You know, I thought about rolling thru to see if I could find your car but I wasn't sure which development you were in........I am currently at work at the DC across from you right now. Gotta be here until 6a.m. Pretty much blows but it's easy right now and I am getting paid so I can't complain too much other than it is a holiday weekend....Ahhh well, I did pick up a ticket for the Columbus Crew MLS game tomorrow afternoon before I have to be back here tomorrow night. Should be kinda cool.

Bala, for some reason I'm surprised you haven't "turboed" your P5. Yeah yeah....I know....you already have a MSP.

Edit: I just discovered the answer to this post by catching up on the "custom problem cam" thread. One problem at a time.

Haha - yeah ... I need at least one reliable daily driver ...

Thanks - and yes, it's the OBX. I'm with you on wanting to see how this "extreme" coating holds up. Here's the header with original Sterling two years ago:
http://www.msprotege.com/members/Bala%20de%20Plata/OBX%20008mod.jpg

Here's how it looked after 23 months and 18K miles ... I will admit that it had to live with WOT conditions on a regular basis (glare) Heh - try merging into LA traffic on a daily basis ...

The final straw that got the header sent back for a warranty re-coat: Backside at the collector
http://www.msprotege.com/members/Bala%20de%20Plata/o.obx4.JPG

I'll be keeping an eye on it ... the new extreme sterling is not quite as shiny, but has a higher temp rating. Jet-Hot was cool about the warranty issue (2 years) and only charged me $50 to upgrade to "extreme". Will continue to eval ...

I don't know where the master cylinder is in relationship to the intake

It's actually back a bit a between the battery and intake - you can see it in this shot ... it's really close at the elbow with my K&N intake, like 1/4" - some other aftermarket brands have even less clearance, you just need to loosen all of the couplers and adjust ...

Map gas and a pry bar. It's not 100%, but it's good enough to get me by until I get another one and have them put it on. It doesn't pull to any direction, the steering wheel is straight (unlike the 45 degree angle it was when I drove it home), and it got me back home. I live 9 miles from a Mazda shop. I'm gonna try to get it done before the 22nd (Ohio fun run).

Wouldn't be the first time my old man came up with a scheme like that. My younger sister's first car was a 94 Neon that we got for something around $350. The water pump froze, sheared the timing belt, and bent two valves...so what does he do? Bend them back. She drove it for 3 years with no issue.

not today, but this past Sunday...

slowpro98 and I installed my jethotted AWR 4-2-1 headers on my p5. Yay! Also, seanmcsean was there too. He was grillmaster and also there for moral support.

Install went pretty smoothly for the most part...had a bitch of a time getting the egr pipe onto the header without stripping the threads on the bung, and getting the spring bolts attached required a special wrench (not enough clearance), but other than that everything was pretty straightforward. I've driven it almost 200 miles since and no CEL yet! (2thumbs)

hahaha yeah I wish I could be there to see it. I told them to call me if they had a "wtf" moment.

The fuel pump install was easy except for the screws stripping, but a screw extractor fixed that. Oh and dremelling the plastic cap from the stock one to fit on the new pump was kind of annoying too. Make sure you start early enough you can run to the hardware store and buy new machine screws if you need to :) M4 .7 x 6mm I think.

Sigh, squeaking was the throw-out bearing on the clutch. So I'll have to put up with that until I fix it myself.

As for the gas thing, they think that there was some sort of thing in the fuel line that needed to be replaced... gotta drop out the tank and overnight the part to do that. All the sensors were working ok I guess. I hope this fixes it because it will probably end up costing a good deal :(

Not me, but my wife got her second speeding ticket in 2 months this morning! I told her she was going to have to give me the P5 and she'll be driving the MPV now, so she's less able to speed and less likely to get noticed/pulled over. She said she'd been thinking the same thing! :D

you won't be able to hear a racing beat exhaust much more than stock...unless it's the mazdaspeed sport exhaust you're talking about? in fact the racing beat will only free up a few more ponies...the opposite of what you're trying to do in this case lol

Actually, we had the MSP exhaust on the car for a while, and she complained about the noise bothering her on her highway commute, so I pulled it off again. It's not really loud, but for a long run at a single speed (the non-traffic part of her commute to ATL) it is kind of hard to ignore, and it bothered her, so I pulled it.

Today's ticket was here in Athens, though, as she accelerated past some slow traffic that was getting on her nerves. She doesn't really believe she was going as fast as the cop says, but then, she also admits she wasn't paying that much attention to her speed and thought the limit was higher on that road than it was! I was just thinking that some exhaust noise would have reminded her that her foot was on the floor! ;)

Well I have a clink-ity clink.clink.clickclickclickclickclickclickclick... . it started making the noise, was constant for a few minutes then it went away. I haven't drove my car since then (two days) but I started it up a couple times to check. I could get the starting clinks once but the other time it sounded clean. The noise sounds like it's coming from right in front of the passenger air bag under the hood while I'm sitting in the driver seat. Check engine light doesn't turn on.

I need to. This upgraded turbo is really different - it even sounds different (either that or this was a sign the turbo had problems before the "refresh"). I also put the ATP wastegate actuator in there and my boost level actually went down! I guess my old one really was going, but now I am at a steady 7 psi at WOT. Definitely pulls a little harder but nothing mind-blowing. We are trying to plan a big dyno day for sometime in Oct. Hopefully by then I will have the AFC in and in good working order. The stock fuel system is definitely having to work a little harder - the lowest AFR's I saw at WOT were 10.2:1 as opposed to the usual 10:1 or lower. I need to get that fuel pump in there... I'd like to see 200+ whp with the current setup...

...If I get really ambitious I'll up the boost to 10 psi, drop in my 440 cc injectors and tune the AFC... (nana)

Prosport gauges, they are sweet for the price! They do fancy dance (dance) when you turn the car on and have different color choices depending how you wire it up. Got it off of Ebay for 899.00 for both pieces.

That looks like a nice setup. Good price too! I'm so weary about buying such an expensive item on ebay...I'd feel safer with Crutchfield or even Circuit City (booo!) since I know there's a place I can take it to or call if something goes wrong. Ya know?

Now you need the Music Keg... It's nice, unless you got an Ipod.

my passenger side mount is broken. the best thing I have heard is when people have them custom filled with high strength shit, where should I start looking for this. Also if I do this can I expect my other mounts to break. I don't know why such a hamster powered car would break the stock mounts.

The better question should be, why were the same mounts used in the MSP?

Installed my RPM shark-fin antenna today! Hid my sirius antenna beneath it. Pics in my audio install thread.

Now there's something rolling around in the headliner. I think a clip poped out while I was putting the panels back together. Going to drop the headliner tomorrow to try to find it.

My door lock actuator in the driver's side door also went out today. I hope the warranty covers it in a simple manner.

Dropped 1/2 of headliner today and found nothing. Rolling around thing stopped making noise this morning too, but I swear I heard it late this afternoon. Maybe I'll mess with it tomorrow.

Also found out my uncle's shop can do my warranty work! Woot!!! Now I can mod without fear of voiding my warranty.

If it is in fact totaled I'll just get another P5, since I have all the turbo parts and new wheels and tires already.
The question is: should I get another silver one and not tell my parents, or get a white or a laser blue one and tell them somehow...?

Yeah, I doubt they would fall for that. I wont find out if it's totaled until tomorrow at the earliest, which sucks. I need to know now!OK, flashbacks on a bad time a coupla years ago only it was the front end & no airbags went off. Still was close to total. If they do total then it'll get paid off or you should get paid for it if it's already paid off THEN you can buy it back cheap & fix it back up better than it was. Hang in there. Had similar despair then it turned out OK. Still, sorry for the suck situation.
