Lotus Tweaks Elise and Exige for 2006
Date Posted 11-07-2005
HETHEL, England — Lotus has made a number of enhancements to its Elise (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/ViewModelDetail/make=Lotus/model=Elise) and Exige (http://www.edmunds.com/future/2006/lotus/exige/100634277/preview.html) sports cars for the 2006 model year.
Changes include lighter-weight components, airbags, traction control and limited-slip differential, enhanced trim, adjustable suspension, and new, more comfortable seats. A new range of colors has been added — now you can have a choice of 21 colors on a Lotus Elise or Exige!
Four equipment packs are now available, two containing touring options and two containing sports options. The packs can be combined if the customer wants, say, sports handling as well as air conditioning. External changes include new LED rear lights with integrated reflectors and a new window seal fitted around the door that reduces wind noise substantially.
A new lightweight pedal box with steel pedal arms and extruded aluminium pads is introduced with drive-by-wire throttle for quicker and smoother engine response, and Lotus is the first car manufacturer in the world to introduce the ProBax seat, developed by NuBax, which helps to improve the posture of the occupant's spine. This results in improved comfort but also has significant medical benefits — maintaining a natural curvature of the spine and markedly improving the body's blood flow.
A switchable Lotus Traction Control System is available for the first time on the Elise and Exige. This works through the engine management system to reduce power when required to maintain traction. It is active above 5 mph and operates much more quickly than many brake-based systems.
