Is that with 215/45s on? I dunno for some reason those tires always look too beefy to me on the MSP... maybe it is the shape of the wheels.
to be honest, i love the look of the 215/45s on my car... enhances the stance of the car, imo. while i have these rims (and i don't plan on changing any time soon), i doubt i will go to another size. :)

Are you lowered? I really didn't think 215/45s could fit without rubbing. My 215/40s would rub occassionally (really not too often), and I have 0 rubbing with the 205/40s. I would much rather have gone with a 205/45 if the ones I got weren't such a good deal at the time.

i should actually take a pic of how close everything is :D

looks pretty good, but mine looks better - though, i am a little biased ;)
Wow - you can really see the difference an inch makes (hey now! :p) I was shocked when bolting on the Racing Hart's at the visual impact. The high offset must be the reason there are no rubs.
*edit: with the 215's

yeah, i know. heavy bastards (i think one rim/tire is about half my body weight, haha) but they look so damn good. best looking oem rim mazda's put out, imho. i think i have a bare inch between the top of the tire and the bottom of the strut, and i think the clearance on the inside of the rim isn't much more. the tires are very close to the inside lip of the wheel well - moreso in back than front - but no rubbing :D

Drove her for the first time since Tuesday. Was cleaning out my basement for the last two days.....1200sf with 4" of water = 3200 gallons of water (and mud). It still is a PITA as we have more items to clean and bring in from the garage but I cannot imagine what it must have been like for people down in Miss. and LA as well as others near me at this very moment.

Do you at all care about keeping it legal? Your state has crazy tint laws. The only window you are allowed to tint is the glass on the hatch, which can be tinted as much as you want. Any other window can't be darker than 70%

Move in the spring so you get used to the heat before summer hits. That allpies only if you are moving the desert.
If you move up in the mountains with me its in the mid 80's to lower 90's for a high with about 15 - 20% humidity on a hot day.
There are emissions testing in Phoenix and Tucson but the rest of the state is eissions free.
And don't forget to sign up at www.azmazdaclub.com when you move here.

i've always wondered what the roads are like in alaska. i went with my dad a few years ago on one of his trips up north for work. from alberta into nwt - mostly ft. liard, ft. simpson, lutsalke (i think that's how you spell it, we always call it looks-okay :) ), etc. we ended up leaving our car in northern alberta and renting an explorer because the roads weren't the greatest, even in the towns. i'd be scared to take my car on some of the roads - she'd shake apart.

I wonder what kind of gas mileage our cars would get at that speed for any prolonged period of time.
I know I get 36.5MPG (with all my mods) going 69 on the highway for 75% of the trip and 50-60 with not too many stops chillin in 5th gear on some fun ass back roads for the latter 25% of the trip. Windows down, no AC the whole time.

I just put my OBX Header on that I got from Ken at ProtegeGarage. Great sound, no noticable difference in power I guess until the ecu has time to get used to the set up.
Installed Canadian headlights (gotta thank Andrea(canada)), Xenon-Shop 6000K HID's (drove home from fireworks at the lake with these pointed at the ground :-/ ), new fender/light tabs and an Apexr1 diverter plate. Flash and no flash ... tomorrow I aim headlights and wash the car.
*Edit: Oh yeah - cleaned and re-oiled the K&N cone (having the entire f'n front end off makes for EZ access (stash))

How'd you like removing the front end? Enough screws and bolts for you? Geez... When I did my headlight swap a few years ago, we got everything off (looking at only the diagram from the shop manual), lights swapped, and back together - including taking a short lunch break - in under book time of 2.5 hrs. :) But when we were done, we had 4 screws left over... Had to remember where they went! lol

I myself went from the chrome housing to the black... granted, it was 3 years ago, but I can't recall any issues with reduced light output.

I bet none. :) The reflector stays chrome and you only paint the housing, here's a close up of the Canadian light - diy will look the same ... I planned on doing a P5 light conversion for my MSP, so I was in the market for some lights anyway (I believe the exchange rate was a little more favorable when I got my set of Canadians last year).

This is the second time I've had the front off and I can do it pretty quick now that I have all the special manuevers down (dang light tabs). Right, it should have no effect. However, I remember one person (dude who just turboed his black p5) complaining that his light output when down after he did it. I know that if it's done right the only part that will be black is the housing but it never hurts to check. Naw mean?

haha, yeah it took both of us about 10 min of looking back and forth between the diagram and the bumper while lying under the car before we had the 'eureka' moment. those tabs are a PITA - almost as bad as changing the low-beam bulbs. i think i did break one... i have to take the cover off again sometime this summer to redo my eyelids, so i may get new ones as a precaution.

Yep, that'd be me. And I wasn't complaining, just giving my .02 on the light ouput after blacking them out. The only part I painted is the usual plastic piece in the middle, everything else is still chrome. It seems to be the pattern that's affected more than the actual output. My mom's 02 lx side by side w/ my p5 has the crisp light pattern that my p5 used to have before the blackout. I think since the pattern is a little less sharp, it makes the output look a little dimmer. Again, it's not a HUGE difference, but enough to notice. I also plan on putting in HID's in the near future.

The sedan headlights have a much crisper cutoff in general, FWIW.
Today I cured the dash rattles that made my car feel like it was falling apart going over bad seams in pavement (all over the place in crappy NY). It turns out it was totally my fault. Yeah, I had 25 CDs (in their plastic cases) filling my glovebox, center console, radio pocket, and even that storage bin near the cupholders.
Now, there's pretty much nothing in the car. There's an umbrella in the door pocket, my cell phone headset in the radio pocket, just my mazda zippered thing in the glovebox, and some gas receipts for my mileage chart in the center bin. She's silent over bumps now. I think the reduced noise made it "feel" much better too. Yeah it's still jarring at times but I really don't mind it as long as the car is ok with it :D. I still need to set aside time to inspect my driver side front strut, I think there's a loose bolt on there somewhere from when I got my car aligned. It makes a bit of a popping noise whenever I launch.
My car is in one of those "in-between" stages right now. There's a lot of little things that I'm in the middle of working on but just haven't had time to finish. My subwoofer is just strapped down by the cargo net, I have the suspension popping to deal with, and I still haven't called the place that mounted my new tires to see if it is ok to take off the strange tape they put over the wheel weights. It looks like duct tape but it definitely is made of metal (??).
On a plus note I found a great Audio/Video shop (not just car stuff) yesterday. I had the money in hand and asked them sheepishly if they carried Kenwood products. They looked at me as if I was like a homeless person or something and said "No, we don't do Kenwood here". My kind of place :D :D I love elitists. I explained my whole situation to them (explained here: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123639013) and they said it sounded like a really cool idea but they haven't heard of any other companies doing USB like that (capped at 15,000 songs not 250 or so like Alpine does it). I redeemed myself by snagging a pair of Grado headphones :)

Sucks more when you have a spare tire but it can't be removed (weld broke on something so the bolt that holds it down is flopping around but can't be removed :'(. I haven't had the time (and don't have the tools really unless I use a dremel) to cut the bolt off. I figure if I get a flat I won't be too far from my apartment so I can have one of my roommates grab my full-sized spare (extra rim for my set with an all-season tire) or one of my winter wheels and come to the rescue. That or I can call Cingular Wireless and add roadside assistance to my plan at just the right moment harharhar.

If you can keep off the gas, you actually get slightly better mileage... but of course, what's the use of doing a performance mod if you don't lay into it? :D My mileage is very close to what it was pre-header - maybe 1-2mpg/tank less on average??

Basically, IF I'm not mistaken (which I could be) it is the intake cam off of the JDM FS-DE (aka the FS-ZE) engine, which has a more agressive profile. (Actually, I'm sure ours us the us market FS-ZE engine lol)

Yeah what he said. It's from the JDM version of our engine. It doesn't have increased lift (so you don't really need to get re-shimmed in theory) but has inreased duration.
Very much not worth the cash or install difficulty if you ask me. Worst way I ever wasted 1,000 dollars. Yeah, the cam was only 200 bucks (got it off someone who never installed it) but then I had to get a compressor (300 dollars), an impact wrench (200), and some other tools and crap. ugh
Oh yeah.. I notice 0 performance difference. Someday I'll dyno my car and maybe it'll tell me otherwise but for now I'm sticking with it being not worth it.
Scroll down a bit: http://corksport.com/store/category/4qbu/99p-engine.html
Corksport still has the cam for $180, if you're patient enough, they show up in the FS section on a regular basis. I've got one going in with a repinned intake cam (Mazdaspeed exhaust cam clone) this month.

Good luck. I tend to think that my butt dyno might just be broken. I don't notice much difference between my modded p5 and my friend's stock MSP. I did notice the underdrive pulley and the header though. Basically anything that like shifts the powerband I noticed a difference in the way the car feels, but can't say if it feels slower or faster.

Thanks guys. I have my Thunder header (just received) sitting in my office at work. I am waiting on MAM mid-pipe and RB catback - both just ordered. I figure I might as well do it all at once. Hopefully before they get here I will order the udp. I am excited about the gains, however small they may be. I think it's going to be cool doing it all at once instead of one piece at a time. Thanks again for the info.
Doing it all at once is an awesome idea, because you'll definitely notice it. I do everything incrementally because I always install the day I get the product haha.

But your ECU isn't designed to take advantage of the higher octane, so all you are doing is probably getting the combustion to happen later in the cycle... which probably isn't great.
Unless you have an MP3 ECU or have dome some fuel tuning or a turbo, putting high octane in is just wasting your money.

I realize that, but if our ECU can "learn" our driving habits, and "learn" around a FMU, then I think it's possible to "Learn" higher octane

Yes, it's a MSP cover that I painted silver. I cut a piece of CF inlay for the center. Also cut pieces of CF from a hood for the fuse box.

Washed her again. Installed teh Millenia pcv valve and vacuum tap. Put the vacuum tap on the samco hose coming off the turbo. Hooked up the actuator vaccuum hose to the tap for better response and put in a t and ran the boost gauge off of that for a better reading. Both seem to be working well. Pics! The first is the new pcv valve. Second is the new valve installed, stock on the left. In the third you can see the where the hose attaches to the vaccuum tap on the samco hose. Cleaned the engine bay but didn't go nuts cuz it was too damn hot. Yesterday took third at a show with Mark (Bazooka Joe) and Chris (Chuyler1). It's true, Mark is the man, first place again! (first)

I went to the back of a supermarket to find enough room and a big flat wall ... with a measuring tape and a roll of masking tape in hand. If I had been thinking, I would have measured the "H-H" line height to figure out if I would be aiming higher or lower than DOT specs with the euro specs. I changed two variables (new housings and new bulbs) and my lights were waaaaaay off. At the 25' mark, my beam patern was only a couple inches up on the wall.

Still don't really know. Luckily, it never actually came apart. It was just a huge spiderweb but all in one piece. Took a week and a half to get the replacement for it. Thank god for collision tape.
