda Motorsports so I can put springs back on the car.

On the water restriction side of this conversation, I heard today that we have 79 days of water left in the supplies until the taps run dry.

Sonny Perdue, the governor, is appealing to the President to declare a state of emergency so that control can be taken from the Corps of Engineers to have them stop sending water to Alabama & Florida. I guess what is happening is that almost double the amount that should be getting sent down to them is getting sent, due to whatever reasons.

OK, WTF?? I was finally going to have a chance to ride my mountain bike!!

ATLANTA (Reuters) - Georgia has declared a state of emergency over its worst drought in decades and appealed to President George W. Bush for federal aid, newspapers said on Sunday.

"We are experiencing the single worst drought in Georgia history." said Perdue, who declared the state of emergency for 85 of the state's 159 counties.

Much of the state is experiencing a drought classified as "extreme," which happens once every 50 to 100 years, according to climatologists.

We're in the midst of a super drought, my Fall Break is this Thursday and Friday, and what's the forecast for the next 5 days?

I know AZ is weird, so here you go.

Imagine those sparsely spaced white fluffy clouds covering the entire blue sky, darkening it to a dull gray (or Cosmic Blue, if you prefer). Then imagine the smell of freshly cut grass (green plants people in the rest of the Country have in their yards) and water starts falling out of the sky.

It's really amazing, I think everyone should experience it at least once.

I put new battery #2 in my P5 today. Got treated to the ole slow to no crank yesterday morning. Went to Advance Auto and spent $85 on the incorrect battery. Came home from work tonight yanked it out and went back to different Store and got correct battery. My car started idling really crappy today so while I was under the hood I checked out the plugs and all. Found out that one of my coil boots is f'd so now I'm debating the 1.8 swap. But, I just found the 2.0 coils at AutoZone for 17.99 and the boots for 9.99 so I'll probably just replace it all and hope it smooths out the idle.

Got another part installed last week but I'm not going to talk about it til I have pics.. I know how you all are about pics.

Magnum, I love those MSP wheels on your car. If only they weren't so heavy or if only my car wasn't NA...lol.

Well, the one that was dead was the original Panasonic which lasted 93K. Then I bought one at advanced that was top/side mount and it didn't sit in the hole right so, I went to a different store and got the top mount one only.

I just didn't have the extra $$ to go with Optima.

Nice. About time. Hows the sqeak?

Haha....I actually bought it Friday (19th) but didn't get a chance to do it until Sunday. It was super easy though....a helluva lot better than the painting I did Saturday.

Still no return of the squeak?! I still roll the windows down and turn off the radio from time to time but nothing.... (dunno)

Claim that with a lighter wheel and tire package you get better gas mileage.
Or make a big deal about it when it's time to change the rubber.

"I need new tires anyway, nows the time for new rims if I'm gonna get them."

These are the tactics i used.

hehe....you are not the only one

That is what I did - Optima Redtop - $149.99 (after exchange) or

With Christmas and dance costumes/competitions coming up, it was an easy choice.

update on fire in my area: the winds are blowing all the fires west and south.

its already reaching the coast... the closest fire now is directly east of us. but it wont come through without warning. because the winds are blowing southwest its unlikely theyll come my way. on top of that it would have to burn through all of the town next to us, so wed have a little warning. my car is all packed up and ready to leave if we have to.

thankfully the cornado hills fire, which was the one closest to my house the other day has been contained. im amazed at how SD county pulled together. These firefighters are doing an amazing job.

i want to wash my car and get that ash off, but i know it would be inconsiderate because of the situation we are all in.

Well, looks like I have developed a bit of a clunk. Not sure where it is coming from just yet. Everything underneath seems tight, I emptied out everything from the backend trying to see if it was somehting in the hatch area. Nope....... On a sad note, I did notice that my passenger rear wheel is bent on the inside as I was laying underneath...............Doesn't seem to shake or anything going down the road. Winter tires and wheels might be going on sooner rather than later....

I don't recall from reading earlier threads, does the Progress bar get the dreaded clunk ?

Yaggie1
10-25-2007, 07:53 AM
Wow, not much action here yesterday. Got back under the car yesterday to try and find out where the clunk came from. Decided to pull the sway bar off and see if that was it. Yep, it was. Only one problem, I snapped off one of the end link bolts and rounded the head off one of the nuts trying to get em off. 98,000 miles and 4 Michigan winters don't do good things to the stock end links.......... She's a bit sloppy without a rear sway bar underneath her that's for sure (shocked).

Test drove a Mazdaspeed 3 today when I was picking up an axle nut at the stealership.

Speed3 review
cons
-test drive lady in car with me so no beating on it :(
-felt slower than my P5?!?!
-clutch pedal felt wonky
-stupid traction control computer bs
-18" wheels = junk

pros
-seats were omg awesome
-clutch grips damn good though!
-no rattles/terrible ride

I'm guessing that I only think my P5 is faster because it is obnoxiously loud and rough. Also maybe due to that boost limiting in 1st and 2nd on the MS3. I don't know if I really want to trade my P5 for one. Maybe just trade my seats for some MS3 seats :D

I replaced my drivers side headlight (again) sylvania h7 superwhites..(were still under warrantee),

Washed the pro5 with a new to me product called "optimum no rinse wash and shine" (ONR). Worked great, went fast, you just wash one panel at a time, then dry it immiediatly. (ie. no rinse with hose). Topped with finishkare 425...left it nice and slick.

(about to do a real detail, just wanted to try new products...currently nothing else on the paint wax/sealant wise....gonna clay/polish/seal again soon)

Made room in garage to fit her in for halloween night to avoid egging.

warm weather bastards...(upyours) although the only way to drift is in the snow and we have you beat there(headbang)

Meh, I have lived in the warm weather states and prefer it over this cold shit.

I will never forget my first winter after moving to Florida. We got a 1/4" of snow and they closed schools. Was a pleasant surprise to the kid who just spent 3 1/2 years in Rochester MN followed by 2 1/2 years in Lexington KY.

ok, so my car started misfiring again...

no CEL yet, but itll probably come on tomorrow... and im just searching and reading through the threads tryna figure it out.

the best way i can describe my problem is that at idle (750) the engine coughs... theres a misfire, and the rpms dip for a second, like a cough...

when the CEL comes on tomorrow when i go to take it to the mechanic, the car will sound like a lawn mower, the air is going to smell like shit, and the car is going to run horribly. anyone have any ideas what it is?

when this happened the first time, it cleared up on its own, when it happened the 2nd time, i took it to the mechanic, and he replace the cylinder 1 wire... and the problem seemed to go away, but ive just been noticing, and hearing the different sounds my car is making...

Finally got the brake job done. The original set of Brembo/Hawks finally gave up at 75k. Still were working great. Started hearing the faintest scraping. Both inner front pads ended up being paper thin & the ridge around the edge of the rotor had just started touching the pad a little. Other than that every other pad on the car still had a fat 1/8 inch left. Busted 2 lugs on 1 front hub taking shit apart (1 lug, 1 lock) but I was not to be denied. Fetched 2 new ones, popped them in then went back with new c/s rotors, kevlar metallic pads, goodridge brake lines, caliper slide lube, syn brk fluid flush & a fresh set of black lugs/locks. All good, driving nice to bed them in so they'll last 75k too.

you drive nice to bed pads in? You're supposed to go very hard on them for brief periods to get them done right, followed by long periods of no braking to let them cool.

Yes I've done the initial drive it like you stole it make sure everything is installed right no weird noise 60 to 15 stopping & going more then letting them cool thang. Just in the 500 mile before the coating wears off phase. Thanks for your concern.

oh and btw, while my car was on the lift, my mechanic mentioned how he really liked the quality of the racing beat exhaust. He liked the stainless steel piping, and he said the welds were really nice. they specialize in hondas, thus they see alot of shitty exhausts. Made me feel good to have such a quality piece on my car.

The red top Optima battery that is in the Prote that was in the 66 Mustang is about 7 or 8 years old. It gave up the ghost today on my wife Christy. Its dead and won't hold a charge.

Since the Dodge is having some sensor issues, I'll pull the red top Optima out of the Dodge that used to be in my old jeep since 1998. It'll do until next payday when I can get a yellow top for the prote.

Tune is getting better but it seems that everyrun I do I end up having to make one or two small adjustments. Boost seemd a little higher today as well... hit 9+ psi once or twice although according to my gauge I should be at 10. I guess the autometer's questionable accuracy is at work here.

So, Ol' Blue's got reason to be excited because her and her cousin Dory will have a new bedroom in a few weeks. Finally, they don't have to sleep outside while I'm warm inside! :p

The new place has one of these:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a247/amaff/Houses/DSC00059.jpg

Oh yes, I'm stoked. Srsly. However, notice anything odd? Huge 2 car garage. Single, tiny incandescent bulb. Hmmm, how do we fix this? Well, Ol' Blue had to chip in and do a little work today:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a247/amaff/The%20Pro5/11-03-07_1850.jpg

There was a couple selling fluorescent lights on Craigslist. These are all 2x4", 3 bulb grid fluorescents. You'll count 8 in the hatch, and there's a 'hidden' one in the passenger seat. Arrange them 3 x 3, multiply by 3 bulbs each and that's 27 fluorescents in a 2 car garage. It's gonna be bright as a muuuuug in there :D. Yay for having a workshop!

Oh... they were $15 a pop. Lowes lists equivalent ones at almost $50/ea. Word?
