Oil change. Finally got to use my ramps - I'm in love. Easiest ramps I've ever driven up on. There's enough room for an oompa loompa to mistake it for a lift. I also had enough room to notice that the Jet-Hot coating on my OBX has completely flaked off on the back side of the collector (notcool) . The fact that it's being replaced with a tater and a GHL dp in a few months made it not hurt so bad. Speaking of turbo project - I jumped in with both feet and picked up a Microtech LT-10 today for good measure ...

If I could get the last stud threaded into my turbo manifold I could attach the turbo and actually get something installed on my car today.. but it's like the threading in the manifold is stripped :(

do you have a garage heater or just an attached and insulated garage? My garage is a bit spartan but it's a rental house so I don't feel like insulating it and getting a permanent heating solution :P

garage: http://picasaweb.google.com/clauretano/TurboProjectDay1Disassembly/photo#5013801673234924962

I'm looking at a couple heaters on Home Depot's site (I'd link to them but their site is just awful and you can't link to thinks or open products in new tabs, it gets all messed up)

A Charmglow 25K BTU infrared propane heater - $250

and a Charmglow vent-free propane stove that looks like a cast iron wood stove, fake logs and all :P.. 30K BTU $209

but yeah, so far I've just been working out in the cold because I have hardcore love for my mazda like that :P

I need to pick up some animal safe coolant and get my oil pan emptied too.. but last time I had my pan drained they managed to completely cover the outside of it with used oil and I have to cover the pan with a t-shirt I had in the trunk so that it didn't ruin my car :(

Oy what a trial.
We hacked my wiring harness to install the MPI unit with NA module.
Hit a dead end when instructions called out wires not on the unit.
Passenger seat still removed and ECU is hangin loose
We also tried to install the SU manifold (626).
This manifold is now beautifully ported and polished some too.
Removed stock manifold completely and placed gaskets then,NSN spacer then gasket and SU mani.
1. None of the stock fuel rail mounting points was even close (out of four).
2. The EGR pipe was nowhere close to lining up
3. The spacers now require longer studs
4. The rear support mount was 3" from the back of the IM.
5. The injectors appear to sit too deep in their holes compared to stocker
6. Some vacuum sources will need new homes, no biggie

So after a failed attempt, I removed the mani and replaced the stocker.
We also got at that bitch of a rear motor mount while the mani was off and put on my AWR.
It started but was running poorly. We found another vacuum source not plugged in and 1 injector that didnt seal well. After that she ran fine (with a CEL).
We fabbed a EGR from copper tubing (for now).
Refilled the coolant, unplugged the MPI and moved it out of the garage.

ah so 18x7.5 should fit pretty good then. ill check the fitment guide. did you have to roll your fenders?
and thats good that you havent sucked in water yet, hopefully it stays that way.
what would you get, black or gun metal?

check out that (click the big yellow link) and you can play around with puttin different wheels on different cars. it lets you paint the car, tint the windows and drop it so you can get the best feel for how your car will look with the selected wheels

yea it really does. i cant decide between the black or the gun metal. ill probably do gun metal, since black wheels are almost impossible to keep clean. plus i think itll look just as good as black wheels on a red car. im just hopin that the wheels will fit, cuz rishies guide says that with 215/35/18 tires on a 7.5" wide rim you should have a +48 offset or higher, but im gonna run a 215/40/18 tire on the 7.5" wide rim, so hopefully the +45 offset will work and not rub TOO bad, but i know ill have to have the fenders rolled
but what does ET40, 42, 45 mean? does that just mean that theres 3 different offsets available or what?

Bet the results are rewarding too, did do that to my truck some time back & it was major improvement in noise reduction as well as insulation for heat/AC. Last night all I did was replace my much griped about Sylvania(Can you say OSRAM?) Silverstars after 2 1/2 years of flawless service. Yes, check the package they say made in Germany & OSRAM in small print on it. The bulbs even have OSRAM on the bottom of them so not sure what's better about one than the other(55w 4000k), as has been discussed in other threads, when they are basically the same except the ones that come in an OSRAM package probably cost more than $37.00 for the pair.

I'm probably going to be putting on the stockers again once I get her back. Even though they aren't snow tires, they'll have better adverse weather traction than my ecstas and MSP wheels. Despite the mild weather thus far, western Virginia has been known to get a decent amount of snow once or twice in late winter/early spring - I really wouldn't want low profiles tires in that...

I'm trying to figure out what it could be before I go check it out after work. My wife has it right now and she told me it makes that noise when the car is moving and it doesnt do it when she is stepping on the brakes. Any ideas as to what it might be? I've been hanging out with my p5 all day today

sadly not much has been accomplished. I'll be mounting up my oil pan once I find out if it's ok to use paint on the inside of it to cover up the bare spots from welding.

I want to hang the turbo to see how long I need to make my oil drain line but I can't get the darn corksport downpipe bolted on.

this is frustrating.

thoughts on smoking side markers?
do it - especially on a mid blue or black, i personally think it's a necessity. i used the bluebatmobile tinted overlays, which work great, but i will probably be peeling that off and tinting them with the vht nite shades like i've done with my taillights and eyelids on my headlights. the markers are still reflective and you can easily see the light with them tinted, so you shouldn't run into any problems...

rob, what happened? :(
