I have a Joe Boost controller and a hot isde hard pipe with BOV (Turbo XS-RFL) and cannot boost over 7psi. I have the autometer gauge hooved up to the intake top vacuum and cannot for the life of me get over seven. I've tried adjusting the controller both ways, even to the extreme, but it tops out at seven. Any tips?

Do you have it hooked up to the wastegate actulator? Sounds like u have it in the

wrong spot.

And double check you have the lines hooked up correctly. The barb perpendicular to the knob (out side) goes to the wastegate, the barb on the bottom comes from the engine.

Yea, you aren't hooked up right at all. Good thing you didn't hook it up backwards; you would have pissed your pants after flooring it! 7 is stock for you? I ask because some of our cars don't hit that on their best days without a boost controller.

Anyways, you may just need to tighten it more. Sometimes the springs in those will get stuck and the ball will stay up instead of in the hole.

If you are sure you have it hooked up, take it out, loosen it up almost all the way but not till it falls apart. Shake it a few times and listen for a rattleing. Then slowly tighten it back down until when you shake you hear nothing. Then give it a few more turns and go for a spin with one eye on the boost guage.

Good luck!

Here is a dum question, wastgate actuator? where is that? When I bought it, Joe had some pics on line but now they are gone. I need a pic or a better description please.

dude,if this is your only transportation, and you have no idea what a waste gate actuator is,then the LAST thing you should do is boost more, and pop your motor.

The wasgate actuator is a cylinder with a shaft coming out of it that moves a lever. There is an air hose (Rubber) attached to it. The Boost Controller goes in there with the arrow facing the actuator.

Here's a turbo with the wastegate pictured. See the nipple on it. Thats where your line goes.

On a side note. Sell the Boost Controller and keep your hood closed from now on. I see your desire to improve your car and respect your intensions. Having said that... Sell the boost controller. It will only bring you misery. We have members on this forum who are licenced mechanics and avid (Well Versed/Read/All Knowing) tuners who basically know what they are doing and have still blew their motors at boost as low as 8 psi..

I have a crystal Ball... This is what I see for you...seriously, Not ragginy you out but I am serious when I say, Sell it, throw it in the trash and forget about it totally.

C'mon, we were all turbo novices at some point. Boost wisely and you might get lucky. Some MSP's are preloaded from the factory to explode. Seriously, some can handle the increased boost and others do not like it.

high boost becomes a problem in high rpms...so if you want to boost...say 10psi, dont over-rev, change gears before redline.

you should take off the boost controller and spend a day or two reading up on how a turbo system works. Corky Bell's book "Maximum Boost" would be a great way to get started if you find it tedious to read on the net. To figure out where the wastegate is, follow the vac line that comes off your intake manifold to the BPV (By Pass Valve) by your intake. The line is split in about 2 about halfway, one to the bpv, one to the wastegate. If you need more info than that you should not have the controller on the car, seriously.

um,that book will probaly be the death of his car.
it doesn't say how easily his engine will pop.

You said it best Dawiv. Most people love to regurgitate the 2 cents they know to make it sound like they have 4 cents. I checked the vac lines and they are hooked up correctly to the wastegate and intake vac. I even made sure the ball wasn't jamed up, I must just have a vaccum leak or something?
