You're not the only one. I'd totally take an Evo over an MS3, just because the styling is so much better (though the wing is gargantuan and it looks kinda cheap.. better than being huge and bloated looking with the world's largest c-pillars and only FWD).

plus the evo has a niice engine :) there's a guy on the local car enthusiast forum who dynoed 750awhp and it's his daily driver.. he runs a lot of the AMS stuff, it's soo nice.

quick question...when my car is IN gear, their is a lot of sideways play with the shifter...SS was put in a few days ago w/ the poly bushings...is it supposed to move sideways that much when its IN gear?

whitemp5seattle
01-31-2007, 10:49 PM
I don't think so...I have the kartboy shifter bushings which are made of some hard plastic material and when I'm in gear my shifter doesn't move at all...it's locked pretty damn tight in gear. I also have a B&M shifter. Are you sure all the bolts are tightened and nothing has come loose?

whitemp5seattle
01-31-2007, 10:51 PM
when I installed my kartboy bushings I didn't screw the bolt in tightly enough...and it worked it's way out a few days later! luckily I found them in my school's parking lot (where I thought they had fallen out). I reinstalled them and screwed them so tight I don't think they'll ever come off ever again (should've used some of that threadlocker stuff)

but anyway, when the shifter bushings fell out my shifter was like jelly...not fun

nah.. they can detect from multiple miles away (if you're like.. in a flat desert area on a straight road) and legally they can't confirm your speed from that far away. You have to be pretty darn close.

Wow, I did the very same thing! Ok so it wasn't a one lane road but there were quite a few elevation changes as well as a variety of corners. The only problem was that it has rained a little today so I about sent myself off the road (ughdance) . I'm still not used to the power my P5 makes now. Either way, it was stupid and I won't be doing anything of the sort again on a public road. Gah, I need to find a track or nice open parking lot to have fun it...

Mine just started making the same noise, but mine only makes the noise when the wheel is turned all the way left or right and I'm on the gas. My guess is low power steering fluid, bad power steering pump and/or something wrong with the power steering belt (too tight or loose for example).

Put in a new battery this past weekend. Car was on the OEM battery and was really struggling to start in the cold weather here in Minnesota.

I bought a Duralast Gold from Autozone for $70. Consumer Reports rated it a best buy. It was -15 the day I decided to do this...not too smart. I didn't realize, until I opened the hood in Autozone's lot with my new battery in hand, that the sway bar totally blocks the battery from overhead. I didn't have my wratchet set with me, but thankfully I was able to borrow Autozone's tools. I finally figured out that if I removed the entire airfilter assembly, I could slide the battery forward from underneath the sway bar. 45 minutes later, the battery was in, my fingers were frozen and Autozone's 10mm socket went sailing into the engine bay. I offered to buy them a new one, but they were cool and wouldn't let me.

The P5 starts hard now and is happy! :)

It doesn't make the noise while I am turning the wheel though. It does it if I already have the wheel turned and then step on the gas. Is that different than what you had ?

If the sound doesn't start till you step on the gas, it could be a belt. But if your getting any whining while you crank the wheel theres a good chance you have a bad PS pump. I would check your fluid level, pump(make sure its not leaking anywhere), check the belt, and check the fastener that holds the hose going into the PS pump in plase.

my mileage in the winter is much lower because parking lot drifting (in reverse lol, FWD for the lose) doesn't really rack up the miles much.. plus when it's cold I don't like driving with the windows down so I try to limit my time in the car :P

It's weird, it's not a whining sound at all. I can turn the wheel all the way and it doesn't make a sound until I step on the gas. Only way I can think to describe the sound is like a crunching sound...........

through the pcv? you mean pull the vacuum line off the pcv valve and stick the seafoam in there? that'll suck it into your intake manifold, so you shouldn't have any issue with oil contamination. You really only need to change your oil after using seafoam if you put it.. in your oil.

When I installed mine I jacked up the rear pass. side wheel and took it off. Then all you need to do is unbolt the old and put on the new. When you take off the old I would suggest having someone help support the tip. It's kinda heavy and awkward to do by yourself(but it can be done).

Ha! No...that's the combined weight of everyone in the car. Nah...no Honda for me. Just thought I'd take one for a spin. It's nice, but the "economical" part of the car is still most present. The Z on the other hand, that's a lovely beast indeed. So many debates have already been spoken about comparing the Z and the 8. Personally, the power is fantastic in the Z, but I'm just not feeling the true love that I have in the 8. Trust me....I've been looking at everything. Plus there is the $$$ factor. It seems to handle the cold a LOT better than my OEM battery though, that thing was DONE halfway through my first winter in the cold white north :P

I'm loving the flywheel and clutch. Been driving miss daisy though trying to ease in the new clutch.

I'll get the MSP tranny back and will have to tear it apart to find out why 5th gear is binding up. I'm thinking about the 323 or 626 5th gear and reduce some highway rpms.

Let me know how that works out. Some one on the board was selling a 5th gear kit that looked good.

i went out to try and start it today and got nothing, the cold killed my battery. Luckily with a jump from a friend I was able to get her going but looks like its time to upgrade to an optima.

Interesting. I am still on the original battery, no issues so far, 5 1/2 years. Waiting for it to die. Still starts fine in the cold.

Do you know who it was? NSN motorsports or something like that sells the gears at an outragous price of $255. $150 - $200 shipped is more what I'd pay. Or find a 626 in a junk yard and pay $50.

Its an air tool

Otherwise go to Sears or Home Depot and get a long breaker bar.

I had the same problem...damn rusty bolts and damn Northeast winters! I sprayed them and let them sit overnight and they still wouldn't move. So I called the local Meineke and they got one out with an impact wrench and cut the other off...

5 minutes - time
$10 - cost
driving home with the stock axle back tied to the frame and droning like crazy - priceless.....lol

Here is a cordless impact wrench from kctools.com

Snap on has one too

http://www.handytoolguide.com/2006/08/new_snapon_18volt_cordless_imp.html#more

Snap-on Tools has introduced the new 18-Volt Cordless Impact Wrench which "helps users tackle jobs such as removing lug nuts, loosening tie rod ends and securing other fasteners more accurately and quickly than ever before". 'Touted as the "Mother of All Cordless Impact Wrenches," the Snap-on Cordless Impact Wrench treats users to a patented super-heavy-duty impact mechanism that allows for the quick removal of stubborn fasteners while delivering more power and durability to the head.

Heat-treated alloy gears allow for unprecedented power with a maximum of 550 foot-pounds of tightening torque and 3,000 impacts per minute. Additionally, the Impact wrench features high-impact, glass-filled nylon housing and a patented airflow system for superior durability and tool life. The tool's cushion mounted motor and ergonomic over-molded cushion grip will allow users to reap the benefits of greater control and comfort in those hard-to-reach spaces.'

Should one be working on a car if they lack the knowledge of an impact? The other issue is that rust eats away the metal so much that there is nothing for the sockets to grip. Hence the need to hack off. (ok...enough talking about hacking nuts here.)

I finally put in th WeaponR Coolant Catch tank that has been sitting in my room for about 3 weeks. I had to come up with a way to mount it though. Anyhow, I ended up running to Home Depot and picking up this 3 ft aluminum bar with an "L-shaped" cross-section and going to town with it. I ended up cutting off about a 6" piece and drilling 3 holes in it, 2 for the catch tank and 1 for some random threaded hole I found in the engine bay.

Pics!

Not bad. I nearly recoverd it. took a turn quick and and the ass end kicked out. I recovered enough that i was just perpendicular to the road in the opposite lane instead of spinning out completely and hitting the curb when i came to a stop. it was on a parking lot road so not highly traveled. It is so much easier to get the ass to kick out in the cold...its quite fun.

I did something like that coming down a mountain in flagstaff but I some how managed to hold on and did a sweet drift around two turns, then the brake fade set in bad and I had to granny it down the rest of the way. rednecks-r-us was watching it in his rear view (damn that mofo is fast) It was so scary and fun at the same time made me want to look in to a rwd conversion to do some real drifting. :D
