Welcome to the P5 Blog...hehe. Took car out of garage for daily drive around town. Looked at her for awhile to decide what to do next. Not sure if I will keep her come next year.

WHAT? okay, if you decide to sell we need to talk....!

Ok..ok...not selling yet. I'm waiting for the Mazdaspeed 3, then I'll decide. Ask anyone, I love my P5 and I baby it to the extreme at times. Heck, I only have a one car garage and my Acura has to stay outside. ;)

Installed my shorty antenna the other day.

Finally was able to wash my baby today, after about 2+ months of being covered with salt and grime and dirt and god-knows-what.
It felt so weird washing my car on about an inch of snow and being able to see my breath, but it was worth it.
Probably gonna rinse it off again today and then wax it. Want her to be nice and shiny for when I (hopefully) get a digital camera on Xmas. :)

Well, since is more like a blog spot than a real thread topic, I have a quick story regarding my P5 from yesturday.

I drove to the mall to find a gift. Of course I knew it would be extremly busy but I had to go. As I pulled into one of the overfilled parking lots I see a silver P5 and said to myself, "Hey it's my car". At that exact moment a young couple in their 20's was walking towards it and as I passed I glanced over with my peripheral vision to see the dearming of the alarm by the orange turnsignal blink. I quickly turned right into the next lane and sped down so I could come up the other end of theirs to snag the spot. Not because they had the same car as mine, but damned if I was going to give up that spot that was right in front of the mall entrance. I made it, stopping just far back enough for them to pull out and so it seemed just enough that they could not see me there due to the massive van next to them. They put the car in reverse and backed up. I knew what was going to happen next as their heads spun around to see me. It was like a meeting of two souls. Ok, more so just a funny coinsidence as we looked at each other passing by with a big grin on our faces and waved. Was it odd or humorous? I don't really know but I sure got a chuckle out of it, as I'm sure many of you do too when you see a car just like yours. Another happy owner. Happy Holidays!

Are those just bolts painted in your license plate bolt holes or are they some special plugs?

I really need to cover mine up.

Oh and to be more on topic... I haven't driven my Protege5 in days :( :(

I can't make left turns because the LED cluster fell into the headlight when I was trying to remove it. I can't seem to fish it out so I'm going to have to take the bumper off in this lovely winter weather.

Just license plate bolts that I put into the holes where the plate holder was. Ohio requires front plates (dumb law), but screw 'em. Had to do something to plug the holes and don't want to do body work.

Not today, but yesterday, installed an AEM CAI.

Today, checked my breaks and need to replace the shoes, everyone is out of stock. :(

Tomorrow, replacing the breaks, and my rear driver-side caliper since it's SAUCED. Then I'm going to test out the performance of the new CAI on (hopefully) dry roads.

I installed my Kartboy short shifter today!!!! Not sure if I like it better than stock though. The stock you have more feeling and I don't mind longer throws.

Yesterday I washed my car, isntalled my Hidden Hitch brand hitch, and wiring kit for trailer lights. Remember, P5's aren't made to tow anything, at least that's what the manual says... At the cost of voiding my warranty, I will tow small things with it anyway. :)

And the day before that, I installed the Kartboy shifter bushing. This is by far the best think you can do. Much better feeling, and it takes away a lot of the shifting slop.

i just got them put on last night at work at about 9:30pm and it was raining so i couldn't really test it out. that is what today is for as long as its not too wet on the roads still. i only had just over 26k on the stockers. from first impressions the car seems to corner flatter when making quick turns. the ride doesn't seem at all compromised. it actually seems a little more smooth. though i only drove from work to the supermarket and back home so like 30-40 min tops. i will let you know after this weekend how they really perform. if you do the struts yourself plan on at least 3-4 hours plus the alignment(this was working with a tech and him doing the major part of the install) and have a tiny pick type of tool for the back panel for prying off the clips. the back panels alone took 30-40 min to remove cuz it was my first time and i didn't want to brake stuff and there is a lot to remove.

I've had all the rear panels out a couple times before so that won't be a problem, and I doubt I'll need an alignment because I've been lowered since last April. I think if I get the Tokicos I won't install them until spring when I'm not on my snow tires anymore because they compromise handling so much.

Oh yeah the OEM battery isn't sealed huh. I should check mine sometime, does it have like a little dipstick under one of the covers? And does filling it make it work better?

Last year I was had a cold start issue a couple times.. it cranked really slowly but did start without having to try it more than once. Scared me a little bit though because I never had something like that happen with my truck.

OT: has nobody put on the rockblocker headlight overlays yet, i was thinking of buying the blue but i'm worried about how the light might get muffled through the overlay. pm me if u have pics.

My pic is blue overlays. The light output is muted, but only slightly. I have Silverstars in my fogs and with the blue overlays it really makes the light output look like HID.

hey, ive only heard shit about silverstars, that they dont last very long at all, and i dont feel like spending 50 bucks on something thats gonna burn out really fast. id rather spend $21.40 and try my luck. if they burn out fast, ill just swap em out for the bulbs ive got now
so what would you recommend? thats long lasting and brighter than reg lights, somethin in the 4000k range

did you get awr's or GT Spec?

You might be thinking about the rear trailing arms...I replaced the rear lateral bars/links that attaches the rear hub to the center brace (the 2 horizontal bars on each wheel)...I don't think there is any performance lateral bar out, It's just the stock part.

The Motor is not a Mazda, They Shit The Bed on the Rod selection so I figured that they didn't need the name on the top of the engine. It's a Limited Edition BRIAN Motor now..

By far the cleanes turbo install I've seen in a Protege. Awesome job!

Curious, why the 323 badge, I'm new to the forum and just got a P5.

The protege is still calleded the 323 in Europe, and the P5 is the 323F IIRC.

I washed the heck out of her today, also pained a few pieces in the engine bay. The valve cover kicked off an unintentional project to paint every extra piece of misc stuff that can be painted.

The P5 got a J-Spec cam and new PIAA's all around last week.
Still needs a wash though.

I killed my car's OEM battery because I was detailing it in my garage and listening to music at a low volume level and when the album finished, it stopped playing and when I came back upstairs I forgot to turn the car off ACC mode :(

Now I'm stuck at my apartment until one of my roommates gets back so that I can get an Optima red top.

Does anyone know of a solution to plug the car in while it's in my garage? Are there battery chargers that are safe to leave on for extended periods of time? There's 4 plug outlets in my garage bay so when I'm detailing or installing something I could plug it in.. either that or I could just get one of those little ipod dock speaker setups but it would get so beat up in there.

Does anyone know if Wal-mart carries these? There's a BJs near here but it closes at 10 and Wal-Mart (which I despise and don't want to give any business) is 24 hours. One of my roommates got back but he has a lab to work that is due at midnight so I don't know when I'll get to go.

For those city lights, did you use the place in our high beam reflector (it's either there or in the low beam reflector) where it looks like they planned on putting in city lights? My friends 04 tib has city lights and I really like the look

The Euro spec cars have them from the factory, and yeah I think it's in the high beam assembly.

yeah thats the spot
but you have to get a long bit and drill through the high beam reflector
then I had to get a tiny vacuum to suck out the bits and pieces the fell into the headlight housing
I think they look great but they are a little too bright. think i might put a dimmer in line to slow them down/

Today I drove my P5 for the first time since Friday. It was painful, but looking outside and seeing the cold, salt, and snow, and then going down into the garage and looking at my perfectly clean Protege that I washed on Thursday when it was 65 or so, told me I was doing the right thing. Luckily the roads are clear and it isn't snowing so maybe I can get it back from class today without it getting too dirty in the process.

Yesterday I installed my Optima red top. Bam, just like that my headlights don't dim anymore. It was getting really bad, and I thought it was just due to the UDP. Now maybe I'll look into a grounding kit, the factory cables going to the battery look really wimpy.

Here are the semi-final results from the project I've been working on the last few days. I painted the valve cover, strut bar, CAI, and a few other small pieces on the engine bay. My eventual plan is to have everything that's easily removable painted the same gunmetal/dark grey color.

First picture is before the CAI was painted, second pic is after, and the 3rd and 4th are just details of the pipes as I was letting them cure inside.

Probably gonna polish the dashboard and dust the interior a little bit, since the rest of the interior is still pretty much perfect.

um...how'd u do that?

You take off the endcaps and trim it, then put the endcaps back on.

i12drivemyMP5, did you just buy the smallest size one they sell?

I think I might buy the other valeo-esque wiper blades, they have them at a pep-boys around here. They don't have the integrated spoiler that the bosche icon and valeo wipers have, so they are much smaller and more streamlined. Don't need that integrated spoiler for the rear wiper anyway.

ok, this isn't today, but yesterday. There's this onramp onto I-75 that, I think, is race track worthy...there's elevation changes, tight curves...anyway, basically, I drove the crap out of it, got a little squirely, and looked like this guy ((thumb)) for about the next 5 minutles lol. Hella fun. I didn't even have to go that way, but it was fo sho the fun route ;)

i12drivemyMP5

Yes, I bought the 18" one & trimmed 2" off each end but you also have to grind the end to have notch where endcap locks in place.

you don't loose that much space the two bars hug the panels pretty tight and the strut bat is not too far below the cover.
