i thought it looked messed up. don't see how that much tq will have that little hp

Im slightly skeptical as well, but its not outside the relm of possiblility is all Im saying. My truck with a 7.5L V8 only makes 230hp but still cranks out 390ft/lbs of torque in stock form.

+1. You can have engines that put out crazy torque numbers, of that I have no doubt. The FS-DE, however, isn't one of those....

Still fighting issues with the P5. My oil pressure seems very low when compared to others on the forums but I can't seem to figure out why. At cold startup it goes to like 55 psi at idle but at full warmup it just barely sits above th 0 psi mark. Now I know it has to be full - I just added another 1/2 qt on Sat. because I had a small leak from the return line - fixed. I notice no oil spots on parking spaces, no oil in the engine bay, no blue smoke while driving. I notice while driving at 3000 - 3500 RPM the pressure sits at 37.5 psi. For reference I have the autometer short sweep electrical oil pressure gauge. Is this indicating there is something seriously wrong with the car or that something is wrong with the gauge or does this all seem normal?

you could always try a different gague. I think you'd have 'noticed' if pressure was that low.

That's my thought. At one point in time it never sat that low - it would always be around 50 psi above 3000 RPM and would idle at like 12.5 psi. It just seems that after turbo'ing my oil pressure has gone down quite a bit. But I think my gauge is a little off because I added about 1.5 qts of oil over the last week and the gauge really didn't show any difference in reading. Also, I'm running Mobile1 10W30 and it's starting to get warmer here - would that have anything to do with it?

EDIT: Anyone here with Autometer's full sweep electril oil pressure gauge? I'm just wondering is the same sender is used for the short sweep so all I would have to do is switch out the gauge.

Hmm... it just seems that since I went to a lighter flywheel and replaced that one fitting back in early March my oil pressure has been lower. But the oil level is definitely full (well it was on Saturday) and there are no major leaks (nothing visible). I mean, the car does not feel any different - drives the same it always had since first turbo'ing. Are there any other serious issues that could be going on or has my gauge just gone screwy? I plan on going with some Redline motoroil and back with the OEM oil filter... Now could that be the issue? I think I remember reading that aftermarket oil filts can cause lower oil pressures. That would make sense because I went to a K&N around the same time back in March. That and my oil cap is leaking a little but I don't think that has anything to do with it, right?

There's this off ramp on my way to work that has an amazingly flat, smooth and grippy intersection at the end. I always catch that light green, so I do about 40 thru the left hander. I saw that happen once.

A friend of mine bought a raised truck that had been sitting in front of a yard for a couple weeks and drove it that night. He was testing the 4x4 in a field when the property owner showed up and gave chase. We were going around a turn while also going over a hill and as we went airborne the front right tire came off. The truck landed on the spindle and we slid off the road into someones yard. We were lucky we didn't roll it. I wish someone had been in the yard with a videocamera, it would have been quite a shot.

Mine were just tightened with hand tools so my theory is that someone started trying to steal a wheel then noticed the lock nuts and left.

My brother lost a wheel on his bronco earlier this year on the freeway. Sept in his case the luggs didnt come loose the bolts SHEARED OFF. Nobody is quite sure how that managed to happen but with the amount of rust on that truck and the kind of off-road abuse it gets I'm not all that surprised it happened more surprised it didn't happen while he was jumping it like you're friend.

Big breaker bar man! I'm pretty sure you could pull on the bar from above the car if you wanted. Otherwise just jack it up decently high and go to town underneath it.

I priced the rear also, since I am planning to proceed with the rear inserts once the fronts are broken in. IIRC, it is well under $100. Like $80 or something.

For me it's well worth the money if they do it right. I like working on the car and everything, but there is stuff I'm just not comfortable touching, so I probably shouldn't.

well i finally got it in. it's makin that noise again that it was b4. it's kind of like a groaning noise. (kinda like an auto sounds like if you release the brake a little but not all the way how it makes that initial noise, at least my mom's van does.) i think it's the other mounts having the movement thrown on them now and they are already going out. since the front is locked in it's throwing the movement around to the other putting too much on them. reasons why i think this:

*if i accelerate slowly, no noise
*if i start off normal in 1st gear it makes the noise, and if i accelerate hard in 2nd it makes the noise.
*if i granny drive it, it doesn't make the noise

i think it was such a pain b/c the other mounts aren't squaring the engine up like they should so it was hard to get this one in. maybe the other's will be a lil easier since the front is squared up now. it's nice to be able to drive w/o the car jumping forward everytime i stick the clutch in. can't wait to get the others in. i might take it somewhere to get the rear in, idk if i am comfortable taking that much stuff apart

This is the dealer you're referring to (charging the $100) I assume? Just be careful with that. When I was getting quotes on the rear mm, I called the dealer as well and their quote was "book time says one hour" so yeah like $80-100. Sounds great BUT if they break a bolt, etc, that's extra time that you have to pay for - which could end up being a little or a lot more than 1 hour. I wasn't willing to chance it and get a $200+ bill when I went to pick up my car.

Luckily my regular mechanic quoted me one hour firm (even after I brought the how-to in so he could see what he was in for - doesn't work on Mazdas much) and stuck to it. I just had mine done when I replaced my clutch, something I'm sorry I didn't do 2 years ago.

well i finally got it in. it's makin that noise again that it was b4. it's kind of like a groaning noise.

I'm glad you got that bolt in! It does sound to me that the noise is the other mount or noise from stuff hitting due to movement.

Yep, it's the dealer. Thank you for the warning!

Yah its worth it though. Are transmissions take about 2.5 quarts, but I put three in.(sssh) (shady) So either way buy 3 quarts. Also I don't know if you have changed your transmission fluid before but you will need a funnel and a long tube.

Put the header back on today. Went for a bit of a drive. For some reason the noise doesn't seem quite as loud..........Maybe it's because of the new louder stereo so I don't notice it as much (thumb) . I was wondering if the header back on would add more vibrations with the SLS front mount but, it really didn't add much at all. Still have the get the front end fixed after the woodchuck incident. Yeah that's what I would try next. I spent probably two hours adjusting the exhaust via flanges only to realize it wasn't going work. Just be intuitive about how you're bending or moving things - don't want to get it backwards and have it crushed against the crossmember. I removed them and put caps on the pegs. Also what did you do with the one sensor that was plugged into the CC and the two sensors plugged into the bracket?? Mine are just hanging there right now. What should I do???
Ah I see now. You only should have disconnected one of those sensors. I'm not sure what the other two are but you definitely want to leave those in. Here's a pic of how I have everything setup, its not the best but...

I got this thing from an Autozone, it has a grille on the top where the oil drains in so if your plug falls in it catches it. It has a drain on the end of it so you can unscrew the cap and empty it out into whatever you want, or take the whole thing into the store and they can drain it to be recycled.

I got my battery in and tested to see if my gauges and junk work... they do! They are all different colors though lol. At least they work (2thumbs) Also the Microtech seems to be showing good lights, so hopefully that works. I need to bleed the brakes, get some more coolant, and put the IC pipes on. Then it is judgement day... see if the beast cranks!

Whats up everyone. new 02 p5 owner here ... been readin around these forums to get some ideas lately.

Yesterday I installed a 10" alpine type R sub with a jl 500.1 to power it... just finished fine tuning it today and it sounds sick (next up is door speakers and then a head unit).

One thing that bothered me when I got the car was the wind noise (more of a whistling/windy noise) coming from the roof rack (REALLY loud at 45-50mph). Someone on the forums here suggested that maybe if you turned around the roof rack it might sound quieter (because of the air diffuser thing or whatever its called, that is located on one side of it).

No one tried this fix for some reason so I didn't know for sure if it worked but today I removed the front roof rack crossbar and turned it around (I noticed that the back crossbar's diffuser was faced forward and the front crossbar was faced backwards).

Well, it worked! I drove the car 50-60mph and all I could hear was a very reasonable whooshing noise, no more loud whistling!

One other thing that I noticed when taking off the crossbars was that the rear one, which mind you was facing the correct direction, actually had an 'R' and an 'L' stamped into the metal denoting which side was which while the front crossbar had none. Maybe this is an explanation of why some people experience the wind noise while others don't? Assuming they used real people to bolt down the crossbars, it's possible that they were not aware that there was a correct front and back to the crossbars and messed a lot of em up.

heh, crazy theory but it makes sense

I have a slightly difference vacuum setup because of the turbo so what I did might not apply to you. I had a T in the vacuum line so I just removed the T and the line going to the CC. Actually, looking back at some old pics, I see that the single vacuum line output at the top of the IM went to the CC so I would have only removed that line and capped the nipple. I don't know what the other line is that you are talking about.

Me and my dad had the cruise set at between 65 and 70...route dependant. I've always used cruise on my cars, and have never had an issue. I've usually always got better mileage too. My Civic retained CC after the engine swap, but the spring on the throttle body is too stiff for it to really work too well.

SIBalla23

You would know a misfire because the car shakes like a mofo. If your getting a rough idle its a good chance its the egr and that could be why there is a cel. Also the possiblilty of your nonfouler not doing its job and the ecu seeing no cat. I believe autozone is free, not sure about advanced auto.

I noticed my oil pressure seems to continue to drop. I don't get it, no major leaks (very small one at oil return), the oil is nearly at full level (I lose a fair amount via blow-by) and no blue smoke/oil at the tailpipe. Because of the last thing I don't think its a piston ring, but I have yet to pull the sparkplugs to inspect them. I guess it could be the gauge but I'd hate to pay another $50+ on a gauge and sender only to find the original was fine.

Any of the turbo guys in here (bazooka joe)? Just curious where you have your oil pressure sender. Is it inline with you oil feed line? Going back to my aerospace knowledge I'm beginning to think that because my sender is inline with the oil feed the oil is flowing past it at some rate and therefore the pressure is reading lower. Hmm...

Drop compared to what? A couple days ago? Pre-turbo? I remember reading in a thread where other people said their pressure was lower after turbo, pretty much because of the reason you described. It is flowing past it, not just stopping there like in a non-oil feed line.

Well I don't remember pre-turbo too much but yeah its definitely gone down since then. I really hope this is just the case because I can't imagine I'm having near-zero oil pressures fully warmed up at idle. I guess the sender isn't really accurate in that sort of position. Are there any other locations where we could put the sender for a more accurate reading? Now if only I could fix my blow-by problem and stop my car from eating it's own oil...

By the way, glad to see your P5 up and running finally. Can't wait to see some numbers. (headbang)

I'm actually using Samco lines (same thing essentially, just not a kit) but this is infact normal? I was worried because I thought this was the cause of my oil consumption issue - I guess I still yet have some learning to do. So the residue on the outside is just where the oil vapors have seaped through? This would explain why I saw more oil after I installed the Millenia PCV because it let more oil vapors out. Would it be better to have a catch can between the PCV and those lines so no oil vapor enters the combustion chamber?

PCV>Catch Can>IM T where PCV connected.

Exedy Stage 1 Hopefully I don't (burn) it up!

I got around 60k miles out of my Clutchmasters Stage IIR rated at like 240Tq it was near stock feel and I'm at around 260Tq now at 12psi but soon well over 300tq when I get my Speed Circuit block in a few months. Probably have to upgrade again when I'm at that point.

Nice! I was going to go that route once but I just don't think it's worth it anymore with these cars. Sure 300+ whp is great but with FWD it gets a little crazy. I plan on settling at 10 psi with an AFC and everything else will just be bolt-ons and subsequent re-tunes - hopefully will put me in the 225-250 whp range with stock internals. I didn't know the Stage 1 was that strong!

I was at 10 for a long while then I got my J&S Safeguard figuring I'd be happy with the safety net at 10. Converted to a CAI and it raised my boost a little more so now at 12. I have 20k invested in this car and just paid it off so I'm not quite finished yet. Too much time, money, sweat, blood and tears...

I'm hoping the Exedy will hold but will probably end up with an upgrade before big boost!

Took out my mismatched spring combo-nation and put in the Megane springs. Rides like a dream now and I have much more neutral handling than before. All in all, a good upgrade for little $$.

Yeah I started right away with a FMIC and with other various intake upgrades so I was sitting around 7-8 psi just off the wastegate. I'm hoping since that was my baseline if I go from there to 10 psi it shouldn't increase with other mods and at least I could turn it down some. I am definitely considering a J&S along the road somewhere too. I really hope the Exedy works out for you. It's one of the best feeling clutches I have ever used.

No problem mang. I'll just hit you up when I get another one. Though all the hard work is already done.

Drove it for the first time in... a long time. I went around the block and it sucked lol

Need to bleed brakes, clutch line, and tune it. It'd cut out sometimes and just felt like crap in general. I'm digging the Microtech though!

Oh and I'm going to order the rest of the GHL 3" turboback exhaust to go with their downpipe that I already have. Way too loud and I doubt I can get anything custom that is decent, quite, and cheap. Plus I'm not big into waiting forever. (already done that)

i
f my radio fuse is 15 amps and that is what i am adding the circuit to, do i need a 15 amp fuse for the add a circuit as well? i think the radio is 15 so does that mean i need a 15 for the add as well so both are 15?

so i want to turbo my p5 bad, but by the time i get the money to do it i would be at almost 90 k. Should i go ahead with the turbo, or should i just stay NA? If i stay NA I'm gonna get a reactive header, mp3 ECU, UDp, and perhaps either higher compression piston or Ken's cams, or maybe even both. Any input?

p.s. im trying to stretch my ear to a 0 gauge and it hurts like hell!

Nah... the radio part will be a 15. Then whatever your accessory draws, put that in there, like a 3 or 5a. I think the back of the box explains it. If it doesn't, I can look at mine. But you probably just put the accessory fuse on the side with the wire... 15a on the other side.

Decided to pull all the paint off my heat shield because it was flaking off. Turned out to be more difficult than I expected and now I have a partially polished heat shield. Oh well, I want to go with an aftermarket exhaust manifold anyway.

Big-time cleaned the interior in preparation for the Mega Meet this weekend. Vacuumed, steam-cleaned, wiped down, etc. Looks nice, now only if the exterior looked as good, LOL!

ok. i wasnt sure if they both had to be the same since they were sharing a fuse outlet. i'll check the direct wire box and see what it says. thanks :)
