um....what? So explain all the other ppl that have the AWR / SLS front mounts ALONE w/ no problems.

Take your time.

it's called a torn rear mount. the rear is torn so stiffening the front makes it worse and allows the back to twist more than with the crappy stock mount, makeing a noise exactly where i said it was coming from. time taken

aMaff

Ah, so it's NOT the SLS mount's fault then, that's just exasperating another problem. Gotcha.

I don't see how getting kartboy hangers is going to fix your issue. Why don't you just fix the problem???

the hangers are for the muffler hitting the rear bumper when i go over bumps and shifting at high rpms from the engine moving so much- mostly for the bumps as the mounts will solve the engine movement. i'll get the mounts too.

yea, it was makin the noise and the noise was pretty disgusting so i took it out and sold it until i can get the entire engine set up for the mounts.

Listen to Noise (http://amsgator.com/Weird%20Noise.wav)- around 16 seconds you will hear it. it sounds worse on here than it does in person, but it was still pretty bad.

EDIT: it was my phone recording so it's pretty bad quality

sorry to hear about the accident patrick, glad she's not hurt too badly though :(

my baby goes in today to get her summer wheels put on (yay!), but i found two nails in one tire so i'll have to get them pulled out and the tire patched (if need be). the tribute washer nozzles and all new shifter hardware go in too. the current setup with the bronzoils is rattling like a mofo and i can't take it any longer; replacing with all OEM, hopefully that will solve the problem.

on a really aggravating note, gas has gone up yet again. i think we're paying the equivalent of about $5 a gallon for regular right now..

One thing I love about the 626 single runner manifold is how much room is under it, thanks to no fat chamber thing under it. I took it off again after putting the motor in and thought "gee, that wasn't so hard, why'd I cry so bad last time?" Then I remembered how freaking huge that thing was.

Anyways... I think I used a 1/2" ratchet on the support bracket, along with an extension w/ 14mm socket. That or a mini-breaker bar thing, not sure what it is called, but thank god I have my friend's Mac tools. The oil sender is a 24mm socket IIRC. Don't break it in the block!!!!!!!

Speaking of bird ^$^&*.... I have been messing around with RAM air on my P5. As you can see in the first picture the Weapon R SW intake does not give you enough @$&^@%# room to connect it. I added a 60 degree elbow and moved my coolant resevior over a bit and there was just enough room. I mounted the ram air scoop under the bumper. My wife has not crunched it on a parking block yet I am very surprised. I will eventually move it somewhere out of sight or just extend it to a CAI. THis is easy as I can just put the cover on the scoop if it rains.
I not so proudly claim the title of dirtiest engine compartment in the world including the avian glob on my fender. Not to mention the marks on my front bumper my 2 year old made with a sharpe from my toolbox :( Ahh kids...thats ok I was lucky enough to have time to do this.

With as dirty as you car is you are going to need a bucket of soapy water.

Clean it with a sponge just like you would on the outside then rinse it off. Be carefull not to get the airfilter wet. If you do don't start the car until you get it dry.

I clean my engine bay everytime I wash my car. That's weekly.

Also why wait until its paid off to get an intake? I got my intake within the first month after buying my car back in 2003.

I got my intake within the first month after buying my car back in 2003.

is everything under the hood able to get wet other than the air filter?

that's probably just the weld from when it was shortened. If they're using the stock hangers right now switching to the kartboy hangers won't change anything except maybe how close it stays to the bumper.

the muffler tip sticks out an inch or so, and i think it was like that since day one, but sometimes i think it is hanging out more now than when i put it on. not sure though

Don't directly spray water where the coils set or down into the spark plugs.

Oil & water don't mix. LOL

I just do an overspray with the hose and get it all wet. Then take a soapy rag and clean everything. Then do a low pressure rince. I have an air compressor so I blow out most of the water when I'm done. Then I go over the entire engine bay with a microfiber cloth. At shows I'll put dressing on everything to make it shiny and or glossy.

Vibrants installed and its sweet. If you lost a bit of that wow factor when driving your P5 and your still running the stock exhaust, this is just the ticket to give you back that feeling when you first picked up your car.

Now some pics after the installation.

for the most part yes. I would cover a few things with plastic bags just in case though...fuse box, air filter, any wires that look really exposed, etc. Just don't go spraying water in there like there's no tomorrow. low pressure and as little water as possible.

I used Black Magic Engine Shine the last time and it works really well. You just wet down the engine bay, spray the stuff in there, and then rinse it off. Voila.

Honestly though, would I really feel the difference with an intake in my automatic?

a little, but the kartboy hangers are a lot stiffer than the stock ones. The stock ones let your exhaust bounce a little. The kartboy ones, while they do raise your exhaust a little higher, keep it at that height and do not allow for any bounce.

yea, it's a little closer. it doesnt hit nemore going over bumps it just wont stay centered on the cut out :( so it hits when it vibrates at startup and while driving. i tried the zip ties to keep it in place but it didnt work. idk what else to try but i need to find somethin.

A new one is less that $20 from the dealer. I did the exact same thing with some armor all that was left on for too long. You could also try using some plastic polish and you may be able to polish it well enough to not need to replace it.

hey, well i finally got it to stay. added more zip ties and i think the grease was allowing the ties to slide. i think its the motor mounts allowing excess vibes into the exhaust b/c its in place now but it still hits, like vibrating hits not clunk hit (like it did w/ stock). so until i can afford motor mounts i think i am going to put some padding on the bumper cut out to keep it from makin so much noise and protect the paint

thanks for the how to btw. the grease made it a million times easier. cut the stock ones off too, nearly impossible to get the midpipe ones off w/o cutting

This is the problem I am currently running into. At certain speeds my midpipe is bumping into the heatshield underneath the car. I think if I just bend the hangers a little more as one side isn't very tight (the hanger isn't really holding the pipe anymore) everything will work out. I am getting sick of trying to make this MAM midpipe a good product - right from the start the fitment has sucked. I can't wait until SLS releases their 3" midpipe (drive)

Yeah mines definitely the midpipe - the muffler isn't moving anywhere, the Kartboy hangers have it held in place decently. I just think I have one of the hangers in the wrong place (I didn't really look at the sizes when I installed them) and one of the hangers on the midpipe is not supporting it. With the car on I can see the midpipe vibrating quite a bit.

amsgator, I think this may help you out. My P5's exhaust consists of an OBX header - MAM midpipe - RB cat-back. First off, all exhaust systems (even the OEM) expand and grow as they heat up. A few issues pop up when you increase the pipe diameter with an aftermarket setup and things are compounded when you construct an exhaust system from different aftermarket suppliers - the "excepted" manufacturing tolerances add up with each piece and it may take a bit of work to keep things from coming in contact with other parts both when the system is cold and when it is up to temp. It took a quite a few tries before I got things dialed in and a friend to help out will make it easier. I started with the 12mm Kartboy hangers in the front and the 10mm in the rear. No matter how much I adjusted the pipes by loosening the bolts and repositioning/tightening - I could not stop the RB from hitting the underside of the car over bumps where it loops over the rear subframe. Next, I placed the OEM's back at the midpipe and the 12mm at the rear and I got a cold start up rattle. Finally, I put the OEM mounts back at the rear, loosened all the exhaust bolts and re-tightened things with the recommendation that RB has with the installation of the cat-back. For example, I pushed up (hard) on the mid-pip and 1st section of the RB while pushing up (effectively forcing the other end of this section down) on the RB exhaust tip while I tightened the bolts at the section that goes over the rear sub frame. Success! A few mm here and there make all the difference. I now have zero contact at any time.

i am gonna play around with it this weekend hopefully, maybe early next week. i'm not sure if it's hitting where yours hit or if it's the bumper, i am gonna have someone look while i start the car and start accelerating to see if it's the bumper or if it's the part above the subframe. i can put the jackstands on the rear cross member that goes across to the two rear wheels correct?

did you mean you pushed down on the other end?

To be most accurate, you need the car as level as possible while doing this (as if it was sitting on the ground) - but you need to be able to fit under the car lol. I put the front up on ramps and the rear on jack stands.

The area I'm trying to bring to attention is the "Tip position adjustment", with my point being that this technique works at all points of the exhaust system where there are bolts. You may need to pull on one section of pipe while pushing in the other direction on another section while tightening things up. The problem i was having with the kartboy hangers on my setup was that they were pulling the rear section of the RB up towards the underside of the car too much, and no amount of adjusting could stop the contact I was getting. Obviously, depending on what components you have, the Kartboy hangers may work just fine - they just didn't in my case.

Rather than have my car fall on me, I put the rear up on ramps, braced my feet on the frame and used the handle end of a hammer (and lotsa lube) to force it off ... once you have completed this task you can truly call yourself a man.

:D - just keep monkying around with things - you'll find the magic position.

it doesnt move but it makes a rattling noise from there the muffler and s pipe are joined b/c it is hitting the chassis :( which is considered the forward hanger? one closer to the front of the car?

Yeah - the forward hangers are the mid-pipe hangers.

could have cut them off :)

so pull on mid pipe hangers, push on muffler hangers and tighten the nuts? that seems like it would make the muffler end closer. so u really need 3 ppl then. 1 on each hanger and one to tighten....

OK, try this first. Step by step:

1. Loosen the bolts on your RB s-pipe to rear section
2. Lay a rag over the top of exhaust tip to protect the paint on your tip cut-out
3. Push up on the s-pipe section while pulling down on the rear section (this will push the tip up against the cut-out - hence the rag). This is where having at least one extra set of hands helps out - but I did manage to do it solo.
4. Tighten the bolts up.
5. Check your clearances - it may take more than one try until it's in the perfect spot.

sweet, sounds good. i'll try that soon, hopefully tomorrow. i think i can borrow my bro for a few min. how much off a clearance do you have btwn the pipe and chassis where it goes above the subframe?

how does pushing up on the part that is almost touching going to increase the clearance? maybe it's something i have to see when i'm under it. it's ok to drive though as is for now? i have like a 1mm clearance so the start up shake makes it hit and it vibes most of the ride. just gotta turn the tunes up to ignore it

unless you plan to sell them you can cut them off w/ a utility knife. the midpipe ones are going to be the hardest. i am going to try to do what bala said and if that doesn't work i might try putting stuck ones back on the muffler while leaving kartboy on the mid and see what happens. or i may just leave it and deal w/ the noise. cd player ftw? :(

Today I have the car washed, it looks nice and makes me want to keep her *sigh*

anyways I got an estimate or hat paintless dent remover service and its at 150 per panel. Meaning 150 per door etc etc. and seeing as how i have dings on 3 doors and a rear quarter panel i dont think its worth the money....or just too damn pricey. I am going to try a auto body shop this afternoon for an estimate since I have some other issues I want adressed. Like multiple scratches and possibly repainting part of my rear bumper. anyways ill keep everyone informed it looks like i am keeping the p5 for atleast another year.

pull down at the connection of the pipe furthest away from the tip. You're going to be right there pushing up on the s-pipe and tightening bolts - be creative, you've got legs (stash)

yea i already thought of pulling with my leg lol. do i have to take off the hangers? i was thinking...if i left the hangers on and just pushed UP on the midpipe, the hangers would provide the resistance of an equivalent pull down.... ?

I'm hoping a lot of dish soap/WD40 and some muscle will be enough - it'll be easier if I can get the midpipe out of the way first but who knows. Ah sweet, I am seriously thinking about getting this thing... I just bough a full CS exhaust for the P5, thank God I am finally getting rid of this annoying MAM midpipe. Hopefully the small decrease in midpipe diameter will be offset by the increase in catback diameter. Oh, I'm going to need to get a bung welded in the first pipe as well... will any muffler/exhaust shop do this?

amsgator, I think this may help you out. I now have zero contact at any time.

yeap i appreciate the help!!! i tried but i cant get the bolts off. my friend tightened them and i only weigh like 150 and i just drag myself across the ground when i pull. lol. but i think i MAY have gotten a temp solution, i wont know til i go to work at 6. so hopefully it works. if it does i'll post pictures of my contraption quite interesting

EDIT: it didn't work. :( i'll try a couple more zip ties later and see if i can keep it from moving or not. i can get it to knock by using my hand to push so i am sure it will knock when starting up etc. hopefully i can get the entire engine mount kit soon, i think that will help by helping w/ the shaking from going down the exhaust

Well, it looks as though someone bumped me yesterday in the parking lot and took off... There are scratches on the front bumper on the passenger's side and it looks like something got bent underneath because the headlight is sticking out a little and it looks like the right front fender is pushed in a little. This really sucks - I mean I don't care about the scratched on the bumper cover - I was going to replace it with an MSP one eventually anyway but if something inside is bent that makes everything a bit more complicated...

My question is this: do I try to take off the cover and headlights and fix this myself or should I just take it to a bodyshop somewhere and have them align everything?

I got my RR-Racing front / rear motor mount inserts installed. OMG so awesome. Just a little vibration, but they made a big difference to how the car feels. Everything's just a little less 'sloppy'. Wheel hop's almost gone, as is driveline lash. The only time it really lashes a bit is low speed in parking lots, but even then it's MUCH more controlled. Highly recommended.

For the record, while their product is awesome, their customer service SUCKS BALLS. I had a problem w/ my order (I decided to order while every1 was on vacation apparntely), and it took way too long for me to get them.

What's your insurance deductable? If the repairs are less than your insurance co-pay then do it yourself.

If its more than, use your insurance company and let them pay for the MSP bumper and all the repairs.

Hit and run is a no fault accident and shouldn't mess with your rates.

When I hit the guardrail and took out a bunch of stuff on my car, it was considered a no-fault accident and my rates didn't change. Road conditions contributed to my accident.

Yeah, paintwise there is little damage which suggests the impact was almost dead-on so probably someone backed into me - hell for all I know this couldn't happened a few days ago since its been a while since I really looked at the front. I guess I wait until I get off work and look at it somemore - hopefully nothing truly bad happened and the panel is just pinned somewhere. I guess I'll just remove the bumper and take a look. Other than that, I'll have to ask my dad or someone else with more experience with dealing with insurance companies...

I don't know much about insurance companies but I have a hard time believing they would pay to have this fixed without any cost to myself. So if the repair cost is higher than my deductable, the insurance company will pay for it???

All things considered, I would rather just have the current bumper and fender restored to their previous places if possible (there are no scratches on the fender so no rust, and the bumper is scratched up enough from daily driving that this doesn't really bother me). I've got plans in the future for the front end (MSP bumper, DG lip and grille) and I would rather do all of that at once instead of in stages...

Will do about the paint although there is no other paint on my bumper so I'm skeptical. I guess at this point my major concern is an insurance hike if have to use them and the deductable associated. Anyone here with State Farm know if hit-and-runs are considered zero-fault?

since you were parked it's not ur fault so the insurance shouldn't go up. if they try to hike it then there is a problem and something should be done about it (to them) b/c it's a zero fault accident (provided you were inside the lines i suppose)

Someone backed into my Civic at the Chapel Hill Mall in Akron a few months ago. The stupid ass left his car up against mine. He was beyond ghetto parked, and probably took up a total of 3 spots, including the spot my car was in. Bumping into a car is an accident...but leaving your car upagainst someone else's is just asking to have your drivers door kicked. I couldn't resist posting pictures here.

Looks great! I've got one on both Pro's. It blends right in with the silver, but with the blue, It stands out with the hood closed. I'm toying with painting the thin leading edge black ...

I know what you mean. I can see it with my hood closed. My hood and grill are painted the same color black so it looks like an oreo cookie on my car.
Take a black sharpie and paint the edge.

Mine panel isn't brushed its still smooth. I got it that way by choice. I'm about 90% sure I'm going to paint it black with blue mica and several coats of clear. It'll be the same paint that is on my valve cover, hood, roof, headlights, grills & rims.

That weatherstripping on the front of the hood is like sandpaper ... so just a word of caution. I'm sure you've seen the back cab of a pickup that had a shell with a compression boot on ... and what it did to the paint. The worst offender is the 2nd strip, I took it off leaving only the thick leading edge rubber. My diverter still needs to be polished on a regular basis (not that I have had the time to do it lol)

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to figure something out. I'm going to go sharpie the leading edge of mine right now so I don't have an oreo grill anymore. LOL

LOL

It took me longer to remember and find my sharpie than it did to color the plate. hahaha

I managed to pull out the ding mostly but in the process I left a little (very unnoticeable) crease in the fender where the top half refused to move. Today I remove the whole bumper cover, headlights and hopefully the fender so I can straighten things out... jusyt a couple of bent clips and mounting points - should't be too bad.

I exanged the PS belt for the right one and installed it. I still have a little squeak from my alternator/water pump belt. Looks like I will be replacing that as well, that one looks like its going to be a pain to replace. I might wait till I get a UDP to do that one.

Pulled the front bumper and right inner-fender liner to fix the small dent in the fender I had. It turned out better than I had hoped but there is still a small imperfection I can see. I also re-adjusted my oil return line as it was leaking (again!), tightened up some belts (again!) and torqued down the linkage connection to my short shifter (there was too much play in it). All in all a successful day although the leaking return line is a little disconcerning - I guess I'm going to have to teflon wrap the nipple on the oil pan to stop the leaking... next oil change, should have done this a long time ago...

On another note I'm getting a small oil leak out from underneath the oil cap. I know its torqued down enough, is it possible the little gasket inside the cap has gone bad? Do these come with an oil cap or is it something I can get seperately?

I got dynoed yesterday.
No files yet but

1st pull 70 hp (no lie)
2nd pull 90 hp / AND 169 tq (woot for mods)

Its an Auto so...

I wanted a "baseline" or before dyno to compare to after I get my cams in with my UDP and 626 mani along with some tuning via the MPI.
$50 for 2 pulls
Next time I'll try and take advantage of having a few fuel and timing maps ready to try out while their WBO2 is logging.

Well everything fixed yesterday only to find out I lost all illumination in all my gauges. They still work (eg give readings) but they just don't light up when I turn the lights on. Very random considering they were working the night before and the only thing I've done since is remove the front bumper cover. I checked all the bulbs and they all look fine so I don't know what happened...

EDIT: Aside from any loose electrical connections is there anything else this could be?

did you turn up the dimmer switch?

I never connected the lighting to the dimmer switch. The only lights that went outt were my Autometer gauges. The stock lighting is fine...

why is the hp so low and torque high?

something doesn't really add up there... those numbers are crazy low and crazy high...I think you may want to find a different dyno

70 whp? Hmm.

Ok, fixed the problem. Apparently I messed up a connection loose when I pulled the headlights yesterday - I have the gauges spliced into the parking lights and it was that connection was the culprit...

I think the problem on 1st pull was in 4th gear it was speed-governing.

The 2nd pull we did in 3rd.

I have CAI, OBX header, 2-1/4" exhaust with hi-flow cat and Ractive muffler.

Mechanic sed most of the I/H/E mods add more torque than hp.
Well, it's a start. I'd rather a conservative dyno than not anyway.

But 70hp? C'mon I could buy a lawnmower with more hp.

HAHAHA the mods add more torque?!
Ok, here's the deal. Manual tranny w/ MP3 ECU, SRI w/ K&N Cone, Ractive header and 03 MSP exhaust:

If it was like 120 lb/ft I probably wouldn't think anything, but 170? You're joking yourself. If those are the numbers you got, you need to find another dyno shop.

Torque converters generally multiply torque by 1.5 to 2.2 supposedly. This could be the reason you got such high torque numbers from your auto. Contrary to popular beliefs autos do have their advantages....they just lack a little bit of the fun factor and efficiency.

heres one of many articles I found on the subject.

Try a different dyno, then we'll talk. I don't believe for a second that an automatic will magically make the FSDE a damn torquey motor. The readings were so whacked out (70HP!?) that I have serious doubts.

I know - seems strange. I'll be throwing mine on the dyno at Tri-point early this summer once my OBX gets back from being re-coated. I'm hoping for around 110hp at the wheels (sigh) ...
