Car looks good Chris, you gunna keep her now or is she going on the block ? BTW, what the hell is your born that you are painting ??

So there are covers for those. I assumed, but never remembered to check. Sweet.

I took a bunch of pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/clauretano/FIXEDCAR

installed my summer hood, and stuff.. oh yeah, relocated the power steering cooler to behind the radiator bracket (didn't allow my intercooler to sit back farther.. gonna have to redo the hiboost brackets. Painted my born black again. Every spring it is very rusted, I sand it down, I paint it. It's getting old :P

Then I went to Sears to say "ugh yeah my jack broke.. there goes 100 dollars down the drain". .. they didn't carry the model I had (3 ton high-lift), but they had one that was just 10 dollars more.. they let me just process it as a return even though I bought it last August, had no receipt, and even though I handed them my sears card they couldn't look it up because it was so long ago. Oh and I returned it you know.. very, very used.

The new one is easily 2x the weight though. I actually had them bring it to my car haha wtf why was my other one so light (only like 50 pounds).. this new one is wild.

Lol, yeah the interior. It still smells like smoke a little but they replaced the entire carpet and had to do a full detailing job on the interior and they threw in a exterior detailing job for me too. Although they told me it would take 2 days and it took a week, they did a great job.

Almost got the P5 put back together from a IM port and polish w/VTCS removal, thermal spacer, a custome EGR tube, and new OBX headers. But after we put it back together and tested it out... VACCUME LEAK!!! Pluss I have to adjust the throttle cable that some how got messed up from the project. So now after finally getting it put back together again after two weeks I haft to now take it all apart again to fix the vaccume leak. (pissed)

I changed my oil (goodbye forever royal purple, you lied to me and said you were a synthetic but you're just some hydrocracked garbage).. my magnetic oil drain plug picked up some stuff o_O eep.

Then I went to check on my spark plugs, pulled the #3 spark plug wire to inspect it, and the boot ripped off and is stuck in the hole, so I can't get the plug out or really put the spark plug wire back on.. I pushed the plug wire back on, it still clicked, but start up the car and she's misfiring.. then I went to the mall and dropped ridiculous amounts of money on shit because I felt like I should get myself stuff on my birthday.. the more miles I put on the car in this state the more difficult it is to drive.. Did the rounds calling 10+ auto parts stores, no one has or can order spark plug wires for the Protege5... uggh. Oh well, I said I'd do the 1.8 coil pack conversion when I needed new wires, and at over 80k miles I'm probably going to need new coil packs soon anyway. Time for conversion :)

I just hope the car remains driveable (right now I gotta rev high to launch, go really light on the throttle, and shift before 5k RPMs to prevent it from misfiring. I managed to drive maybe 40 miles without triggering a CEL so I guess It'll be ok until.. wednesday-ish which is probably the earliest I can source plugs, plug wires, and coils.

jeeze hurry up guys. so slow!

I have the shopping carts open and ready to buy new plugs, plug wires, and coil packs. I decided to forego the 1.8 coil pack conversion because it doesn't seem worth it. They're within ~$7USD of each other.. wires and coils are cheaper for the 2.0.. plus then I don't have to tear open that section of the wiring harness to relocate the coil wiring. I doubt there's any discernible difference between the performance of the standard 2.0 coils and the 1.8 coils. I figure there must be a reason why Mazda went to the 2.0 setup. Perhaps it was just the cost savings of 2 wires vs 4.. but it's cheaper for me to replace that way too, so I don't mind :)

had a horrible weekend. was doing my lsd install. had a few hiccups taking the tranny out, dealt with that. pressed the bearings on the diff, that was fine until i picked up the diff 30min. later and both bearings fell apart..... has anyone ever heard of that happening? the cage that holds the bearing in isn't bent or anything. the fitting i used to press them on was the perfect size(pressure was places on the inside sleave of the bearing). i'm totally lost for an explenation of why that happened. why didn't it fall apart when i was inspecting it immediately after they were pressed on? now my car will be down for most of the week and i've got to put up with an old peice of shit corolla, 50hp FTL:(

Got everything done and back together - total time about 10 -12 hours including the removal and reassembly of the interior. Only thing left is test drive it.

*Update - Test drove the car and it definitely made a difference. Our roads have a lot of breaks from winter so you get alot of suspension noise. Now you feel the bumps and not the noise, its really muffled, awesome. I actually have the radio turned down too , it was ok before but its an improvement, for sure, worth all the work.

- NGK ZFR7F-11 plugs (will likely need to regap them, because I think the gap needs to be a little smaller)

Good job (rockon)Are you considering doing the doors?

Nope. I personally do not want to ruin the factory sealing on the doors but I feel door hinges have a difficult time as it is holding up such heavy doors so the added weight would just wear them out even quicker and it would not a be huge improvement. Most road noise is generated from it bouncing off the bottom of the car and after an hour drive in the car its really quiet. It just seems a bit better, by no means was it bad before. It's nice to have the car back together especially since it still new to me. I will finish off the trunk area however.

The funny thing was driving around for a couple of weeks with no interior just how cold or hot the floor gets so I think acoustically it will help but maybe it will stay cooler or warmer from the install too, who knows.

gravel, ugh... no way in hell i'm risking chipping yet more paint off my beautiful racing harts, especially when they're ~$200 a piece to repaint. i'm waiting until they sweep the streets, and it's supposed to go down to something like -20C overnight the next couple nights. cold temps + high performance summer rubber = a squirrelly drive in to work (until the tires warm up)..

plus, it's alberta/canada so there's still a good chance for snow in the next few weeks, much as i hate to admit it, and the fk-451's do NOT like the white stuff... (headshake they kind of take after me when it comes to that

If I'm out around my parents' house, I get around 34 mpg because all the highways are 55, and everyone does that. But around Akron, I get 30-31 because 65 is just a suggestion. 80 will still get you passed.

I'm sure others have faster average highway speeds, but that's how it is in NE Ohio.

Yeah, I do about the same. I used to go 200 miles per half tank in my Civic, so the first time i hit 230ish on a half tank in the P5 i was stoked. Then I relized that the P5's tank is about 2.5 gallons bigger than the Civic's, and I wasn't so excited. Now that I did the engine swap, I get less than that...

Yeah, ATX sux for mileage. IIRC the most miles I got on one tank was 330ish. I usually fill it up when the light comes on which has been around 270 miles or so and 11.5 to 12.5 gallons to fill.

If you take my right foot out of the equation it would be so much better! lol

Today I had a break between two labs so I ran home, unbolted my struts, and dropped the struts and lower control arms.. installed a bushing stopper that had fallen out on the driver's side, and finally rotated the strut tops so that the dots were in the right place. I probably need an alignment again now, but since I'm getting new springs again anyway I'll just get it after that.

I also added a nut to my front motor mount.. one was missing?? I don't remember if I forgot to put it on after the turbo install or what.

well, i got it driving home on the freeway and as you can see it's currently snowing (about -5C right now which i think is around 20-25F), so i doubt any tape will stick to it. i do plan to take it to the windshield shop i normally go to, but that probably won't happen until tomorrow or weds and if not then, next week sometime (out of town for easter). just pisses me off! i'm bound to get more chips before they clean the streets later this spring *sigh*

yes and no. glass coverage is included, with an extra deductible for the windshield. the only problem is that the deductible for the windshield is pretty much what it costs to replace it so why bother? i don't want my rates going up whenever i make a claim for a new windshield.

Well before I turboed my car I raced and beat a blue civic si coupe with a catback and intake and kicked ass (it was close but the lack of torque really hurt the civic in the end) :)

that was with: Protege MP3 ECU (there's no ECU flash for us really, but the MP3 ECU advances the timing, requiring premium fuel, and really dramatically smooths out and gives a nice bump to the powerband), lightweight underdrive pulley, JDM intake cam, header, catted midpipe, catback exhaust, cold air intake :)

A cf hood with the sides painted would look really nice on your P5.. the black/white theme is almost as cool as the silver/black/gunmetal theme :D
That's the look I'm going for. :D

Being a current Civic owner with a B-series engine, similar to your Si (but a little bigger), I can say that the lack of low end torque from those little screamers give the P5 a nice little advantage. A big difference I noticed is that with the Civic, the car pulls to 8200 rpm without thinking twice, and my P5 tends to fall on its face over 5500. Before anyone says it, I know the stock exhaust manifold and exhaust on my P5 doesn't help that situation. I will say though, I have ALOT more fun driving the P5 thru twisties than I ever did driving my Civic. My Civic is alot quicker than my P5 due to everythign that I've done to it, but just doesn't have the handling.

Oh, don't worry...I have plans for it... I wouldn't mind building a P5-T. I finally got my student loans straightened out so I'm not spending $700 per month in payments. Mods will begin to come soon. So far, all I have is the Kartboy short shifter and bushings in it.

I do have a few pictures. Unfortunately, photobucket is blocked here at work. I'll attach what I have here now, then what's on photobucket later today. It's a complete abomination of a car. It began life as a standard 530i, then it recieved a 3.3L euro motor and a 5 speed, as well as better springs, bilstein shocks, a Zender body kit, and as of last weekend, a set of BBS wheels. It needs some serious body work, but it runs.

Here's a pic of our last BMW gathering, with 4 of us in the bed.

My 2002 began as that. I got it for the cost of the title work. Solid car...it just has an automatic in it currently. I have a lot of parts for my dad's 320i at my disposal...but nothing ever became of it. Perhaps now that I have time to work on it, it may get there...

The 2002 needs a bit of work, but that doesn't scare me. The car is solid.

That truck should be fun on the street though. When placed on the individual wheel scales, it weighed in at...
