I know EXACTLY what you mean... this happened to me, but thankfully only on the one side. Ended up using a crow bar to pry the stock strut out and jerry-rigging up something for the abs sensor cord. But yeah, does make it a little interesting...
Yeah, I used a big assed pry bar to man-handle the derned things out.

I was thinking of using some zip-ties arranged in a fancy manner to hold it down. Either that or i'll use a quick tig weld

good luck with the header install, everything went as planned until i tried to get the two bolts at the bottom off, they are the infamous spring loaded bolts between the manifold and the midpipe. the non fouler trick works awesome by the way!!

The 'clip' that the abs cable is in has a hole through it to go through the bolt that you broke... but you have another one or two bolts on the strut that you can easily attach it to instead. We just bent/turned the clip accordingly (we may have had to drill out the hole in the clip to make it bigger, I can't remember now) and just attached it to the strut there. Voila, works like a charm - and no zip ties to fuss with or worry about catching in something or melting.

If you can't picture what I'm talking about, I'm likely taking the wheels off this weekend to paint the calipers - I can take a pic for you then if you'd like.

ummm... ok, fine. :) in the box, a 27" tv is probably more along the size of a 32" or bigger - sucker barely cleared the hatch opening, but it did. had to put the back seats down too to properly close the hatch door, but i could easily still have fit in a tv stand (depending on style). Its a Protege 5 that was turned into a truck. It was even used in a porn movie last year or the year before.

Do a search for Protegefest 2004. Thats where I took these pictures with my old video camera. I'm sure somebody took better quality pictures.

Has your car even left massholeachusetts yet? It must be nice to be such low mileage, but I like traveling the continent (well the northeast, Ontario, and Quebec so far) with my Protege5 :)

I think today if I have time I might prep the top bar on my grille and my front emblem for repainting. It sucks sanding the emblem though, it's too intricate. I might just pony up the 12 dollars or so for the OEM MSP front grille emblem since it looks like it is painted sunlight silver anyway.

roflmao! too funny chris...

if all goes as planned, this will be a big weekend for morrigan: new grills top and bottom (mazdaspeedster), foglight bulbs (yellow luminics), polishing headlights and redoing the eyelid (vht) then covering with the 3m, painting the calipers (silver), checking for what's rattling in the shifter (it's not the snap ring, but something in the base, don't know what), repainting the stock strut bar (to match the valve cover, smoked chrome), new door sills (protege5 el)... i think that's all :D

oh yeah, having the tires balanced, rotated and my leaky tire fixed today :(

Acura CL > Protege 5 > Saturn Vue

We took the P5 to Hershey last week because my wife complains about the seats in our Vue (they are pretty bad for longer trips). Going to Myrtle Beach in August with some fam and going to ask them to take some of our bags so I can drive the P5 down. It is so much fun to drive and comfy (comparably). Plus the mpg is better.

Does the DGM lip look factory after painted and installed? It seems like I've seen a few that look.....i dunno bulky or something. How do they look up close? Don't get me wrong I plan on ordering by this fall. Just want some clarification.

ow. Drive safely man, it's worth it.

I haven't had registration in my car for about a month now. The car has valid registration through Feb 2008 but a Subaru dealership that I test drove a car at never gave me my registration back. They took it for like the VIN or something to determine trade in value.

new grills (top and bottom) are on, genuine daveb gauge rings are in, door chime mod is done, and mazdaspeed pedals are on... kind of. accelerator was a piece of cake, but the clutch and brake pedals are one royal PITA!!!! got them over the bottom and sides, but just cannot get them to snug over the top - and we were at it for over an hour. any suggestions? it's a very tight fit.

VENT
tried to change my foglight bulbs and got as far as the screws (to take the actual assembly apart to put the new bulb in): the one screw for each foglight was locktighted in - and in the process of trying to get it out, we entirely scored/stripped the screw (it was a phillips). only way to get it out is to drill it out i think; that, or pay someone to do this ridiculously easy task.
/VENT

also got the new door sills on, but didn't have time to do the wiring today, so that will have to wait a bit. oh, and detailed her inside and washed her after.

as it was too dark by the time i finished, pics forthcoming tomorrow. :)

I see you said that it is entirely stripped, can you get a pair of vise grips on the edges? maybe trying to spray(and let soak in) some lubricant. If you were closer I wouldn't mind giving you a hand, but you are a bit north. Can you try to file a groove into the head of the screw to maybe get a flat head? It is hard to think of things without having it in my hands to fiddle with, hope it helps, and if you want to drive down I'll take care of you and you could help me with detailing(peep)

Got the assembly pulled out (as far as the wires would allow), and attempted to remove the two tiny screws actually holding the front glass to the back housing. It's one of those little screws - for EACH foglight - that got stripped. They're basically circles now. :(

We're twins then, well would be if I could change the foglight bulbs. grrrr Yeah, love the titanium whites; don't drive much at night, but I do expect to get flashed when I do... Then I'll flash right back :D

Believe me, when we realized we were starting to score them, we stopped immediately and sprayed some WD40 on... which did squat. That's an idea that might work... I'll have to try that, but I have a feeling since they're locktighted in, it won't help. :( Doesn't help either that the screws are so tiny. My dad was thinking that they might have to be drilled out.

Yikes! It isn't too tough to remove those wires and get the hole thing out, if you already haven't. That way you can actually get some good pressure and proper angle on the screws!

Yesh... twins! It's a lovely setup, I'm sure there are tons of people with it. We should start a club :D

if you can get a hold of a dremel tool. get the thin cutting disk attachment usually comes with it as accessories , but use it to cut a THINline inthe center and use a flt head screw driver to remove screw. replacement screw 4mm x 10mm panhead( check around for a fastener specialist store before going to stealership) good luck, allen oh the wire issue reach behind and there is a plug that can slide on and off and it will also beable to get unplugged, too.

i had a thick mf under the fog so i could put some good pressure on it without fear of scratching the bumper (not that a scratch would be noticed in amongst all the rock chips and pits). my dad tried as well - sucker is in there TIGHT.

i think i can get one... but as it's in there so tight, it quite likely would be an effort in futility. my dad also thought of simply drilling out the screw. i'm not sure what exactly is involved with that, i just don't want to mess it up for putting everything back together (ughdance) but thanks for the info on the screw size/type - i work at a dealership and have good connections with another so i might not get raped too badly.

Today I had a most amazing discovery. I encountered the endlinki nonrusticus - (aka the Southern California endlink). Rarely seen, this little nipper was nearly three years old as evidenced by other clues around its dwelling. In sharp contrast to its northern cousin the endlinki cantstoptherusticus, its exterior coat does not take on a protective barrier strikingly accentuated by its color change as it ages. This rare breed requires no penetrating oil or even a 5mm allen wrench to remove it from its perch. I was lucky to have my camera with me on this one ...
http://www.msprotege.com/members/Bala%20de%20Plata/SprgInstl%20006.jpg

Moving past this discovery, I encountered a near emergency as I moved the passenger side rear caliper out of the way to allow removal of the strut bolts (thanks Mazda - I'm glad you shaved 2 seconds off the production line (pow)). In true "knuckle buster" fashion, this area (clearly pointed out) in the wheel well came in rapid contact with my left thumb. If it were not for my Mechanix brand gloves, there would have been stitches (there was still blood). I'd also like to share the fact that I need to cut my nails.

I love everything you have done to your car BUT......I think the grill mod looks a bit overdone. I have yet to see a grill, other than the autoexe/mintblue, that I like on our cars. It is just my opinion. Other than that you have done an excellent job w/ your car. I guess it does'nt matter what everyone else thinks as long as you like it.

Handling is impressive compared to the stock setup. I went for a shakedown run after these shots (drive) The car definitely needs "more tire" at this point (but this will be fixed in the next week or so :D) The Espiler springs are comparable in drop to the Eibach pro-kit. The difference being that the Espilers are progressive in the rear (like the Eibach's), but linear in the front. Combined with the Tokico's this combo feels more aggressive than my stock MSP setup - but not overly harsh.

Yes silver outline is there... and I lik-it-a-lot, the paint is actually 5 or 6 layers of VHT spray tint, I had to try it since I heard it is supposed to make hyperblack when sprayed on chrome... Stock wheels are next (winter setup)

I need to touch up between the "protege" and the "5" it built up and I need to remove the excess (I tried to remove it right before the 5, and removed the stock vinyl, must get touch up pen.)

Think I tint my chopped version of the flyin "M"? How about my third Brakelight?

You have paint seperation and blistering. Redo those badges. Painting of chrome plating is quite difficult. It has to do with the fact that chrome won't easily "wet" ('high contact angle' is one way it's expressed, I think). Usually epoxy based paints will adhere to chrome, but you have an exterior application, so steer clear of that, since epoxies will chalk outdoors. Try an acrylic based paint after the final rinse, before the chrome has cooled. This way you can get a tooth on the chrome before you are left with a slick, non-porous surface.

Breeegz
06-27-2006, 09:31 AM
Well, I know that I need to remove some of the excess tint between the letters, but I dont think the letters are blistering... I'll inspect it closely when I remove the excess...

ughhh was a pain at first, there's two screws (that were the hardest to get to) inside connecting the bumper to the fender and they were a pain.. I can now do it no problem, so if you need help I can fill you in.

Oh and I broke no tabs on the bumper which is good news! (cool)

Yep, and they look sooooo good. Every time I walk up to it, I'm like damn, that is clean! Well worth the couple hours of hell.

I put in my R-Racing under drive pulley today. It took about 2 hours, not too hard. Some bolts were kind of awkward luckily my friend let me borrow his nice Mac tools :D So far I didn't notice a whole lot of difference, but I haven't had a chance to push it hard yet. Plus the ECU needs to learn, right ;)

Also fixed my exhaust leak, yay! Midpipe being held with one bolt = lots of noise.

Is that with 215/45s on? I dunno for some reason those tires always look too beefy to me on the MSP... maybe it is the shape of the wheels.

Yes. I also agree with you ... but I've probably spent too much time looking at 35 and 40 series tires. These will stay on until my 18's show up next week .... :) But man, do these stick!

Took the battery out. I'm gonna be gone for 2 months, so if some1 really wants it, they're at least gonna have to work for it...

I guess if I get bored I could get some crazy left foot braking action goin on lol. It's probably gonna be some front driver pontiac or something absolutely boring like that...I just hope whatever it is, it'll have a decent engine, cuz that'll be its only saving grace lol. Damn crappy ass rental cars...hmm, I wonder how much those Rent-a-Shelby's are lol

Walked out of work yesterday to an exploded sunroof.........Dunno what the hell happened but it is one big spiderweb right now. Luckily for me it has not blown apart and left glass all over the place. I had to drive it for an hour to get home from work with it crackling all the way..........

ah, but is it the same colour as yours? :) there's another mid blue a couple blocks from my place that is all stock; earlier this spring i took a couple pics of morrigan and that one together, just to see how they compared. i'll have to post it up - i'm at work right now, so i'll do that later tonight - it's neat.

my girl will need an oil change shortly, all the mountain runs rack up the km pretty quick :D

i use amsoil and the oem mazda filter.... jdm oem that is ;) one of the independent shops in town specializes in mazdas and they bring these filters in. and yes, they are better than the usdm ones - i've seen them side by side; never compared one to the k&n though... i should one of these days.

but i have never changed the oil myself :( i wouldn't mind learning how to though; just need someone to help/show me how a few times
