Engine Whine Noise

Normally when you let the car cruise to a stop in a low gear, there is an engine whine noise as the RPM drops, the noise is also very prodominant when going in reverse at a decent speed. Anyway, I recently installed a short shifter and bushings and now I get that noise, except it is not related to the engine speed. I think that there is an ambluence with a siren behind me when I find out that the noise is comming from my own car. It sounds like a gear or belt or something winding down, but it's not the enigne RPM. Any one have an idea?

mines been doing the same thing. I doubt it's a belt but thought it was the CAI. I just tell myself I have a SC, cause thats what it sounds like:D

its the transmission, every 3rd gen protege i've owned did the same thing.

dont mind it, its normal and sounds cool.
