its too bad that wings west doesn't make that hood any longer. I'd love to get one. I don't trust a lot of the knock offs. i think the only hood i'd get would be a dg hood but they don't have the evo style. bummer
ya, that's why i grabbed this one off another member who was parting out...i love the DG hood but at 1K+ it's too rich for my blood!

i'd love to give you the two-penny tour... and with exchange rates the way they are right now, it would just about work out to that for the both of us! haha
you read my mind... i checked with the dealer yesterday and they finally came in while i was away. i hope to pick them up this week, or the beginning of next week at the latest. i'll pm when i have and we'll finalize things. :)

Picked up some turtle wax ice this morning on my way in to work. After seeing Chris' mom's Altima, I had to.....but I hope he is right and it will last awhile....it put me back $17 or roughly 5 gallons of gas. lol
altspace
05-26-2006, 08:44 AM
It's a synthetic mix. Won't last as long as a pure Carnauba. Great for light swirls though.
Kansei
05-26-2006, 09:53 AM
Yeah it definitely won't last as long (on the car) as a carnauba wax, but the ease at which you can apply it and wipe off the excess is amazing. I wouldn't mind using it weekly.
Oh and the $17 dollars will go far, you'll see when you see the amount you used. Here's a hint though, you can use a lot less than you think you'll need. It spreads far. The lighting in my garage made it easy to see where it was and wasn't applied. When I first started with the Altima I was using too much and it wasn't quite as easy to remove as it should have been.
I guess "use sparingly" goes for all waxes though.

haha, no just planning to work on my car - and maybe my parents, sister, etc. the poorboys polishes are sample size only which should hopefully be enough. i bought my p5 used, and while it's not severe, there is some swirling, holograms, and oxidation that does need to be taken care of.

it doesn't have to be anything fancy, just something that will hold my 10" JL, have an OEM look and feel to it, like it belongs/came with the car, but removable (has to come out for autox).

good thing you corrected yourself... or might have had to do some correcting for you! (enguard) lol
yes we do! that's where i'd prefer to put mine too... just a little more room available for a larger sub. if it ends up jutting out into the hatch a little - say 5-6" - it'll still be tons less than the room the sub currently takes up.

Breeegz - If you aren't done and haven't cut any more endlinks, I just wanted to let you know that it can be done without disconnecting the endlinks at all. When my lowering springs were installed (April 26th, 2005) at a NEPOC Spring Install gathering, we didn't deal with endlinks at all. I know on the rear the brake calipers had to be unbolted and moved out of the way to be able to angle the strut as needed to get the top of it out of the wheelwell, but I don't think any special steps were needed in the front.

Last week I got smoked by three VW's on 93 in NH. I have no mods so I wasn't surprised. Sunday I redeemed myself about a third, I smoked a VW along the same stretch of highway. Apparently he didn't want to do 120mph and I did so yeah...

Washed on Monday (lots of bugs and tar); waxed on Tuesday then took the ritual post-detailing joy ride. Used Meguiar's Gold Class liquid wax - application was easy enough. My P5 is Sunlight Silver and after waxing, I didn't notice any added depth to the paint. Never had a metallic silver car before, so maybe waxing provides little eye-candy? It will be interesting to see how the wax holds up.

Yeah I had mine washed, for the first and last time. I heard this place was good, people were wrong. I just got back from having it re-washed and they still did a shitty job. I love the car, but I had my 7mnth old twins and g/f with me, had too much stuff to do. I think tomorrow I will get the supplies and do it myself. Any recommendations as to what washing products I should get? So far I have...umm...none, so...yeah anybody got any suggestions? Chamois aren't good for drying your car, as Mr. Detailer said.. waffle weave towels are what he suggests for drying and thats what i use. Chamois dry good but can scratch the paint if anything gets caught underneath there when your drying.

a few years ago, we went to visit my cousins in Saskatchewan for a weekend in the summer. in town, they weren't too bad, but once you got out on the highway, the grasshoppers were very bad. we had to stop every 2 hours or so to clean the windshield and front bumper or else you couldn't see.
by the time i got home, the front end of my car was no longer blue - it was green and yellow. in by the fog lights, they were packed in so thick i almost thought i'd have to take the foglights out to clean in there properly (luckily i didn't).
for a few weeks after that though, whenever i got in the car, all you could smell was 'hopper guts, and for months after, i was cleaning the carcasses out of the engine bay. ewwww

what about 205's, anyone out there????!!!
I had 205/45/16 Hankook K104 for my summer tires. They were great in both dry and rain. Never hydroplaned on me once even driving highway speeds in heavy rain. The 45's looked pretty skimpy and left the wheel opening looking huge. For my winter wheels I had 205/50/16 Hankooks W300 and they filled in the wheel opening really well. With the wider tire you should get slightly better gas milage, like 0.0001 mpg better, it is also like 4.5% larger than the stock tire so the speedo will be off by a MPH or two. It also effects the number of miles that the car puts on, if I remember correctly the larger tire puts less milage because the circumference is more than the stock tire.

I'm leaning toward the 205/50s eagle f1-gs-d3 tire. I thought that the 45's might be to small looking. those 50's look pretty good?

tonight is waxing with natty's blue (if i can keep my nose out of the jar :D ), the interior and dressing the tires (which i forgot last night, oops). hopefully the light will be nice enough that i can go for a quick drive and photoshoot afterwards.
leebee - the tires are falken fk-451 (replaced recently with the fk-452's, iirc) in 215/45r17, which is the stock size on the mazdaspeed rims that are on the car :D my exhaust is cat-back magnaflow; with the header it's a bit louder, but not obnoxious, and has a nice deep tone (with the 2nd cat and resonator still on the car); i highly recommend it. i'm getting mark's (bazooka joe) old mid-pipe w/highflow cat shortly, so i'm interested to see if that changes the tone/volume at all.

Is it a 2.5" midpipe with high flow cat, like the MAM ones? It will be loud... heh. I like it though. Except now I have an exhaust leak, so it is ridiculously loud and annoying. It is super loud at idle comparatively speaking :D

Hey Andrea,... is it? (sorry if I'm getting it wrong, I'm new to this forum and I'm still trying to figure out who's who.)
thanks you for the info on the tires and exhaust, I'm getting new tires here pretty quick so I've been researching a little. I've had a couple of
"tire place" guys tell me that the 215's were too wide for the p5 and that they might scrape on the inside wheel well. Funny what those guys think they know.

What would you look for in an exhaust that has to do with the noise level, or volume. does the length have something to do with it ,or are there silencers of some sort? I like em fast n' quiet.(drive2)

I put some 215/35/18's on my Hiboosted P5 about 2 weeks ago and I love them. I read where the sidewalls are a little soft but in a 35 profile not a problem. Dry and wet traction are better than my old Proxes 4's and a higher treadwear I believe. $237 out the door and I'm very impressed and
can no longer get a chirp out of 4th gear.

Yep, it's Andrea (see sig) :)
I did a lot of research too before settling on these. I know they're high performance which means they will wear faster, but I'm hoping they will last me 2-3 summers. I've had them on the car for just over a month now and LOVE them: great grip (I have a hard time trying to break them loose, even on cold wet pavement), awesome handling and they look damn good too. :D
The width you can go all depends on the offset of your rims. I can get away with this size because the mazdaspeed rims have an offset of either 50 or 55 (can never remember) and this is the stock tire size for the rim. If you haven't already, check out Rishie's Fitment Guide in the Tires/Rims section - that should give you all the info you need to know.
Yeah, and we have some nice twisties in the mountains too. :D

Not exactly sure. A header and catback isn't too loud. Even with the midpipe, it isn't terribly loud. It is subjective though. Try searching for opinions on what is louder or quieter. You could watch my autocross videos here to get an idea of what it sounds like: http://www.khaosman.com/gallery/waterloo0409?page=2
That was pre-exhaust leak :D

Well today i went today to try to find something for my car and ended up making a short ram for 50bucks. i found a pipe for another car that once cut workd wonders for my car. coming from the throttle body it had the same bend as the original then towards the end of the pip i cut it to make space for the MAS put a couple couplers on it then had another S sorta shaped piece which directed the intake right behind the Driver Side Headlight.
I do have one question though. I noticed that if i turn the pipe downward and give it a diff angle i can actually bring it right in front of the Transmission box. Does anyone see a prob w/t that or should i keep it behind the Headlight.

I'd probably keep it behind the headlight. It's nice and pretty far away from the engine there, and you don't have to worry about sucking up water.

for those of you that don't know, all poorboy's products smell GOOD. natty's blue smells like bubblegum, and the trim restorer smells like coconut. i don't think the detail bay has ever smelled so good. :D

Yes, 03.5 mazdaspeed racing harts, on 215/45 (stock size) falken fk-451's. imo, the rim/tire size and drop is PERFECT.
Nope, just the reflection. Nothing special on the fogs except 3m to protect from chips/breaking.
