View Full Version : What have you done to your P5 today?

yeah the ones on the front bumper are a pain to get off and put back on.. the side markers (clear) are way easier to do, exactly like kanseizm described, they push towards the back of your car, and then twist the bulb out and they're free.

Where are you in Canada? all the NEPOC people complaining about all they rain they've been getting too and in the great lakes region (at least lake ontario region) there hasn't been anything in at least a week or so. It's been unseasonably warm and sunny for the most part.
does look like it'll rain today though.

I used the P5 to run over my daughters scooter recently, the scooter won.
Bulb on the garage door opener burned out the other day and she left her scooter in the middle of the garage. I got home late, it was dark and I always back in so I didn't se it lying on the floor. Scrape, thunk. I have a nice mark on the bumper. Straightened out the handle bars on the scooter and it's good to go.

The silver bulb idea will look nice. I just have 24LED clusters in each so it's basically the same effect because the leds and their housing is clear.

Nice
What are people's thoughts on Espelir springs, I remember some people said they were really extra good and whatnot.
I'm planning to get some springs soon, but I don't want to run into the same problem I did with my accord where the rear was lower looking than the front. I also don't really know what to get, but I know I don't want to go more than 1.5" down. H&R has an ideal drop 1.3" but that's all around, and I guess I'd be risking the same problem again. Eibach always seem to go lower than advertised. Blarg
See what I mean. Those were with H&R OE Sport springs.

I too am going for the same scheme. I can't wait to see pics of the calipers after you paint. I am not sure how black will turn out on them. What kind of paint are you going to use, ie: gloss, metallic? Simple mod (if you want to call it that) I did last week was put a smoked shield over the ugly PA plate (white yellow and blue) (puke) At some point this summer I am going to get the DARE plate offered by the state. It is black :) and I have one currently on the wifes Vue.
Kansei
05-12-2006, 10:18 AM
Are you sure the DARE plate is still black? on of my roommates was looking into getting that plate because it was black but I guess they revised it and it is no longer black.
There is a black JTI (GTI with jetta front end) with black wheels, dark tint, and that dare plate.. it looks really good.
CTt3P5
05-12-2006, 10:32 AM
NOOOOOOOO! Damnit!!! I guess I will have to look into it before I drop the $35. I will just keep the blah state issue if the DARE is going to be the same color combo. Thanks for telling me Chris. At least it looks a little better with the shield.
Never saw a GTI with a Jetta front end. Contemplated changing my Jetta over to a Golf front end to adapt the dual projector headlights, but was a little to much $$$ for me at the time. Ended up trading it in anyway after the tranny was replaced around 70,000. I had a black Jetta Trek with smoked lights and the DARE plate with the smoked shield. Maybe I can switch plates from the Vue to the P5 and vice versa?

Sounds like a good idea though. The performance of a CAI without the painful process required to be able to look at the filter to see if it needs cleaning.

It is pretty well protected so it doesn't get dirty too much, but I make sure to always clean it after winter because it's pretty gross then.

I just follow the directions on the K&N filter cleaner.
Spray with the supplied detergent, run under a faucet from the inside, out using luke-warm water, let dry, re-oil, the end.

wished i was driving my baby... it's been almost a week since i've seen her. :( on holidays visiting ken (the captain himself), steve (lord zath) and the rest of the chicago-area mazdateam crew and am having a blast with the exception of the almost non-stop rain and cool temps.
tomorrow i head to steven's point to visit with paul (mr. detailer) and the wisconsin mazda contingent until saturday. i really hope someone will let me drive their car... for my rental, i was lucky enough to get a 6 with less than 500 miles on the odometer (2006 6-speed v6 no less; how i wish my car had the get up and go of the v6) but it's still an autotragic. i need a stick fix!!!!

What is this? Pick on Andrea because she's Canadian week?? lol I can't wait to get back to my igloo and take the dogsled to work each day...
To put it in perspective, the temps back home the past week have been warmer than what they've been in Chicago. Around 27C, so that's about 85F iirc, and sunny. Besides, just because I'm from Canada doesn't mean I like or can tolerate colder temps. I HATE winter with a passion; anything below 0C (32F) is too cold for me. Period.

I think I need some counseling. I've only been away from my protege5 for 90 minutes but I'm just so worried about her. Leaving her in other's hands just feels so wrong :( :(
Even worse, I've only been in communication with the shop via phone when I called to make the appointment. They've never seen my car in person before. I bet they are laughing and laughing and laughing right now. Let's just say I'm not their normal customer, but I knew they could be trusted.

Since now my mountain bike is my main mode of transportation, I'll discuss my adventures with it today.
It was a 27 mile ride from the shop to campus. No biggie, I thought.. well yeah I had to ride through the largest and most frightening government housing project I've ever seen, riding on my shiny japanese bike with a $4k USD laptop strapped to my back.
I made it to campus in under an hour o_O I really thought it would take a LOT longer than that, I guess I'm still used to hilly Connecticut roads.

If so......go to the dealership tonight, rip it off and sell it to me dirt cheap. :)
yes i left the dgmotorsports carbon fiber grill on the car. along wiht the carbon fiber hood. wanna be cf m3 mirrors, exhaust, injen intake, catz fogs painted headlights and cd player.. i sort of miss it. but every time i get on the bike it fills my urge to take curves ...and the bike can go way faster to boot. i just got the truck due to winter time needs and what not..
so when i post here now it will be stuff i do to the f150 or 600RR ;)
today i go to get some 17's and mud tires for the truck... and later wash it. and then even later go hit some s's on the bike :D

If you'd ever like to swing by for a visit, I'll show you some sights that will seal the deal... Yes I gripe constantly about winter and cold and snow and all the other crap that goes along with it, but I honestly love living here. The rolling prairies, the badlands, the forests and lakes, and above all the mountains. Absolutely beautiful, it's as simple as that.
As for the dogsled/gas prices... To put it in perspective. Just outside Chicago right now (where I am on holidays still), prices are about 2.89USD/gallon. Yeah, it's high. Back home when I left, prices were 1.05CAD/litre. To do the conversion:
1.05 x 3.785 (litres in a US gallon) = 3.97CAD
3.97CAD x 1.14 (approx exchange rate) = 4.53USD
We are paying on average 4.53/gallon of fuel. (shocked)
Your prices are not that high yet, trust me. And I want to go turbo in the next year or two. (poke)

Argh it is raining today so my car is miserable. For some reason, there is brake dust on the front wheels for the FIRST time since I've had the car, what the hell? I haven't changed the front pads since july so that's really weird. It must have just been driving 400 miles in the rain yesterday or somethin.
I'm noticing every little flaw with my car right now since I just drove a 91 Miata with 120k miles on it today and it was seriously flawless. I've got all kinds of rattles, buzzes, little quirks and crap. My car's ride is so painfully jarring over any pavement that isn't perfect (though she handles like a dream), and why the hell is our shifter so notchy? ugh the Miata had throws easily as short as my twm short shifter, yet it did it so smoothly. The paint is flaking off my front emblem and my rear "mazda" emblem, my front end is pitted and gross, my shifter is hitting the heat shield or something when I shift from 1-2, the paint around my radio, shifter, and gauges looks crappy, I screwed up the gauge faces (don't ask).. right now I just want to get rid of this thing :'(
Of course it is all my own fault. Everything that bothers me about the car is a direct result of my own poorly-planned modification sprees :)
I'll just wait until the sun comes out and I'll be happy again haha

drove it all night today through the rain
The rain stopped here so everyone can disregard my earlier post. I drove around the area since I haven't been home for three months and that's about it.
Oh and I looked at a 2001 red Miata for sale at the local Mazda dealership. I don't think I could live with a tan top and interior though, but I'm seriously considering making a miata my primary and only car right about now. I can't even begin to explain how perfect the 1991 I drove today felt. 0 undercarriage rust, only wear items have been replaced, no rattles at all, chassis feels good (and compliant over bumps as opposed to suicidal over bumps like my protege). It was my first time in a NA miata and I gotta say the interior in person is a lot better than it is in pictures. Yeah it's basically straight and flat but it has a pretty nice design to it. The 1.6 felt smooth and not at all underpowered (I'd say easily on par with my 2.0 in the P5 when it was stock, can't tell now with all the noise it makes).
I'm going to spend the week off that I have after finals (the week after next) trying to get my car to that point. I'm going to completely disassemble the shifter linkage and do some stuff with that. Maybe I'll look into these bronzoil bushings people speak of. I don't remember what bushings I have in that location. I think TWM supplied them because I seem to remember having the stock bushings with the stock shifter in a box somewhere.

goldline lowering springs. Supposedly from what I read they have a similar spring rate to the MSP springs but I don't know how much I believe it. Had the springs for 30k miles or so on the stock struts and now for the past thousand miles on tokico HPs.
The harshness might be more the wheels/tires than it is the suspension, but with my 195/55/16 snow tires I seem to remember it was basically just as bad.

Thanks. I should have purchased the filter eons ago. What a huge difference.
Chris, what camera do you have? They make filters in almost every size. Plus you can buy stepping rings to adapt.

Jimminy freaking christmas Josh! Great picture! I have admired your car through this post many times....but you have out-done yourself. Chris talks a good bit about not liking the P5 silver but your car (and his) does the color mucho justice. I can't wait to see more.
BTW.....it is my opinion a CF rear valance would be HOT on your car.
Dave.

How much do they run? I checked Powershot.com and saw the adapters for my Canon S2 IS... tempting...

Well I wanted one for my Canon Powershot S80. I sold my EOS 20D because I found that I would never take it with me anywhere because of the size... and because I didn't need that much camera all the time.
A quick googling found a shady site that sells the S80 offering this as an accessory:
http://www.prestigecamera.com/product~id~flk37.htm
The camera doesn't offer much of a means of attaching a polarizer. At least with many of the Canon A series models they have a removeable ring around the lens that lets you add the wide angle and telephoto accessory lenses.

Thanks Dave. I actually was debating a CF rear valance. Bazooka Joe (Mark) has one and it flows well with his silver car because he has the CF hood now as well. I sold my cf mirror covers and rear latch cover because I like the all silver scheme better. Not much else I really want to do appearance wise for awhile. Though I do have a full set of Brembo cross drilled/slotted rotors waiting to go on.
Ah...I see now Chris. Well your camera is the ultimate in portability and functionality. Tons of settings to play with, so that would help ya.

Took off one of the alteezas and drilled holes in the bottom. Been raining constantly here and I had water in it. Needless to say it was fogging up inside. Hopefully this helps, if not I will have to reseal it.

They are the Axiss Ultimates. Right now I have some HP+ pads which I like, but they were used and I was having some problems so I figured I'd go with these other ones.
As for autocrossing, I was happy with my times. I was pretty happy with my times. My best was a 39.1s. Some super good dudes in S2ks and RX8s on Hoosiers were in the 36s range. I run in FSP. Seldom are there any other cars in my class, let alone ones that provide good competition. So I just compete with my buddies :D Try to keep up with my friend who is a great driver in a nicely modded Civic.

it was a set i ordered for another member on here about a month before we set up our exchange/transaction. they came in no problem, so i'm starting to wonder if they were even ordered the second time around... i've had a few problems lately when ordering parts, so i'm not sure who to blame. (poke)
as for the rest, pm'd you :)

I am surprised that more peeps don't know about it, the SCCA has regions all across the country and offers a variety of things. Peeps that want to solo there are events, you can rally-cross or do time-speed rally events, me I am a corner-worker, first responder to an incident. If your not sure, go to an event and check it out, my region offers a 90-day temp. membership that gets you working that day(volunteering) to see if you like it. The fun, knowledge and comaraderie(?) you get is priceless-nough said

this is my first year doing it and I regret not starting sooner. It is such a rush being 5-10 feetfrom the racing line, giving a slower car the blue flag and seeing him nod his head to acknowledge it, seeing some og the open seat cars go by and watching the driver hustle the car through the corner. Anyhow if you are interested find out what region you will be in and contact the F&C chief and let him know your interested, you can then go to the track and get a temp. worker licsence(?) and you learn as you go. Some sites to check out www.ner.org comp.corner getting involved- there is a good write up on corner working and the stuff you need. You meet a lot of great people and see a lot of cool things, I have already done 5 races and am doing the rolex grand am race monday at LRP and 3 regional races Sat. and Sun. at NHIS. sorry to ramble and it is P5 related cause I take her with me to the events and have gotten to drive her on the track for a few laps (first)

hurts, don't it? i wouldn't have such a problem with gas prices if the major companies weren't constantly posting record profits... i don't begrudge anyone a minor profit, but come on. the buying power these companies have - and the fact that they've got their hands in the actual extraction, etc, of the oil - really, really pisses me off. :bs: gas should be 1/2 - 2/3 the price that it is.
ok, sorry, rant over.
