When i got my car about a month ago it drove great, now it feels as if the clutch is engaging more at the top of the pedal and also its not as tight as it used to be when i got it (when i rest my foot on the pedal it feels like theres a bit of gap i guess that i can push, that wasnt there before, and before the clutch starts going it) might my pedal need adjusting?. I have done a few launches in it but i know the MSP clutch is pretty stout. i know that if i fucked it up i shall asssume responsibility for it but i just want to know if its going out or if something just needs to be adjusted. Also if i need to replace it i only need a new clutch disc or a whole new assembly? i know if i take it to mazda theyll try to talk me into buying a new transmission because theyre just like that. Yes i do drive it pretty hard sometimes. only on friday nights but other than that i drive it pretty mildly to save gas.

How many miles you got on it? When ours started to go it would be lazy going into gear, it would slip every once and a bit, and sometimes the engine even gave a lil rev... Anywho, if you have quite a few miles, like 55k+ then i'd be assuming it's the clutch

My new clutch is on the way. I knew cause the car was slipping when getting higher in the RPM's.
Do first to fifth shift and it should die also.

Just rev it. If the rpms climb but the car ain't moving as much as it should be, then you need a new clutch.

Guys, I'm new but I've got a clutch question...the other day I was driving my wife's '03 protege5 (bone stock), and I *thought* I felt the clutch slip a little when starting in 1st gear, and also when shifting from 1st to 2nd. It was just as I'd start to let out the clutch pedal, and though not terribly evident, it's there. I asked her about it and she agreed with me. Anyway, the car's got 48k on it and I'm wondering if this is normal for this mileage (its mostly highway miles). She doesn't shift it quite as I'd like, but she isn't real hard on it. If my clutch is going, how many $$$ are we talkin'? Is there any chance the warranty can cover something like this? Or is this just normal wear? It doesn't seem like a lot of miles to me. Thanks in advance.

I can tell you that mine was 5.8 hours for labor costs. The clutch itself was just under $400.
That sounds like what mine was doing to, it started to do it only when the car was cold, but eventually did it when warm too.
