i had never done this, but a good aproach will be using a socket that fits nearly perfect to the outer edge of the bearing and banging it with a hammer, of course, being careful!

also, try putting some kind of penetrating oil or wd40 or soemthing....if it is for replacing, screwing the bearing wont' hurt...just becareful with the flywheel.

That should be good. Thanks

Are you planning on reusing the pilot bearing? As suggested knock it out with a socket and for a couple of $ you can replace it. Gently tap in new one with a rubber mallet if need be, must go in square.

I use a tool that fits it,but when I don't have one I just use a fitting socket.just make sure it fits the outer race of the bearing

actully you should go and rent a pilot bearing remover and a slide hammer.. do it right.. dont mess things up

How about to put a new one in to a new flywheel any special tools for that?

I socket that fits the outer race will work more then fine.
on a lot of cases I will choose a socket over a pilot tool.

You only need the special tool if the flywheel is bolted on the crank still. A mallet and a socket will work fine. Don't forget the release bearing and lube the contact points and splines with moly grease and torque the flywheel bolts in the right pattern.

Wooden Dowel is what I used.

Like a star pattern when you tighten the lugs on your wheel. The bolt directly across from the one you just tightened. Specified Torque range is 70.9-75.9 ft lbs, so torque it to 75 ft lbs.

(sleep)Thanks...but that was more for everyones knowledge....I figured it was like a wheel....I also assume you should put a dot of loctite on eace flywheel to crank bolt as well?

Locktight might just burn up. Used High Temp White is you plan to use any at all..

Yea, you really don't need to put any on as long you torque it correctly.

^^ Agreed, I didn't use thread lock...

Blow your piston ring?

lcruz64
11-13-2005, 06:22 PM
yeah that's what it looks like even though the rings on that piston look ok I'll post pics later.

Also, looks like one of your valves isn't seating correctly. Maybe it's just the picture. Did you do a leak down test before dissassemblying it?

Was it smelling funny when it was together?

It wasn't smelling funny.
No leak down test.
I need to clean all parts to inspect because with the oil I can't really tell if the surfaces sufered any damage.
I know for sure the pistons rings are burned.

Definately looks like some heat was on them at least once.. :(

Hopefully if the block is good some rings and you will be fine. I would liketo point out that whatever caused this might still be a problem so It will just happen again under the same conditions.

I already have pistons and rods so I will be installing those and selling the stockers. How much should I try to sell the stockers for?
I think this happened because I have the stock axle back and was boosting 10 psi sometimes so I was thinking installing an electric cutout and run it with the boost controller so that it opens up whenever I up the boost.
Here's some of the goodies that I have to install.

Well, the stockers have been "Abused" it seems..

I would polish them and sell them as a Paper weight rather than to be used in a motor...

Yeah that's true. Let's see how they look cleaned up and what the exact mesurements are. If they are not bent out of shape might ebay them to see what happens.

I took one of mine, polished the shit out of it and have it on my desk at work next to a Porsche Piston out of the 944.

That will probably look odd on the desk of a System Engineer but nice at the same time.
