Does anyone know if the 1.8L engine in the 99 and 00 ES cars is an interference engine? Basically if the timing belt breaks, will the values hit the pistons? I've been told there are all sort of web sites out there listing this fact for every car in the World, but can't find it. I am at 62,000 miles on my 00 ES and thinking of replaceing the belt of now or waiting until 105,000.
Also does anyone know why two different timing belt replacement intervals are suggested, 105,000 miles/168,000 km for CA, NY, MA,CT, VT, NJ, RI, DE, PA, VA, and ME and then a different interval for the rest of the USA, 60,000 miles/105,000 KM. Is it a real mechanical difference or just something set up by the lawyers?
