Dont worry I didnt think you actually got one I was just making a comment on our society as a whole. Yeah its funny that they would actually make these things but I think its pretty sad that people buy them.

And also I'd like to point out the irony of Costco selling them.

Well yesterday I finally got my 03 MSP Racing Harts on the car and I must say they DO look good
I couldn't agree with you more :D I know they are heavy as sin, but they look so damn good... I highly doubt I will ever get rid of them.

The only thing I might do at some point is change the colour to, say, bronze?? I've always loved the look of bronze rims on the midnight blue. Anyone good at photoshop? I'd be curious to see what RH's look like in bronze.

Yeah they are VERY heavy but I haven't really noticed any sort of negative impact yet. I just noticed that the wheels look really interesting at night - almost makes them look deeper than they really are with the shadows.

I have thought about getting them powdercoated - I was thinking of trying to do gloss black with the lip left silver and the lettering left silver but I'm not sure how that would look. If anyone could photochop that I'd greatly appreciate it. But yeah, bronze does look good with blue, as well as with red, but that's not the scheme I'm going for. All I need now is a '03.5 MSP lip and my major exterior mods are done.

On another note I have decided to go ahead and buy an MSP ECU. Project BoostedMagnumP5 has begun...

Morrigan desperately needs a proper bath - she hasn't had one in about 6 weeks (I know, I know... several extenuating circumstances) - so hopefully I will have a chance for that on Sunday.

However, this week she did receive two presents:

1. Tuesday, waiting for me at home - A new set of fog lights (courtesy of Yesiownaskyline) with screws that actually come out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This means I can put my yellow luminics in these ones, put them on the car, and put the ones currently on the car (with one completely stripped screw each) into storage. :D

2. Today, delivered to work - A nearly complete set of 03 MSP seat skins (courtesy of mryeller). Just have to get a couple pieces to complete this, and take it to the upholsterer to swap over. I plan to bolster the driver's seat - lateral and lumbar mostly, maybe a bit in the seat itself; previous owner must have been a larger gentleman as it's always felt a bit 'sat out' - at the same time. Hopefully that will all happen before Christmas. :)

Talk about a small world... the one screw in each of my fogs came out no problem, but the other is loc-tighted in (pissed) Anyhow, your fogs now have the 3M on them (to protect from chips/cracking), and should be going onto my car sometime in the next week or two (don't know if I'll have time before vacation on Tues to get them swapped). I'll send you pics when I have :)

Filler switch, as in what? Because I have the brackets and the stock switch in the box - and no use for them. If you want them, they're yours, just let me know.

08-04-2006, 09:17 AM
^^ being without a hose really isn't that bad.. if anything I really conserved on water because I had to carry it down in buckets. I used ProtectAll Quick & Easy wash (QEW) which you don't need to rinse with. You just wash and dry :) Supposedly you only need to use 2 quarts of water to wash a car with it too, but I would usually use 2 gallons and then have a 4 gallon bucket of just water to rinse sponges with.

Good luck with the tint. the meet in a couple/few weeks should be good. Gotta get the cars in tip-top shape :) my car goes under the knife this weekend, getting it painted by some random guy for a crazy low price :D

Last night I gave my "new" P5 its first oil change. Once you get the car on jacks, the drain plug is really easy to get to. The oil filter on the other hand is a pain in the butt to get to. I was afraid I was going to spill oil all over my arm once I got it off, but suprisingly I didn't. I guess I let the oil drain long enough so there wasn't much left in the filter. This weekend it's getting new spark plugs.

I installed a new passenger-side mirror last night. When I bought the car last week, it had been hit in a parking lot and never fixed. It's a really simple installation, the hardest part was getting the door panel off. I need to go back in there and put some locktite on the bolts holding it on, and when I do I'll take some pictures and try to make a How-To.

Hard time getting the door panel off? Must be your first.

It's only "hard" in comparison (mirror = 3 bolts, door = 7 screws/bolts and multiple plastic snaps). At first I missed the 2 bolts hidden under the armrest and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't come off =). I really need to buy the factory service manual (I followed the link in the sticky thread, but the image quality isn't too great).

Oh, and today I drove the P5 up a twisty mountain road (Mt. Tam) and it gave a pretty good effort.

Spent 6 hours putting in my new IM that's been ported/polished with removed VTCS as well as the coolant bypass mod - mad what a chore that was; it is not something I want to do again. I only had one mishap when I forgot to put the injector gasket-things in the IM so I sprayed gas everywhere upon startup. Fixed that and started her up and everything seems fine - no leaks and no funny noises. Throttle response seems a lot better but then again it could just be the placebo effect. I haven't gotten the chance to get her above 4k RPM yet so I can't really comment on the high RPM improvement. At least now she is beginning to drive as well as she looks...

Do it yourself, it's not that hard. I did mine over the winter so I took a while to do it. Check out the How-to from Flat Black ( I believe he wrote it) it's pretty good. I think you could probably have it done in a matter of a few hours. Of course, once the quiksteel has set up and is ready to grind........

Well I just did it myself and since I already had a dremel tool and plenty of bits the only thing I bought besides the IM was the QuikSteel and that was like $4. I could have probably had it professionally done and it would have come out better but it would have cost $100+. Needless to say I'm happy with my $4 port/polish job...

Yaggie - I was going to say, you gave up your P5 for that POS??? You're crazy!!

FINALLY gave Morrigan a proper bath today - unfortunately, did not have time to clay her (and she desperately needs that too) - after nearly 8 weeks without one. :( Just a combo of excessive heat, or rain, or nice temps but me feeling too crappy played into the neglect...

Instead of AIO/WSG/Natty's Blue, I elected to go for two layers of Z5, and then CVM as usual on all the windows. Under the hood is desperate for attention, and the interior still needs to be tidied up a bit - PB NL on all the vinyl inside, and a good vacuum - but I did use the Gummi-Pfledge for the first time on all the rubber mouldings around the doors/hatch... After 4 years of being neglected, they soaked up the conditioner like mad. I'll have to do it again when I get back from my road trip next week I think...

well at like 1am today I went to the paint shop where the guy was still working on my hood (it's giving him a LOT of trouble to paint) so we slapped my stock hood back on and I drove her back home. It was nice to have her back :)

After work today I'll be going back there and *crosses fingers* hopefully it'll be finished.

Here's the story:
I bought the hood from Terbow, it's the fiber images full CF Evo-style hood. He had gotten it painted blazing yellow mica but the guy who painted it did a sorta crappy job so it chipped really quickly for him.

I dropped it off around 11:30AM Saturday and the paint guy said "yeah it shouldn't be an issue, I could have it done today". He needed a piece of my car to do the paint match with but I didn't feel like taking off my spoiler and wouldn't drive without my gas door so I just told him to keep the car for the day.

He called me around 5pm-ish to say that it was going well, they were buffing the sealer (the coat after the primer) or something like that. He also mentioned that my rear motor mount must be torn to hell -- yeah I knew lol (haven't had time to do anything about it, but I have RR Racing inserts that I'm going to try).

I got a call around 8:30-ish and he said that they were going to clear it soon and bake it and it should be done after that. Well, when they were clearing it around midnight they ran out of clear.. drove around in the morning (Sunday) and found a place that had some. When they were baking it the paint shrunk or something and yeah they had to strip it off.

When I went to get the car at 12:30AM today (Monday), he was working on painting another car while his assistant was upstairs trying to grind off the yellow paint. I guess the guy who painted it the last time used a SINGLE STAGE paint, no primer no clear. On top of that, in some places he sanded the hood right down to bare carbon fiber, tossing any hope that I could be ricey and have a little exposed carbon fiber right out the window. The guy had gotten almost all of the yellow off except behind the evo vent (closer to the windshield, in the middle) where I guess it was exceptionally thick or bonded really well or something. My paint guy said that he'd have to find some UV-reactive primer so that they could bond it under UV and have a chance of it actually adhering this time.

I really hope he gets it done by 05:30.

Wow, sounds like that hood is going to be worth it's weight in gold by the time their done with it. Hope it turns out good! And no more teasing - post pics when you get it on!! :)

Took a look at her sitting all shiny in the driveway this morning... it's been too long since she's been so clean. I need to go on chip duty so bad; that's only thing I hate about cleaning her up - all the chips and scratches stand out like a sore thumb, especially due to the light-coloured primer that was used.

Why can't car manufacturers have two colours of primer for their vehicles?? Light gray for the lighter colours, dark gray or black for the darker ones. Sure would help hide the chips and scratches better, *sigh*

Wish they'd used light primer on my sunlight silver. I've got the dark gray almost black shit showing whenever I get a chip. That's why I use that ugly ass executioner mask looking bra on it most of the time, so it won't end up freckle-faced. Anyway, freshly washed with another dose of durashine to keep it spot free yesterday.

You know... it's good... but I'm not 100% sold on it.

The idea behind it is very smart. A simple way to make the knobs universal and just add the correct insert for any car. Saves on manufacturing costs... that's for sure.

But removing the knob means getting channel lock plyers and a cloth to get the threaded insert off the shifter. Also, if you want to make the knob a bit higher... it looks like the insert would stick out the bottom of the knob... I need to look at it closer.

well, I picked up a pretty beat up 'old school' Fultron Memphis Belle MB17 up off of eBay and hopefully get enough to install it into the P5 later today. It will be replacing the Kicker iX-405 I currently run. I soldered in a new rca (yeah its different because Memphis no longer has replacement parts for Fultron amps and MCM is right down the street) input instead of the interesting rca plug hangin on by silicone, cleaned it up and polished with some simichrome. Bench tested out perfectly. Life is good. I have always wanted one of these beasts...

The only reason that I'm driving a Mica Black p5 and not a Red one is b/c the red mas manual, and the wife won't learn to drive it. Plus when the baby comes in Oct., I'll need as little extra distraction as possible. Had I gone red, though, I would've went with bronze/copper rims and yellow tinting on the fogs/headlaps.
Kansei-I think that I'll find some small trim plugs and just fill in the holes that way. Can't afford to repaint the whole thing...Uintl I get a cool lip to add on..

I took off the roof rack crossbars because tomorrow morning it's getting a wash/clay/wax job. It's too difficult to get to the entire roof with the crossbars, so off they came. Unfortunately, the previous owner didn't give me the filler caps when I bought it =(.

Has anybody washed their car with the crossbars removed and without the filler caps? I'm afraid of leaks, so I'm thinking of covering the openings with duct tape until I get everything completed. I'm going to try and find the fillers here or on ebay, but I need to come up with something for tomorrow.

I finally took some pics too and I am going to post them as soon as I get them on my computer so you all can comment. wow altspace I really like the work on the valve cover...

I'm working on mine right now too :)

it's sitting in my garage with wrinkle paint on it.. I think I may have used too heavy a coat though, the wrinkling looks really weird right now. It's been 2-3 hours since I applied the paint, and I haven't hit it with a hair dryer (don't have a heat gun) so maybe that'll help.. I'll give it a try in a few.

If all goes well tomorrow when I bring my car in to make sure the hood paint is still a good paint match, I'll also be getting my RR Racing rear motor mount inserts in finally. I just need to track down my engine hoist brackets and reinstall them :P

*crosses fingers* I really hope my valve cover can come out looking like the mazdaspeed mx-5 valve cover.. if not i'm hitting it with the brake cleaner and just going with a semi-gloss black on it or something.

Kansei
08-12-2006, 10:50 PM
I should probably ask this in the paint your valve cover thread but it'll probably be answered much faster here -- how critical is it for me to prevent contamination during the valve cover painting process? Like I have it sitting on a scrap piece of plywood while painting, but I used brake cleaner all over the thing so I dunno.. do I need to do anything to really sanitize it before reintroducing it to my car? I do have a new valve cover gasket to go on it though so that's no issue.

Also I hope Advance Auto Parts carries NGK spark plug wires for our car.. my red sparkco wires are going to look so bad on top of a red valve cover.

Kansei
08-12-2006, 10:57 PM
yeah I think I'll do that and also make my next oil change a bit sooner just in case there are contaminants. I think I'm at maybe 70,500 or 71k miles and last changed with Redline Full Synth ($$$) at 66,700? I'm due really soon anyway.

Ok so the paint was wrinkling a bit strangely... I think I put way too much paint on. It took 2 cans of brake cleaner, a can of caliper cleaner, and some pb blaster (and tons of shop towels) to get the wrinkle paaint off.. then once I spent all that time getting it clean back on wrinkle paint went. This time I did lighter coatings.. just enough so that it is evenly red.

The first pic is the weird wrinkling (I have the 8 megapixel version that I should have cropped instead of resized.. oh well) and the second pic is the new paint. I think I might have a pic showing how thick it was before on one of my cell phones but I don't have time to look around for that right now.

Hood Update ---------

I just got back from checking on my hood. I actually was inside the baking oven with the painter (it was 140 in there, felt sooooo good). There's 3 coats of clear on it, but the CF is still causing a couple pits where the previous painter had sanded down to bare CF. There's also some scratches under the paint on the passenger side from whoever was sanding it forgetting to go to a finer grit on that spot. The guy painting it is going to wetsand it all tomorrow and if everything is hidden well enough (scratches, pits) I'll just put it on as-is. If not, he'll go back to work and see what he can do. I'm reeeally hoping wetsanding fixes things so that I can have the hood on for the central NY meet on Saturday and Zoom Zoom Live Boston on Sunday :)

... yeah I totally forgot to take pictures of the hood when I was staring at it's glossy beauty in the oven :P

It's running all my speakers with the amp. Says it is 6-channel but it's basically 2 separate amps under the hood. 1st is 75x4 @4ohms and the 2nd is 2x150 @4ohms but I have it set up as 600x1@2ohms. Kickers separates up front and rear doors and the 2 12" solobaric subs.
