20 looks really nice... if that's barely darker than legal, I say go for it :P I went with 30% on the sides and 20% on the hatch window and moonroof.. 30% is just a little darker than legal in CT, but it is slight so I haven't had any trouble.. I've been tinted for nearly 3 years

I did something like that coming down a mountain in flagstaff but I some how managed to hold on and did a sweet drift around two turns, then the brake fade set in bad and I had to granny it down the rest of the way. rednecks-r-us was watching it in his rear view (damn that mofo is fast) It was so scary and fun at the same time made me want to look in to a rwd conversion to do some real drifting. :D

But I think I'll just get a 240

I remember that. It looked cool to see a P5 drifting a corner in my mirror.

Indeed. Damn...my car is so clean and I too have to go drive later in this crap.

Side note: Test drove another RX-8. Was very nice except for the miles and the 2nd owner only had it for 2 months (10K miles) and must have abused it because the rear tires are bald and were new when he/she bought it. Other issues so I walked away. So sad.

Are you kidding me? I've seen more cars in FL with black out/mirrored windows than anywhere, ever. I really don't think the cops care about that stuff down there. For the record, this is when used to live in Cocoa Beach and Tallahassee.

Here is my car, it's 20% all the way around. I got it done in West Palm Beach last summer.

5% tint sucks ass, you can't see shit.

20% is more than enough in my opinion, anything darker and it becomes unsafe at night. I'll be honest, sometimes I have trouble looking out my windows at night in a place that is not well lit. Compared to my sister's car, she's got 30% all the way around.

Because a 30% film plus the tint of the glass from the factory is probably just about 28%

I'd considered tint when I first got my car, but there's a small problem with it here. It's illegal to tint forward of the B-pillar. Having the sides contrasting like that doesn't look too great imho, so I've just kept it untinted all around.

Edit: Haha! Couple tries, but you made it through... Woo! :D

yup, the stock p5 wheels in the winter. I'm on goldline springs, don't get them.. they are atrocious. They are progressive all around, so over small bumps, my Tokico HPs are overdampening, but at the limit, it's the opposite.

MyZmZm

that's what i thought, the stockers. how low do the goldlines drop you?

Kansei

low.. I think they are supposed to be 1.75 inches all around, but they lowered the rear more than 2 inches.. I don't think they actually make different springs for the rear of the P5.

The inevitable issue of speaking via the internet, there simply is no way to see expression or demeanor of a conversation. Resulting into harsh words exchanged back and forth, and others contributing tidbits of information that only they and the party they are speaking to are aware of. Peace...Love...and Happiness to all.

Back on topic....the huge Nor'easter layed down a hefty .25 inch of snow yesterday on Cape Cod. I believe that brings us to a grand total of 1 inch of snow for the season, non of which in my area has lasted for more than 1 day as it all just melts away. (wimper)

When I first put it in I felt like I was learning to drive stick all over again. for the 1st 500 miles I felt like I was driving miss daisey. Now that its broke in holy cow I love it. The car revs quicker with the new flywheel and the ACT puts the car in the next gear quickly. This combination really makes my short shifter come alive. I'm lovin it (no relation expressed or implied to McDonalds)

The Fidanza Mazda aluminum flywheel is made of 6061T-6 aluminum weighting in at only 7 1/2 pounds. This material is fantastic for strength, heat dissipation and of course reduction in weight. The friction surface used is an incredibly strong 1050 steel. The plates are milled to meet high specifications. A Fidanza flywheel can mate with any type of clutch material, including organic, kevlar, ceramic, metallic and sintered iron. The friction surface is attached with military grade aerospace fasteners. The ring gears used are also made from 1050 steel and are heat treated for durability. The gears are heated then pressed on and secured with grade 8 button screws

There's only a slight difference and it's because there is less rotating mass and hense less rotating intertial momentum to keep the flywheel rotating without input from the engine. Because of this, you have to keep on the throttle moreso than you would with the heavier, stock flywheel.

great, thanks for the feedback bill! (first) i'm not getting a true lightweight flywheel; i'm getting the stock one lightened by (hopefully) about 5lbs which i think will be just about perfect for the benefits/disadvantages of the lighter flywheels.

Yup was glad I did, very tired. Avg speed was about 40mph. Lots of cars off the road, whiteouts, car handled it all well. Only bad point was I hit a curb in Bangor driving around and ruined a tire. Noticed a nice bubble when I got home. Another winter tire ruined.

Drive back today was fine, no issues, made it to Boston in just under 4 hours. Heavy crosswinds. Had to hack off tons of ice and snow this morning before we left.

So after 2 hours of trying to loosen two exhaust bolts , I went to a local shop and was planning to pay them to do it. But when they told me its going to cost between 200 and 300 dollars!!!! I was like no freaking way!! so i went to auto zone bought a bigger wrench and some WD40 stuff. An hour later Voila!! bolts came off and add 2 more hours and my new part was in. By the way it was a MAZDASPEED Muffler for 120$ including shipping :) I just got back from test driving it and it sounds sweet!!! No ricer sound that is :)

Wish just the Mazdaspeed muffler, the drone really isn't that bad. It definitely has a nice sound to it. I almost wish I didn't sell mine so I could put it on with my full 2.5" turboback and see how it sounds with the turbo.

It does get louder after it "warms up".. like after an hour or more on the highway it'll get quite a bit louder. It was totally tolerable for me before I got my header though.

I drove by a P5 with a Mazdaspeed muffler on it the other day. The passing was brief, but I heard no audible droning...

Kansei

The droning is when you let off the throttle.. it's noticeable more on the highway than anywhere else.

3500 rpms at highway speeds with a header and a mazdaspeed axle back will creat some droning. Add a MAM highflow mid pipe to the mix and holy cow you have to yell to talk to anybody in your car.

i got my car tinted on monday. i still have some small bubbles. it takes a little bit of time for the tint to "settle". my last car, an 02 ES, it took about 2.5 weeks to completely go away. i'd give it more than a few days if i were you because they'll probably just send you away and say it needs more time to settle.

GACC Dyno day! DynaJet dyno. My race car puts down less than my street car lol. Either way, they're both slow as hell. 4th gear pulls took like 15 minutes ;). I'm actually very pleased, comparing my car to other NA proteges there. 110.8 hp and 116.1 lb/ft to the ground. I only had better numbers by about 2 hp and lb/ft than the others, but the BIGGEST (and looking at the dyno sheets, it's huge) difference came in the power delivery. The 2.0L pros running stock ECUs had graphs that looked like they were drawn by someone having a seizure. HUGE bumps, all the way through the power band. With the MP3 ECU, the curve was almost totally smooth. If you've ever seen a dyno of a stock Pro, you'll know what I mean.

The Miata was a different story. Poor girl only made 90.8 hp and 85.7 lb ft. And that was without the air box lol. Oh well. Can only get better from here! It actually picked up 4.5 HP and 4.3 lb/ft from running with the airbox / filter. It was meant to be a baseline dyno full stock. The only thing that detracted from that was my wheels / tires. I would have gained a couple by using the stock 14s, but I wanted to see what the stock motor would do with the car in race trim.

EDIT:
For those who may not know everything, here's what my motor's got:
E-Bay intake with K&N cone filter
Ractive long runner header
Stock mid-pipe / cat
Racing Beat Cat-Back from MSP cut to fit
MP3 ECU

Great, cleaned off the car today, and noticed the kind Canadian winters have left me with a gift. Rust above the left-rear wheel well, bubbling. Some chipping underneath where it curls under.

I'm sure the problem must have been pre-existing, but just not prominent enough to be noticable. :( No visible rust anywhere else at least.

ROFL, Drawn by someone having a seizure is an understatement. I have seen stock Protege dynos and am also impressed with my MP3 ECU dyno.

I was at 116.8 before the new flywheel. I'll see what it is next month. AZMC has reserved a dyno for a club day in 2 weeks.

We have a mini carshow next weekend then the following weekend is a dyno day. Then it off to NOPI on March 17th..

That's the usual spot for rust to begin due to the amount of road salt and debris that is constantly contaminating that area. However. most likely what you can not see is the amount of rust that is building up under the paint. If you plan to keep the car for a very long time and want it perfect I suggest getting an estimate from a pro auto paint shop. But before you due that, check Mazda and your warranty.

Whatever you choose, don't delay or it will spread. Good luck.

its the RB. it isnt loud and droany, i love how it sounds, but sometimes if my g/f or mom rides with me...it get on their nerves sometimes. when not accelerating its barely noticable, but while accelerating sometimes it bothers them. idk. if it was up to me i'd leave it...but gotta keep momma happy

02-20-2007, 11:32 AM
Because the GReddy SP2 that I have is only deep and loud until around 4500 rpm, after that or at normal throttle it sounds stock. I love it. But post some picks with it on when you get the new one.

DONT get the sylvania silverstars. get the osram silverstars. they arent marketed in the US tho so u gotta get em online like at powerbulbs.com or something.

osram makes sylvania, yes, but the bulbs are completely different quality.

I've heard that repeatedly, never last longer than 6 months. Not worth it then? Any other alternative to HID's that would be practical?

hey, yea i've read so many things about osram and sylvania and the sylvania's just are not very good quality. right now i am running MTEC cosmos blues and their yellow fogs. havent had a problem. :-D they are the ones in my avatar. here is a better pic, my camera didnt focus properly so its pixelated, but its good enough to see the lights

just make sure u tell him u want the 50W draw lights if you get the fogs

the 100W draw could burn wires and all that, but i'm sure you already know that. just wanna make sure. it should be the 2x for both sets.

the 4x draw too much current so just let him know you want the 2x set which is 50W draw and you will be set. message him before you buy the yellow ones though so he knows

So my fender liner held up well. Also, my check engine light turned off today, and the car was running GREAT (there were *gasp* actually dry roads today, for the first time since I turboed my car back during winter holiday break.

So yes, the fender liner is no longer a problem. Also, this major scuff I got on my front bumper from some idiot who can't figure out how to park at RIT when I parked for 5 minutes to go run inside and pick up a prescription.. it is also no longer a problem. It's gone.

I was going straight. Went through a light that had been long green.. then BAM honda accord popped out from behind a snow bank on the right and I hit the brakes, swerved, pumped, etc (no abs, very wet roads) and clipped his rear bumper. It spun his car around, just popped off his bumper cover (still totally intact, barely a scratch). Since I had hit the brakes and he was just taking off from a stop sign going left, the impact was very slow speed. No airbags, no injuries.

Called my insurance company, in 1-2 business days they will appraise my car, but until then I can't get ANY car rental reimbursement. Plus, I'm 20, so I think renting a car will cost hundreds of dollars a day, and my policy covers something like 50 dollars a day?

I'm going to call enterprise or whatever rental car company is around here to see what is goin on.

I have pics of my car going up on the flatbed and all, but yeah I have two final exams tomorrow afternoon and have to go in to work in the AM for some emergency server restoration so I have more pressing matters than posting on here for once o_O

preliminary list of what I saw broken:
-Hood
-Fender
-Front bumper (and sidemarker light.. though well I won't get another P5 bumper so that isn't an issue)
-Front fog light
-HID (at least the bulb possibly ignitor)
-CDM headlight
-Bumper core support
-The Styrofoam over the core support
-Fender liner
-Driver side engine under cover
-Possibly one of my intercooler pipes.
-front grille
-more misc bent pieces?

The car seems to still be totally in alignment, under the hood looks great from what I could see, etc.

No. I like the stock grille, a lot. I won't change that. The only thing I would change is CDM headlights instead of black painted usdm headlights, no more sidemarker (msp bumper cover) and no rockblocker covers.

yeah but who is paying for all this? My insurance policy covers 50 dollars of rental per day, and according to my claims adjuster the Enterprise charge for underage driver is just 18 dollars a day if it is billed through an insurance company.. vs over 60 dollars a day if you just go there yourself. Either way, my insurance company is checking out the car today, so maybe I can get a rental car tomorrow? The idiot who hit me has Geico, and they were very terse and cold with me on the phone, saying that they won't talk about liability until they know how much damage is done to my car, and they won't send someone out to see my car for FIVE business days (bare minimum under NYS law).

I don't care about any of this right now though, all I care about is getting to my finals this afternoon and hopefully to work too.

i am going to the sebring palooza and i have my RB cat back exhaust but it arrived with a dent in the muffler.... should i just keep it or file a claim w/ ups and have them send me a new one? if i file a claim it will be a few weeks before i am reimbursed and then another week to get the new cat back, which means I will not have it at Sebring when I go. I am contemplating whether or not I should bite the bullet and just keep it, or whether I should wait and not have it at Sebring and have a new one sent. :( any ideas/suggestions?

Paid it off. It felt good writing that $7200 check. No more car payment FTW.

lucky you... little ways to go yet with mine.

purchased a new exhaust tip for my magnaflow; didn't mind the one it came with, but this one will fit the lines of the car so much better. i'll be picking up my lightened stock flywheel, amsoil, and filter tomorrow in prep for her going under the knife in less than a month... i can hardly wait to drive her again (drive)

just waiting on the timing belt, jspec intake cam, mp3 ecu and custom sub box yet...

I used to own my car but then I took out a loan against it to pay off my credit card.

Hey reynoldsrobbie, how much was it for your taillights to get blacked out?
my buddy paints cars and shot them with his sprayer for FREE! FTW!

mmm turbo

this pontiac G5 is sorely lacking one. It feels so pathetically slow, even compared to a stock p5. plus the engine sounds like crap, it has a plastic steering wheel, numb suspension.. I could go on and on.

I can't wait to talk about my P5 again :(

my insurance company said to find a body shop and get it fixed asap.. but I need to get ahold of the other jerk's crap insurance company to see what they say... since they said they won't get a claims adjuster to look at my car for over a week.

Sucks when you have a nice insurance company because whenever you have to deal with someone else's it's so shitty

Great to hear that your insurance co. is working with you. On the bright side at least you don't have the shitty co. on your side. :)
