one of the older ones, the rim had the littlest bit of damage, i am assuming its just not sealing 100%. I have another set of rims to put on, i was just hoping this set would make it through the winter.

i dont want the new rims to see winter... so i just keep filling the tire, its ok so far. Its a really slow leak, it takes almost a week to drop 10 psi, ive been filling it every morning.

It's a pretty easy job. Are you on winter break from school? I'm serious that I'd much rather do the job myself than see you waste over 500 dollars on it at the dealership. Just get the belts from protegegarage.com or onlinemazdaparts.com
Prices from onlinemazdaparts.com:
/S belt, Protege, 1.8L, 2.0L, w/AC 02-03 $23.10 $0.00 $18.48 Maintenance & lubrication - Engine service - belts & pulleys - P/s belt
ALTERNATOR belt, Protege, 1.8L, 2.0L, Goodyear 2003 $15.45 $0.00 $12.36 Maintenance & lubrication - Engine service - belts & pulleys - Alternator belt
So around 31 dollars, vs almost 40 from a dealership. I think shipping is free during the holiday season too. I'll be back in CT this weekend for the holiday but plan on being back up here as soon after Christmas as possible to start work on my turbo install. If you want to stop by and get it done feel free, just hope that there's no snow because my car will probably be immobile in the garage with a turbo kit half-installed haha

Today I just drove to work and such. Something is up, my car sounds a little different. I don't know if it's because I have a sinus infection and my hearing is a little off or if something is going on. I doubt my EGR needs cleaning, I just did it 1k miles ago haha. Oh well I'll check on that while working on the clutch install later this week.
Oh and I finally scanned in my security system install manual since someone on here was looking for it. Here's a link to the thread with the PDFs http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123655604

Bad news though. I just found out that the random bolt that fell out of my transmission was serving a purpose. I just checked the how-to for removing the tranny since I have a clutch that needs some installing, and well:
" Then you can remove the two side bolts that are holding parts of the rods on the inside. "
so as I feared, something in my tranny is now not being held in place. bah! Oh well, it still drive fine, as long as it is ok until I get a new tranny/lsd

Well I put a bolt in to plug the hole when I was at Mark's house, but whatever on the inside was being held in place by it is probably just floating around inside the tranny right now. It's just some bolt, I can't even begin to figure out what it's part number is. I'd need a blown up diagram of the tranny, and still I'm not going to fix it until I have an LSD to put into my tranny.

My stock board actually has LED 1-6 which would be the auto tranny shift lever position lights I believe. Then LED7 is the low fuel light, LED9 is the door ajar light, and LED10 is the battery light. Still searching for LED8 :P Edit: LED8, just to the right of the 140 mark on the speedo..wonder what that one is for.Kansei, do you have a listing for all of the LED types/sizes for the instrument cluster? Even on the brightest setting, mine seems a little too dim, and, I usually like them dim.
Kansei
12-22-2006, 01:51 PM
None of the dimmable lights on the cluster are lit with LEDs. In general, our cluster lighting isn't very bright. If you want it to be brighter, you can remove the 4 bulbs that light the gauges and pull the orange bulb covers off. Word of warning though: doing this will make the gauges light up orange instead of the normal red. Definitely quite a bit brighter though

nope. The gauges have an orange backing behind where they light up. They achieve their normal red color by incandescent bulb yellowish + orange filter over bulb + orange filter on gauges.
To make them blue.. honestly the easiest way is to replace the gauge face with the one from I think speedhut? It's sold on corksport.com, ans looks pretty much just like the stock gauges but can light up different colors (electroluminescent lighting)

yesterday I got 35.8mpg coming back from Rochester. Last time I got 36.6, but that was 100% highway miles (got gas at station right before NYS Thruway entrance, got gas right off exit from Mass Pike). This time I just got gas the morning before I left, did a few errands in the city, drove back, drove around on all the fun New England back roads I could find on the way back, and then drove her around some more today before filling up. I was at 1/4 of a tank after all that (395 miles worth).. it's crazy how great the gas mileage can be on these cars :)

For Christmas the P5 and I received ventvisors, 20% smoked fog light protection from Rockblocker and a JVC KDG320 hu. :)
Gonna try and get the hu installed today along with the fog light protection. The visors will have to wait until some warmer weather.

merry christmas everyone :) my car is getting a timing belt/drive belts and water pump for christmas :)
magnumP5
12-26-2006, 11:38 AM
My gifts to the P5 were a dual guage bezel pod, AEM wideband, full set of silicone hoses, and a vacuum block (not to mention all the other turbo goodies waiting to be installed). The P5 also got a boost gauge from the g/f... so nice of her.
On Christmas Eve I ended up changing the alternator and water pump belt because the old one was too long (even with the tensioner maxxed) and caused a high-pitched whining whenever I had the lights (or anything electrical) on. The belts listed to you with the UR underdrive pulley were inaccurate, fortunately the power steering and A/C belt just barely fell within the tensioners range. If anyone else has this problem I can give the part number I used...

Picked up a pocket and a wiring harness this morning and got the new hu installed after dinner. Pics aren't the greatest as it is dark out now.
One thing that bothers me is I have play with the unit?! The pocket snapped right in but when I put the sleeve in and pushed out the braces(?) to help hold it secure there is still enough room for it to wiggle (why the hu appears a little lopsided). Any suggestions on what I may have done wrong? This is the first hu I put in myself so it is all new to me.
**edit**The kit is the Metra 88-00-9000 (pocket).
**double edit**Well after searching it seems as though the MSP pocket is the way to go.....still entertaining ideas as those are expensive and I just paid $20 for the metra pocket.

pockets suck....you should of just bought a whole dash kit....i had a pocket before when i had my old panasonic HU...i just recently bought a new Hua Pioneer Premier....and i got a whole dash kit this time....a scosche one...and man...its so much more stronger and supportive than a pocket....

yep, that's smoked. I think they make different levels of smoke tint for the taillights, but for the fogs I only saw one listed. it's way dark.

zomg .. just worked for 3 hours on the car.. here are the results:
http://picasaweb.google.com/claureta...ay1Disassembly (http://picasaweb.google.com/clauretano/TurboProjectDay1Disassembly)
Currently Removed (I'm sure I'm forgetting some things)
- timing belt
- tensioner
- idler
- accessory belts
- valve cover
- timing belt covers
- strut tower brace
- battery
- battery tray
- radiator
- exhaust manifold
- front bumper
- headlights
- fender liners (partially)
- front wheels
- radiator hoses, as well as "water return elbow"
- coolant overflow bottle
- cold air intake
- both fans
- passenger side motor mount in its entirety (it's torn completely as well :'( )
Tomorrow, clutch time, which means I need to get the timing belt stuff back on so I can get the passenger side motor mount reattached.. since every other motor mount has to be removed to drop the tranny.
Doing this stuff alone is only slightly frustrating so far :)

I'm up to a lil over $2700 and I only have the major components... no guages, oil lines, coolant lines, vaccum lines... so none of the smaller details.

Just wait until you're done with the project...Its probably frustrating now because you don't have your car to drive, but I have a feeling you will love the car even more once you are done.

Mazdaspeed pedals = harder to heel toe :(
At least, on the MSPs. I could do it easier in the P5 than in a friend's speed

josh, parting out those mazdaspeed pedals? I already have the floormats and the turbo kit, figure I might as well continue the trend :P
oh and how about the shift boot/ebrake boot.. what color stitching did you get? I had the red stitching, but sold it to rogue because I'm not trying for a red theme anymore.

No no no you silly turbo monkey. You need to let those of us not turboing our car (yet) to have the little things in life. You must give up your ambitions to buy the pedals to me. Anything less is unacceptable.
Josh....if Chris actually buys into this.....I call dibs on your pedals. Paypal is ready. Let me know.
