this happend to my last msp a few times. If the car doesn't even turn, Unlock and lock the alarm a few times. Its most likely the alarm giving problems.

I had a similar problems with my old integra. I would'nt start sometimes, the door locks would flicker between lock and unlock pos. The shit wouldn't even let me out sometimes. I think she didn't like black people. I couldn't leave my keys in the car ever cuz if i did, the second i turn my back the doors would lock by themselves. Anway the way i fixed it was that pulled out the alarm box, took that beotch to a dealer and traded it in for my MSP. Now my alarm works fine.

Steph, `

If the car clicks and the lights work then the battery is fine. Also, that typcily means the alternator is fine since it properly charged the battery the last time the car was on. Not to mention, you can remove the alternator and the car will still start and run until the battery dies.

It might be the alarm. There are 2 ways to wire a starter interupt inside of an alarm or with an external relay. One is normaly open which means that if the alarm is not happy, then the starter wire is disconnected. This sucks if the alarm dies becuase that wire will never pass power until the alarm is fixed, replaced or removed. The other way is to have it wired normaly closed, which means so long as the alarm is not pissed, the car will start. So essentialy, the alarm must be going off to stop the car from starting so even if the alarm dies, the car still starts.

This brings us to what was clicking. If it was a realy under the dash, and the starter itself under the hood, then the alarm may be FUBR. If the clicking is from anything other then a relay for or within the alarm, then the alarm is not the issue. At that point it is either that the starter is dead, the spark plugs aren't firing, or you are not getting fuel to the engine.

Close all doors, close hood and trunk, arm alarm, disarm alarm, arm/disarm again for good measure, open door, start car. Should work if your alarm isn't dead.

I had that same problem in my msp, and in my friends. It was something to do with the alarm, like a few people said. Just lock, arm, unlock make sure everything is closed. Its weird but its a common problem with some msp's.

I had this problem too. It was the alarm. I locked it and unlocked it a few times and it worked.

Maybe the ECU fuse blew (fuel box near the driver's side)

ZenProtege
10-18-2005, 08:02 PM
if the check engine light comes on with key on engine off the ecu is working, she said her dashlights were working which makes that unlikely. If the ecu fuse was blown I imagine it will still turn over but not crank but I've never tried it so i don't know. This situation reminds me why a DVOM never leaves my car.

The alarm may be the culprit but my guess is the battery. I know the starter soleniod requires much less voltage to engage than the starter, and hearing that the soleniod was clicking leads me to believe the battery didn't have enough juice to spin the starter motor but engage the soleniod. The soleniod and starter are controlledby the same circuit aren't they? If they are then I don't see how the alarm would let one work and not the other

peepsalot
10-18-2005, 08:09 PM
I had my ECU fuse blow once, and I don't remember it even clicking when I tried to start it. The coolant temp guage was pegged to the top(falsely) when I tried to start it.

If the battery has enough juice for the solenoid, but not the starter, then one way to tell I think would be to turn on your headlights and if they dim pretty much all the way when you turn the key then it's probably the battery. If they are not dimming too much when you try to start, then maytbe it is your starter or some other electrical problem like alarm that people have mentioned. (shrug)

The alarm unit has its own fuse my car would start and that was the reason. I replaced the fuse and the car started right up. Hope this helps Im not very car savy. The car should start if bypass the wiring harness just unplug the alarm part and just plug that end into the ignition if the car starts its the alarm.

Well they jumpstarted the car and it started fine. Dont know if it will hold the charge yet.. but I will find out in due time. In addition.. I now have a howling noise coming from the engine bay.. sounds like a pressure leak of some kind. Is most pronounced when I accelerate (under boost), and after the turkey.
Lesson learned...never let your boyfriend borrow your car.

thanks for the help guys

k something similar is happening to me. I wired in a TT last week, and now things are going funky. Yesterday she was acting wierd. When I stopped the car (even tho the tt wasn't running the engine - it was off) I get out and lock the car with the key fob, but the park lights (orange fronts and my brakes) and my dash lights as well as my little alarm light stayed on. I had to disconnect the battery to get them to go off.

Then I'm at a party and when I left (I had to reconnect the battery due to the light issue) I couldn't move my car without the alarm going off. I tried all the lock unlock arm rearm stuff but nothing worked. One time she wouldn't start, the other she started but when I moved the horn went nuts. I figured this was something I messed up with the tt so I reconnected the alarm wire that has to be cut so it can be armed when the engine is running. This fixed the horn/alarm problem (or enough to get me home anyways) but the lights still stayed on when I shut the engine off.

I'm gonna work on it some more today.
