your worst nightmare. Well maybe if your car is low mileage enough, the dash won't rattle so badly that it feels like it's falling apart.
it already does that. Plus, I'm not getting a 'soild' mount, both just inserts. I've riddent in a MSP that had the same setup I'm getting. I can live w/ it if it gets rid of a bit of wheel hot and drive lash

Kansei

hey Chris, have you heard anything about the SU mounts?

The only thing I've heard is the stuff in this thread with people saying the SLS has less vibrations even though it's definitely stiffer rubber.

I just changed out my rotorson all four corners with cross drilled, painted red to match the callipers. Also replaced the pads while i was in there, and gave the calipers and braking system a good blast of brake cleaner. Overall the braking is MUCH better. Furthermore i tightened up my E-brake, cuz i was having to pull it all the way up, about 10+ clicks before it would engage, now it only takes 3 clicks to be fully engaged. So now i have the Wheels and the brakes done, Now for the eibachs and the illuminas..........I will post pics later on today.(thinkbeer

I think the rubber bushing would be torn or deteriorated.

Cool, I'd like to know if it makes a difference.

it makes a VERY little difference (now granted i didnt have the time to aim them at all, so theyre still a lil too low) but light out put is much better, but im also using higher temperature bulbs.

but as JoshP5 said, they suck a little less than before.

i have to get a new PS fog light, i took a rock through it and the lens is full of dirt and crap. luckily insurance is paying for it.....BUT, i might just buy the CATZ lights i found on ebay since i have the money for them now...hmmmm

how easy is it to install the CATZ lights? and have them come on with the parking lights as well?

how much hp at the crank you think?

Sveivo

IIRC, your exhaust mods will make you lose some low-end and will add top-end. Can someone second this?

aMaff
03-26-2007, 11:42 PM
different areas is normal. Different mods do different things. And who cares what you make at the crank? The crank only turns the tranny, diff, and wheels all of which tend to 'syphon' off some of that power (along with parasitic losses from engine accessories: alternator, oil pump, water pump, etc).

Crank HP is pretty much useless. To know what your CAR as a whole is making, you want wheel HP (preferably on a wheel dyno so it takes into account the weight of the wheels and tires)

FrolessWonder
03-26-2007, 11:53 PM
I painted all of my badges black, bought roof rack filler caps, decided to smoke the turnsignal/reverse light on my tails, and am now deciding whether to buy my HIDS or not. I also washed her, and took some pictures. I want those DDE's as well. Dammit i need a better job.

i know that i am j/c so I can get a rough guestimate when looking at other cars engine specs since it only give crank hp. so now, anyone got an est of crank? :-\

EDIT: and yes i know each car loses a different amount b4 gettin to the wheels but thats why i said rough. j/c

figure about 15-20% driveline loss so with an assumed 115 whp, from 132.25 to 138 at the crank

a p5 all stock gets 130 at the crank, there is no way all three of those only added 2.25-8hp... it gets about 98 whp stock so how could it add more whp than hp? :(

Kansei
03-27-2007, 08:19 AM
Theoretically the P5 gets 130 at the crank.. I don't think anyone has checked it, and we all know Mazda has been a bit optimisic in the past on HP figures :P

Salmon_Rob
03-27-2007, 08:22 AM
because mazda used the old sae measurement, which is an inflated number. remember when there was the rx8 hp scandal? same time as the p5 came out. it wasnt over rated, it was just before the 2005 revamp of the definition of the horsepower standard

Kansei
03-27-2007, 08:32 AM
Old SAE measurement or not, there are plenty of cars from the same era as our cars that dyno more WHP with the same BHP. It's sad that 130hp is an inflated number :P

Salmon_Rob
03-27-2007, 08:51 AM
the first gen dynos around 115-120 and its rated at 125 hp ;)

amsgator

Pollen FTL! And when did this thread go XXX-rated? hahaha

Checked my tread wear while waiting for my daughter's dance class to end. 8/32nds up front and 9/32nds in back. Woot for even wearing tires, even the wear on the outsides of the front tires is consistent. Gotta try to stop taking the turns so hard and fast....nah. according to kbb.com my trade in value on my car is $7,775. I'd do better just selling it myself as it sits. Private party value = $9,525

chris, if they will - or let me work out a deal on it - i have no problem selling you the 'old' one. just don't forget, it's not sealed properly so condensation is getting inside. buuuut, i have a feeling they won't let me since it's a 'warranty' issue and they'll probably have to return the defective one to Mazda Canada.

btw, please don't look at selling your beautiful P5... i know she's been through the ringer, but you will regret getting rid of her. it'll come out ok in the end.

Mount the intake mani and OBX with a few bolts just barely threaded in, line up/thread the EGR fittings and then snug the header and intake mani down. Go back and tighten everything to spec.

yep, what Patrick said... there's no way you'll be able to properly attach and tighten the egr to the header (note the singular :) ) if you've got the header bolted down snug. just hang it on the bolts so you can move it around as needed, attach and tighten the egr, and then tighten everything else.

Here's the difference:
Ractive: Long runner 4-1 equal length header
http://i2.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/91/b4/42ba_1.JPG

Thunder / OBX (not exactly the same, but close enough. My money's on the OBX being better)
Short runer, 4-1, unequal length.
http://www.msprotege.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=102949

If you want to get a header for the sake of getting a header, by all means, get an OBX / Thunder / whatever. Will you see a performance increase? I have no doubt. If you want to get a header for performance gains, get the Ractive. If you question the fitment, get one used that you know fits and will already have the bung welded. Or get the racing mazda or (if you're rollin in green) the AWR (if they still have some in stock. Last I heard the last 1 had been sold). Same principles apply. If I had my choice, I'd go w/ AWR.

Then again, that's just my .02, what do I know? lol

Wow, that's some major gains. To be exact, I can only spin 1 tire due to the lack of an LSD :D

I never said you'd get NO performance gain. In fact I said exactly the opposite. However, the equal length long runner headers will all give MORE. Don't get me wrong, ANYTHING is better than breathing through that cast manifold and 50lbs pre-cat.

I wasn't questioning what you were saying at all, I was just saying that it seemed like an impressive bump that was realized by being able to spin the tire(s) :D

PS: I want to get a header now :(

Sorry, not you Dim. That was in reply to Stealthy's post as it seemed to infer that I had said that you would not see any gains from the short runner headers.

On that note, I'm gonna hit the hay so I have a better chance of not wrapping the P5 around a tree when I drive to work tomo...er...today. How's that for helping out your car ;)

what kinda shape are the lens's in?

driver's side lens is in perfect shape. Passenger's side lens has a small (about the size of a dime) spot on the outermost corner of the lens (where the amber corners would be on the sedan headlights but are black on the p5) where some of the adhesive got on the lens and I didn't see it when I put the headlight assembly back together. It's out of the way and doesn't affect the light output at all. I'll get pics tonight for the FS thread

Today, I saw my car, and it is as stripped down as it was the first time I saw it after the accident. hood, bumper, fenders, and front doors removed o_O

The owner of the shop (I have his personal car right now) said it would be done tomorrow morning sometime before noon. I don't know if that includes the hood latch and other parts they forgot though. I know the latch has been ordered at least. I should probably bring them the CF hood early tomorrow morning and just have them put the freshly painted hood in my trunk and mount the CF one.

I guess they also fiddled with the intercooler piping and have it so that they think it'll fit better I told him not to bother with that stuff if it gives them any more problems as I'll be getting all of the intercooler piping remade soon (as soon as my friend with a welder isn't busy with so many other projects) so I'll have it all apart again anyway.

Sweet man... I hope it works out MUCH better this time. It sounds like you have pretty good collateral!

Kansei
03-29-2007, 03:05 PM
Yeah it's decent collateral.. it has heated leather memory seats with power bolster and lumbar, 12 disc changer, big ol gas-sucking engine, etc.. but it's a GM, so of course everything is wildly plastic.

The owner is stuck driving his bright red classic camaro SS until he gives me my car back.. and I think it might rain tomorrow bwahaha. Plus he is going to the Amerks (Rochester Americans.. hockey team) game tomorrow night and doesn't want to park his camaro downtown :P

Funny how it took them over two weeks to do it the first time, and this time they are doing it better in 2 days :)

This time they don't have to wait for a replacement parts though. Plus - you gotta figure they have other cars they are trying to work on too...some poor schmuck is going to have to wait two extra days because they had to redo your car and didn't work on their car(not your fault though).

Actually they did have to order parts again.. new hood latch, a bunch of plastic fasteners that I found they "forgot" to replace.. but it probably won't take as long as the canadian headlight and other weird things did.

I fail to see the logic here. Resetting the ECU just masks the problem. How did this help? You may as well have stuck tape over the light, but if you did that you still would have been able to take it to a shop to get the code read. NEVER clear a light before getting the code read (no)

I hope I'm still getting my P5 back tomorrow.. I was there at about 10:30, talked to the guys, everything was going great.. even got to pet a little doggy there (a yorkshire terrier, I miss mine :( ). He said to call tomorrow morning sometime around 10 and I should be able to come pick the car up.

I just got back on my desktop computer (was using my laptop this evening) and I got an instant message apparently from someone at the body shop.

(names hidden to protect the innocent)

(14:24:09) ** body shop guy **:HI THIS IS B---- FROM VOGELS COLLISION
(14:24:09) **me** : sleep. class 8-10, then going to the body shop, then off to work.
(14:24:35) ** body shop guy **: PLEASE GIVE US A CALL ABOUT THE MAZDA THANK YOU

1, that's kinda a scary message to get via IM.
2, what the heck is going on with my car?
3, who are you and how do you know my screenname? I didn't even know that anyone named B---- worked there, I figured I had met everyone by now. I know he's not the guy who did my body work, or the owner, or the owner's brother or son or wife.. maybe the paint guy?
4, why didn't someone just call me, wouldn't that have been easier? If I saw a phone call coming from a Rochester area code I would have answered even though I was at work... weird! I hope nothing is wrong with my baby!

So there are covers for those. I assumed, but never remembered to check. Sweet.

I took a bunch of pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/clauretano/FIXEDCAR

installed my summer hood, and stuff.. oh yeah, relocated the power steering cooler to behind the radiator bracket (didn't allow my intercooler to sit back farther.. gonna have to redo the hiboost brackets. Painted my horn black again. Every spring it is very rusted, I sand it down, I paint it. It's getting old :P

Then I went to Sears to say "ugh yeah my jack broke.. there goes 100 dollars down the drain". .. they didn't carry the model I had (3 ton high-lift), but they had one that was just 10 dollars more.. they let me just process it as a return even though I bought it last August, had no receipt, and even though I handed them my sears card they couldn't look it up because it was so long ago. Oh and I returned it you know.. very, very used.

The new one is easily 2x the weight though. I actually had them bring it to my car haha wtf why was my other one so light (only like 50 pounds).. this new one is wild.
