View Full Version : ABS addition
now.. winter is comming and for 5 month since i own my p5, i have expirience enough sliding on the road breaking hard in rain or on the dry road.
it came to my mind, if i can obtain abs module, and part, will i be able to just "add" them to my no-abs p5 and convert it to yes-abs p5?
will i need to make any adjustment on my ecu and such?
thanks in advance

its not entirely plug and play, looking at spending a lot of money by doing that

The P5 3 channel ABS system is terrible in snow.
If it's easy to remove, then you can buy mine.

abs if for grandma's ;)
jk, it's a good safety feature, but I'd rather my foot have control over brakes than a computer...just me tho

yeah, i'd like to have it on mine too
but, you're looking at not just the brain, but also
master cylinder
abs ... uhhh, "rings" on each wheel hub
4 new axels to allow fitment of the rings (front axels, rear w/e it has)
4 sensors
ecu - not just the abs brain
several hours labor to put it all in
i think that covers it, i'm sure i've missed something though
is it worth it?
sigh.... no

your better off just letting your non ABS car hit a slide into a wal, then getting a car with ABS from the factory

yeah it would be cheaper this way if you had full insurance coverage.
if you want to put abs on your car look at spending more than $1500 and taking a few days to get everything put together.

i found the brake system easy to modulate and control in a hard braking/panic situation.
ABS? I don't miss it. It is for 'simple' people who can't handle a situation (IMHO). The best manuever is AROUND the obstacle. ABS won't help you stop sooner. Good thing we handle so VERY well, eh? ;)

if you have ever used your car for what it wasn't designed for you would understand how nice ABS really is.
it DOES help you stop sooner,it makes you able to turn around an object while you stop as fast as the car is capable.
you have know idea how much it can really help you in rainy weather.
BTW,I can drive very well.

As far as being able to make you stop faster, it isn't a huge difference between the two least for most cars. ABS was never designed to make stopping faster, only to keep wheels from locking up and thus allowing steering input. Cause with wheels locked steering is no longer a option, ABS helps to keep this from occuring.
The ABS systems on the economy cars aren't that well. Learn how to bump your brake:)

was never origanly designed for stopping distance.
but I have watched to many stupid trianing videos.

I'm a bit lost with this thread. I have ABS in my P5. Is this another feature that the American P5 didn't get?

Yep, all canadian P5's have ABS and it's an option in the US.
