I'm pissed (of course), but I've been exposed to experiences over the last couple days in a hospital I'm doing rotations at that really put things in perspective. Yes, yes I did. At least I didn't suggest putting a piston into an RX vehicle like 90% of the FCs in Rochester have with their LS1/LS7 swaps.

For clarification, just so anyone doesn't tak my previous statement the wrong way: I was referring to the improper maintenance that many RX-8s have received from owners who thought it was perfectly OK to just treat them like a piston car.

Thanks :)

Seriously tho, it's so great now. Stiff, but not too stiff and handles great. I'm thinking I may take out some valving on the fronts, because they're overpowering the springs, and I'm not getting enough suspension travel, so intead of following the contours of the road, it's just bouncing, which sucks for power delivery.

Also, getting an alignment when I get off work to make sure everything is in order. Need to get the tires balanced, but I need new tires soon anyway so I'm just gonna wait to chew through these.

unlike most cars (tsx included) that just add side marker lights to look more "upscale", the p5 actually needed them. You can't see the turn signals from the side of the car otherwise.

I've been out of this too long - school sucks when it comes to working on your car. Anyway, not today by any means but Friday I installed my long-awaited MAM midpipe only to realize it barely touched the crossmember enough to cause a rattle at certain RPM. So Sunday I took it back off, beat each hanger with a hammer twice and voila, no more rattle.

On another note the CCVT had our annual Fall Car Show on Saturday. I was there and fortunately there were four pics of my car. She was a little dirty but it didn't matter because I didn't win anything - kind of hard to with Vettes, Vipers, Supras, etc. around. Oh well, I attached the pics anyway. Oh yeah, '02 ftw! (first)

Edit: Oops, found 2 more. Bear in mind I didn't take these so don't flame me for the picture quality...

well I need to um.. cut off one of the OEM bolts that holds the brackets for the rear sway bar to the subframe, and then find a bolt/nut that is the same size so that I can properly brace the driver's side of my AXR clunk fix bracket.

While I'm at the hardware store I'm going to see if they sell plywood in anything smaller than 4x8 sheets. I need something I can fit in my p5 without damaging anything that I can trim down to make a new floor in my trunk. I'm looking for the thinnest plywood I can find

Sorry but I didn't put them on a scale. But they were shipped two in a box and the weight of each box was 38lbs. So minus the weight of the box and packing (bubble wrap, air pouches and one piece of cardboard (omg)) I am going to say about 18lbs each?

Nice drop...subtle, if I do (BIG IF) I may go with the MSP springs. What is the drop front and back with those?

It's .75" F/R. The reason the front looks higher is that...well, it kind of is. We have more fender in the front for some reason than in the rear. The body as a whole is sitting flush in relation to the ground, but there's just more gap up front.

Hot... a buddy of mine knows a guy around here with an RX7 quite similar to that. 500+ whp, 10s quarter mile. He's going to ask him if we can drive it some time. I'd pee myself. He's selling it too apparently. If only I had $25k :(

Well, after putting on the new suspeinsion this weekend, it was riding really stiff. With the illuminas set to full stiff (5), I wasn't getting enough suspension travel (the struts were overpowering the spring and not allowing the spring to compress properly). Bumped the compression down to 4, and it's all gravy now. The ride is much better, and I have a lot more grip in the front with more progressive weight transfer under braking :D

Well, this is my first post in this thread, 'cause I've had an LX to play with, and we've been leaving my wife's P5 alone.

But last weekend, we sold the LX, and got serious about playing with the P5. We added Tokico struts (from an MSP) and Eibach Pro-Kit springs. Today, I added the AWR 21mm sway bar and adjustable endlinks. The only previous mod on the car was a B&M short shifter, which went on as soon as we bought the car.

Future mods for the P5 include an Injen CAI and a Wagner shorty header, both of which have previously been on my LX. I also have an MSP axle-back that I'm waiting to get a hanger welded onto.

I actually had this set on my LX for a while, and loved the handling, but they were too low for rural pizza delivery, and since they were wagon springs in a sedan, the ride in the back was pretty bad. As for on the P5, I've only driven it around the block since I put them on. I'm waiting 'til I've had the alignment done on Monday before we really drive the thing. The car looks great with the drop, though!!

:) Looks like fun. I know you can't wait to hang out with those damp leaves again, but when you have a chance, snug up those collar clamps against the bushings. Is everything bolted up to the stock P5 rear subframe? Found any off-camber driveways for some 3-wheel action yet?

It's not at the top of my list, but it's on it: There are a number of cool products that either completely strip rust or permanantly convert it to another substance.

The clunk fix is to relocate the brackets that hold the sway bar to the car. The factory location causes the MSP/MP3 rear sway bar, as well as any upgraded sway bar for the P5 like the AWR ones, to bind up and actually flex instead of just rotating like it should. The clunk sound is the sway bar basically chafing in the bushings.

It doesn't happen with the original P5 sway bar because it is really thin and weak I guess.

I doubt it., unless.. well maybe. If the rust started on the other side of that panel and it's bubbling the paint, that's rust perforation and it's covered. Both of my rear fenders are rusting, in different places than where it was bubbling through last time. I need to go to the dealership and ask them about it, but I'm going to play it safe and wait until my car is in winter mode with stock wheels and hood so that my car doesn't look too out of the ordinary :P. I'll most likely wait until winter is over, no sense fixing the rust right now when it's just going to rust more during the winter :P

Yes, it is being covered under warranty and I get a Mazda6 to borrow while they work on it. Took them a while to get me an answer. The problem is the weep holes dont go low enough to the edge. It appears water/salt is just pooling in the seam. They are supposed to fix all that and seal the intereior so this doesnt happen again. They are blaming mis-aligment of the skins on it? other than that one spot and the gazillion rock chips on the nose the car still looks new. Kind of nervous about leaving my car with them, not because I dont trust them. I just don't care for anybody keeping my car when I can't keep my eye on it.

I just don't care for anybody keeping my car when I can't keep my eye on it.
awesome.. warranty work!! I got 2 free windshields out of mine... I'm sure they will be careful with her.. maybe you could go visit? How long will they have her?

The only warranty work my car ever received was after the normal warranty was gone.. for rust perforation :P I even paid $1000 for an extended warranty like an idiot.

Oh and today I put my summer shift knob back in because I missed it too much already, and then I got stuck trying to get out of my driveway because it has many layers of wet leaves covering the entire driveway. It took me 4 tries to get out.. I had to get a big head start on the short (car-length) flat part to make it up the hill and out onto the street. Good thing there wasn't anyone walking by on the sidewalk as I backed out.. I could have stopped in time but I wouldn't have wanted to :P I'd have to start the process all over again!

Drove to work, still LOVING the clunk fix bracket. Wow I didn't believe it could make such a difference in the overall driving feel of the car. It just feels so solid.

they say thru Friday... got the keys to a Lava Orange Mazda6 as my loaner. They said they saved it just for me since I seem to like brighter colored vehicles?! Man, wish my car had that motor in it. :) and yes, I will go see the car a few times over the next couple days. :)

I visited my car twice daily when it was getting fixed for rust because the paint place they used was way shady. Nobody get your rust fixed through Modern Mazda in Thomaston, CT.

Dropped it off at the bodyshop. Looked pretty funny with 18's on the front and the stockers on the rear :) I swapped them out 'cause I know the wheels may come off for the rear bumper cover change out / overspray potential / etc. I'm turning lemon's into lemonade and the P5 is getting the top grill bar painted and an MSP front bumper cover while in the shop.

Did you apply this new sticker on the side or the rear? If it is the side, please apply another sticker to the other side as the hp gain is distributed to the side of the vehicle the sticker is applied to only. Wouldn't want you driving around with a few extra ponies on just one side, wears tires out faster. :P

^^ he speaks the truth. I balanced out my little NEPOC decal on the passenger side rear window with a little canadian flag decal on the other side.. next to my parking passes that don't count. My RIT and "zoom-zoom" decals are both centered on the rear so they're ok :D

ALL POINTS BULLETIN: THE BITCH IS BACK (on the road) :D *does a little dance*

got everything needed to put the shifter back together, and the weather actually cooperated today. it's great to be able to move her again, even though she's pretty much going to be parked now until spring.

she will be getting a facelift shortly, and hopefully a few odds and ends can make their way under the hood before spring arrives - after she has a MUCH needed bath and the car cover arrives.

I got them from another classic red Protege, havnt put them anywhere near the car yet to see if there are any differences yet though. Not too big of a deal, because im thinking about getting a new paintjob since one of my roomies slammed his SR20DET against my front right fender taking it out of his S13 last week. (pissed)

Again, not today but Sunday. Added some EDM rice (what would that be?) to the P5 in the form of a 323F badge. I personally think it looks a lot better than the Protege5 badge (font is similar to the "Mazda" so it flows better). It does seem to me though, that the Protege5 badge is of better quality than the 323F badge, oh well...

Will have some pics up soon.

When I switched to premium, my mileages jumped up quite a bit too. The first two tanks were like 34/31, IIRC. The last one dropped down back to my normal average.
