I shoveled the whole driveway *ow my back hurts, that snow was crazy heavy* and then went grocery shopping with my roommates.
I think I'm missing one of my lower control arm bushings on the driver's side. It clunks every time I transition from accelerating to decerating or vice-versa. I had to drop the lower control arms to pull my tranny during the turbo install because my axles wouldn't budge.. and I think I may have missed a bushing or something when putting it back together. Hopefully it warms up soon so I can get under the car and check things out!

i think i need a new clutch. my car is still making that noise after the stupid butterfly fell off inside the intake manifold, I thought that was the problem, but it's still making the grind/spooling noise, and everyone I talked with said they thing it's the throwout bearing.
Well if I get a new clutch, should I just get an OEM replacement like this (http://tinyurl.com/2cyxpg) or would the Spec Clutch Kit Stage 1 (http://tinyurl.com/239tb2) be ok?

? haven't heard of these before. who makes them? links?
well, went to get the headlight covers put on at lunch - finally - but when i got to the shop i found out that the vht eyelids had peeled and chipped!!!! argh!!!!!! don't know if it happened when washing the car after work yesterday (it was pretty chilly) or what. pisses me off :( so i couldn't get the vinyl put on the headlights today. trying to touch up the small spots on the eyelids, while the headlights are on the car, will be too much of a bitch to do - hence the reason i did the eyelids before i put the new headlights on the car.
luckily, the shop has some very dark tinted vinyl that will work - i'll just match the shape of the eyelid and use the vinyl to cover the whole thing, then the clear over the whole headlight to prevent more, you guessed it, chips!
oh, and got two nice chips in the windshield while driving at lunch today. (eek2) i'll have to go by the windshield shop to see if they need to be filled in so they don't spread. should've just stayed at work for lunch today :(

I replaced my front a few K miles ago, now the rear is shot. Probably it was shot before, but since then it's been getting all the movement and really threw in the towel.
If you don't do them both, you'll have to do the rear soon after the front.

You can aim them by loosening their mounting bolts. You can also bend the little shield that covers the top half of the bulb to alter the beam pattern "cutoff." But no matter what you do with the stock fogs, they still suck. Aftermarket FTW!

I just undo the front part of the splash guards (like 4 screws) bend back to get to the rear of the lights. Then there are three (10mm?) nuts that hold the fogs in the bucket. Undo the wiring plug and pull out the light. I can change both light bulbs out in under 20 minutes.

I bought, soldered the wiring harness, and installed my new Pioneer Premier DEH P880PRS today :)
turns out my alpine was still fine though.. there was a fuse somewhere.. must have been loose or something? but maybe there was a bad fuse, I didn't notice and just relocated it for some reason because now my rear wiper doesn't work haha.

I did the speaker timing and eq testing today.. so fun!
steps:
push the button, faceplate tilts down to expose microphone jack, plug in microphone and strap to the center of the driver's headrest. push the start button, the 10 second countdown timer starts. quickly get out of the car, close the door, etc (all windows need to be closed, anything obstructing the speakers (like a box on the floor in front of the passenger seat) removed).
then for 6-10 minutes you hear all sorts of fun testing noises coming individually from each speaker (I only run two front door speakers (with factory tweeters) and the subwoofer), changing in volume, pitch, etc. it even tests and tunes the subwoofer.
I checked the settings after it finished and it looks like it was quite accurate.. it told me the distance from my head to each speaker.. lotta fun :)

I think you can get an ipod cable? (dunno)
I know you can get a dvd player, tv tuner, sirius, xm, etc for it. I'm considering getting sirius.. I had XM with my alpine and I just absolutely couldn't stand the programming.. for modern rock / indie it just totally sucks (puke)
I know it's certified to play protected apple AAC files from itunes burned to CD. it does WMA and MP3 too of course. I need to see if it can play apple lossless or somethin.. not that it would be useful, would only be able to get 2 cds onto one if the compression is around the same as FLAC (it is).
Today I did something amazing.. HAND WASHED MY CAR :D :D :D (naughty)
I don't think I personally hand washed the car since October/November.. of course it has been washed plenty of times since then, but only at touchless car washes with their uber awesome crazy harsh chemicals.
My front bumper and hood still don't match the rest of the car at all. My passenger side rear fender rust is now no longer contained on the fender lip, it has bubbled the paint on the fender.. again, right where Modern Mazda did a craptastic job fixing it.
Oh and I put my summer wheels on. WOW um.. I never noticed my summer wheels making the car that much slower, but they do now (dunno)
sure do look purdy though. My Potenza RE750s have a ton of tread left on them too, coming from Ecsta MXs it's weird to have tires last more than 6 months haha.
Oh and I went in my car to go back to work and o_O my door speakers weren't working again. I pulled a bunch of fuses, and some weird fuse was blown.. don't remember exactly which one. NOT the Radio fuse, not the Room fuse, and definitely not the A/C fuse (I have both A/C fuses out). I dunno, it's weird. It's working now though?

Fixed my wiring AGAIN today. I'm so relieved that I actually found the true source of the problem. When the body shop reassembled my interior door panel (they had to take them off to paint) they pinched the wires to the tweeter on the driver's side. The moment I pulled the sail panel off the music came back (yaaaaay).
I'm still out the $540 dollars though, but at least the new radio is schnazzy :D
.. I've spent about an hour on the phone with my mom today persuading her to visit the Mazda dealership.. she was at the Nissan dealership looking at a 350z and I was like "zomg no!".. I'm really, really trying to get her into a Mazdaspeed6 or just a Mazda6 hatch grand touring. She got to the Mazda dealership but then it started raining hard.. but they had a 6 hatch in the showroom in some new really bright blue color, with the 18" optional wheels.. she said she really likes the hatchback model.. she's gonna go drive it tomorrow and see if she likes it. I suggested driving the 4cyl model instead of the v6 so she can see if it has enough pep for her.

When I had my Civic in for repair of the drivers side fender and door, they took the panel off of the drivers door to work on the dent. Renobs put all the wires for my Infinity Kappa components into one wire nut. Obviously they went into body work because electricity was so promising for them...

So your mom originally wanted a hardcore sports car and you got her hyped about a midsize wagon? Dude, you have amazing powers of persuasion.
Kansei
03-23-2007, 12:25 AM
The 350z isn't a hardcore sports car.. it's an entry level sports car with a really shitty quality interior, horrible visibility, and no functionality more than anything.
I was actually trying to convince her to get the 3 instead of the 6 but she said the steering was way too light on the 3 and it had bad rear visibility (she test drove a 3 GT sedan). I'm a firm believer that no one needs anything more than a Mazda3 for just normal transportation (anything aside from track usage). Her altima is soooo large and she's usually alone in the car aside from when she volunteers driving elderly people to hospitals and stuff.. she gets friggin 16mpg in her altima (premium fuel) makes me sick.
I want her to get the Mazdaspeed6 if she can still find an 06 model on dealer lots to get that awesome rebate on them.. but no dealerships in CT have an 06 still (bang)
Plus she said she really likes the hatch opening on the 6 :)

This bar doesnt get the clunk thing right?
How is the install? any pics?

I'm not sure if this bar gets the clunk or not. I only took it for a short drive last night after I put the bar on. No clunk there but it was a pretty short drive. I didn't even break out the camera. Install was cake. Total time: Probably 2 hours. That is: Half hour trying to break the end link bolts loose. 1 hr 20min waiting for teh FedEx guy to drop it off. 10 min to reinstall. I do have to say, turn in is pretty quick and planted. There is a pretty nice corner up the road from me out in the country. 35 mph sign on it. I took it at about 68 or so and could have given it more. Handles nice.
On a side note, out in the garage right now installing the rotors I got from Josh this morning. Just need some new struts and I am good to go.
P.S. Chris, step back and breathe for a few minutes. If I was you I would try to get the hood taken care of. Aside from that, just drive her man........you got way too much time and money and love into her to just dump her now. It not ever going to be a Riddler award winning show car is it ? had an appointment this morning to have the clear film finally put on my new headlights. (it's too cold outside still to put them on at home, has to be done in a heated shop)
so, we quickly wash off the car (melting snow and dirty roads +1, morrigan -1) and after doing so i notice a LOT of condensation inside the passenger side headlight.
MY BRAND NEW HEADLIGHT THAT HAS ONLY BEEN ON THE CAR FOR 500 KM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The condensation covers the inside of the lens all the way to the high beam light. Luckily I had my camera with me so I could take pictures of the problem, but now I have to wait for the dealershit to call me back on Monday (have to check with a manager grrrr) to see if they'll give me a new one as it's obviously a factory flaw.

lol yea... look on the bright side buddy... at least you didn't have to pull your motor :D
The transmission bolts don't fit through the engine stand brackets. And to drill those out requires a 1/2" drive drill, which I don't have. So it'll have to wait. But yea. That little freaking tee that is broke in the block looks 1000x worse up close (pissed)
I guess I'll just start cleaning the engine bay and working on the wiring! Tomorrow, of course :)

You'll be fine. A header alone isn't going to give you enough HP to matter. A header, an intake and an exhaust aren't going to give you enough HP for it to matter if you've got upgraded motormounts. Put in the header, drive the piss out of it, have fun. :D

You won't get wheel hop any more or less than you do right now. The header doesn't change that :)
Just pick up an SLS front motor mount when you gots the cash :D
Edit: today I went out to my car , started it up, let it warm up.. was going to change the oil, but my craftsman jack broke >_< lifetime warranty should fix that up, don't really feel like carrying the jack into the store though haha I'll just stick it in my trunk and tell them they can come out to the car to inspect it if they want.
Edit: My plans for today include changing my oil, inspecting my spark plugs (they've only been in for 1500 miles but I dunno if they are cold enough for the boost level I'm running), and repainting my front calipers to match the rears (rear are gloss black, front is matte black and it kinda looks dumb).
So far I took of the fscking unauthorized license plate frame the shop put on my car.. (encourage. To put their crap frame on they removed the adhesive that was holding the bottom of my plate on to prevent it from rattling, and also had to use longer bolts... bolts which dug through the paint on the car beneath the bracket >_< >_<
why oh why do people feel the need to ruin my car?! (yupnope)

No, I don't. I had the SU front and rear mounts, but I had never installed the rear one. I got enough vibration out of the front one do steer me totally away from adding the rear one. Worst thing for me is that I have an auto and even with the soft SU mount it shook bad enough for me to remove it. I decided to give the SLS one a shot after hearing Kansei talk about his.I don't know what they do different with theirs but, it is sweet. I would for sure recommend it to anyone who has too much vibration with their other mounts. Plus, the price is awesome.

I had the 90 duro AWR front and rear mount (rear never installed). The vibration wasn't at all bad and hardly notiable at first. It was like my friends Sentra tha was highmilage and you could feel it in the seats slightly. However beings that the rear mount is now shot I can tell! Really ! Wow, my Street Unit mount drove me nuts. I can't believe the 90 AWR didn't rattle out your fillings. That brings me to a question I guess. Would the vibrations be worse with only the front or with both front and rear installed ? Maybe I should be sorry I didn't install both of my SU mounts ?....... Oh well, the SLS one is pretty nice too.

It's just a different design. Neither the SLS or the AWR looks just like the stock mount. It's a 20-30 minute install, you don't even jack the car up to do it. Steps: unbolt two 17mm nuts underneath the mount.. look under the car or feel around to find them, don't jack up the car it'll put a load on that mount. When you have them off, take the bolt out of the middle of the stock mount (17mm as well I think). Now put the SLS mount in, stick the bolt through the middle, then stick the two included bolts down through the holes in the mount and chassis, and thread the nuts on from underneath. Tighten everything down and you're all set :)

Would you recommend removing the bolt that goes through the middle of the mount from underneath or by going through the engine bay?

The metal "holder" that has the bushing in it gets replaced, since this is a complete front mount and not just an insert.
I got some inserts a while back and still waiting for a nice day to put the front one in.

My understanding is that the black part on the SLS mount does the same thing as the gold part on the AWR mount. It is designed differently, but it does the same thing. Once you get under there, you'll see that either of these will work.

FIRST, locate the mount in the engine bay so that you have an idea where it is (take off the top part of the stock intake if you have it).
As far as the bottom two bolts, you'll be able to see them easily--just look under the front bumper. They will be looking right at you :)

Well I finally found out why my left rear tire was always underinflated - two screws have inbedded themselves into the tire. So now I need to go find out if it can be repaired...
On another note I also found out that my tires have been rubbing the inside fender lining in the rear - it looks like too much offset. Anyone else here run into this problem with MSP wheels and Tein S-Tech's?

hard to see in amber? you sure you aren't using it in red (neither the orange or white wires hooked up puts it in red mode)? right now I'm doing red all the time and yeah.. you can't at all see it during the day. Barely noticable with an auto trans. I would imagine a manual would be even better since you can push in the clutch and take the load off. When I had my SU front mount and I was stopped at a traffic light I would throw it into neutral just to try to cut down on my dashboard rattling apart. My buddy that I carpool with that is by no means a "car guy" could not even tell that there was a difference in the mounts. It's that good. Don't get me wrong, the AWR and the SU mounts both are very nice, but you got vibrations with em. The SLS is virtually un-noticable.
