I have that third gear problem and am out of warr. Dang it!!!
When I shift into third gear while being at a high RPM it sounds like I am ripping my car apart. I guess since I am out of warr I would have to pay to get it fixed now. Anyone know about how much this is going to cost.

my car will occasionally do that even if the clutch is in all the way it sounds like 3rd is getting stripped. I'm just going to change tranny fluid in spring

You could change the fluid with GM synchromesh and that could help it, but if
you are constantly grinding 3rd gear it will eventually go out and need to
have the transmission replaced.

the trannys on the mp3's aren't the strongest. i would occasionally feel my mp3 wanting to grind in 3rd. i would quickly get out of it and drop into 4th to prevent the grind and save the tranny. but this didn't happen too much. like maybe once every few weeks.

it hasnt done it in awhile and when i think it'll do it, it wont. I wish i knew when it does it so i can prevent it.

i always felt it right before. like as i was shifting i could feel something wanting to stop me from going into 3rd.

yeah sometimes it'll do that. i dont know, i just take it easy when putting it in third thats how i'm solving it until it gets Royal Purple tranny fluid

When I first bought my car and drove it home, I changed all the fluids. For the tranny I used Mobile 1 synthetic. After about 10 miles with that crap, third gear would grind something ferce unless I double clutched it. I changed the fluid again but this time used Redline MT90. Shifting not only smoothed up dramatically but also tightened up a bit.
I would recommend you change you tranny fluid first to see if that solves your problem. Use either Redline MT90 or BG Syncroshift, however there is a HUGE price difference between the 2. Redline is like $9 and BG is $22 per quart.
I know this will probably open a whole new "There is no better tranny fluid than....." but I believe those are top 2 choices.

ya same thign used mobile one that shit is worthless.... worst than stock tranny fluid. at least with stock i didnt grind as much... piece of shit.... pissed me off i paid like 40 bucks n it didnt even work right when i could had gotten redline for like 25 n it would had been perfect. now that its getting colder the mobile one wont grind til the tranny is warmed up. then when its warmed up (about 30 mins of driving) it will start to grind just at 3k when i shift it into 4th, now it gotten so bad that its startin to grind from 1st to 2nd and even 3rd to 4th... i dont think im that shitty of a manual driver..... but i might b idk... but im goin redline hopefully soon, so i dont have to deal with the grindin anymore. I DO NOT RECOMMEND MOBILE 1 SYNTHETIC TO MAZDA!!

this has been beaten to death... the top two choices, by consensus are the Redline, shockproof lineup (regardless of what it says about syncro trannies) and the GM/Penzoil syncromensh.
I personally run 2 parts Redline Heavyweight shockproof, 1 part lightweight shockproof, and have had no problems since switching. I also like the shock dampening of the tiny soft/solid particals in the shockproof products.
either shockproof or syncromesh you can't really go wrong, either is WAY better than stock or mobile 1 and will prevent/cure 95% of the typical tranny problems we G-series tranny owners experience.

yup, people here like royal purple or redline, redline is cheaper, but if its a few dallors more, i would just go with rp cuz i think it might work better.... idk. as for redline, i heard you were suppose to just use mt-90 n none of the shockproof stuff... doesnt suppose our tranny or something... correct me if im wrong. but i have read that people have used shockproof redline in their tranmission n/p. might just try a mixture of redline mt-90 2 bottles and a shockproof one. idk which shockproof though.

Think I am going to go with RP.
I used there oil in my car since I have had it (except for this last time!)
Thanks for the advice guys. I hope this helps.
