Hi all, I'm new here and would like to say hello to everyone. I own a 2001 super clean Protege DX with factory AM/FM radio only and would like to have the cd player option added to the system. Is that possible. It looks like the cd and cassette player could have been added as an option but the previous owner did not wanted. If so any idea about the price and would that be something I could do myself. I do not want to spend too much otherwise I'd buy an after market system from best buy or circuit city. I would like to keep the factory unit since I like the look of it. Any help and advice would be highly appreciated.

Man I wish I would have, I 've been thinking about it for a while. I almost bought one unit on ebay but I got out bid on last minute. Thanks for your reply.

I have this radio in my car(it actually fits with some modding, plugs right in)...I've got one lying around but don't know if the CD part works all the way because it clicks like it's trying to spit a disc out when no disc is in it. I never tried a CD in that one though(because I don't own any), might not work at all for all I know.
Luckily 3rd gen Proteges/'98+ 626s are starting to be found in junkyards...next time I go I'll take a look and buy one if I can find one...most yards charge like $30 for it.

Okay, I think I found one, but I am not sure if it has green light or amber. I am waiting to hear from the owner which the system belongs to his son and he is not sure of the color. I am intereste in green. Will see.
