I was driving my car today,I have around 60 miles now on the new engine, and I noticed my fan isn't coming on,at all.
it's been rather cold here the past couple times I drove, and the stock gauge is reading perfectly just under center.
I drove for around 15 miles, constantly stopping to check shit out.
I can open the coolent resivoir, and stick my finger right in,it's warm, but it isn't hot in there.
just wondering if I can trust the stock emgine tempp gauge(BTW it has a MPI,I just havn't had a computer for the last couple runs)

I don't think coolant in the resevior is used enough to get hot. I believe it sits in there till the coolant system needs to draw some in or spit a little back out.

I wouldn't trust it. I have never seen mine move when sitting in traffic, cruising or beating the shit out of it. If it was accurate, there would be SOME flucutation

Even after 30 minute track sessions mine's never moved from center once the car is warm.

It works if you actually start to run very hot. I ran out of antifreeze one day so mine was only half full and on the way to the parts store my needle started to climb. It works in the extremes and other than that it doesn't move much.

The gauge works. I think parts of the gauge have different ranges, IE- when it sits normal, just below 1/2, its like a 30C range, when it gets over 105C, it WILL go up. I have used an external sensor. It usually takes a LOT for this engine to get too hot, IE- 110F+ intake air temps, above 4k SUSTAINED rpms, slower speed (less than 50mph), AC on, etc.
The stock gauge DOES work, and when it starts going up over normal, it goes up pretty fast, so when I saw mine rise up a few times, CRANK the heat asap! Because the top 1/2 of the gauge goes very fast. I think the middle (and little higher) of the gauge represents about 105-110C and the top maybe 120C, where as the bottom half of the gauge represents COLD-105C (huge range)

Yep, its so over dampened its more of an "o-shit" gauge.

thats what it sounds like,I think I will play it safe, and get a coolent temp gauge.

Yup. Thats what most I have seen are. A "cold", "starting to get warm", "normal" and "shit man, check your head gasket, this shit is hot!"

make sure its pluged into the right harness. try turning your AC on, if the fan comes on its in the wrong one. also look into the temp. switch that turns the fan on.
I would get an oil pressure gauge before i got a coolant temp. i've never had a problem with the stock temp gauge. on any of my cars and i've had my share of coolant problems. unless your worried about plus/minus 10 deg i 'd save your pennies

I already have oil pressure,I wouldn't have started my new motor with out it.
I am pretty sure my problem is that since I only have one fan in,I believe the stock fans are running in series,so I lose one I lose then both.
I want to know the temp, because I have a hell of a lot of money in my car,and would hate to lose it because of a dumb as mistake like trusting a gauge that doesn't work for shit.

If you got alot of money in the motor then i'd go for the gauge, did you look at the wiring diagram for the fans?

I have an autometer coolant temp gauge and here in AZ in traffic, I have seen 225 degrees, but the stock gauge was still in the middle. So I think it sucks ass!!!! Definatly worth the cost IMO!!!

if the fans don't come on at all, you need to have them fixed. driving with out them is potential suicide, in any climate.

and thats why it's not being driven.
that fucking motor cost to much to blow from overheating.
I hate having a bunch of fucking gauges in my car,I like them without.
put I am forced to have them
right now I have -------OIL pres.---BOOST-----WIDE BAND-----and a narrow band/turbotimer.
and now I gotta add more.

have you checked fuses or relays? could be just those, or maybe even the thermostat.

My fan is hooked directly to the ignition through a relay.
