well i just got home from a friends house on the way home there was a huge i guess puddle/water way on the road. and i didnt notice it until i hit it. i slowed down to a crawl when i was in it and then slowly drove out of it. its dark and i didnt notice how deep it was but it couldnt have been that deep but i am still worried. the car drove home fine with no bogging or any issues. when i got home i decided to check the air filter and the engine bay to make sure everything was dry. the engine seemed fine and dry and i checked the belts on the left side with flashlight and they were dry. the whole stock air filter was dry, not just the filter itself but the stock air box as well. i guess i am a little nervous since i dont want to hydro-lock the car but it seems fine and it made it home. any suggestions/ideas/whatever to ease my mind?

Since you still got the lame ass stock intake, and everything in the engine is dry, go to bed AJ, it is fine. If then engine bay had water all over it (except where you know the heat would dry it up immediately) then you are in good shape. Of course, if it was really deep, look for a nice coat of orange on the brake rotors.
If you had a CAI, you have more of a reason to be worried about hydro-locking your engine, and it would happen pretty quick.
Now go to bed, you paranoid freak!
lol!
i use a hose + simple green to clean my motor and drench it. i mean, i take certain precautions, but generally by reading your story, i wouldnt worry
ull be fine :D

well i went back out to check the lining under the hood and checked the engine again everything seemed fine. i looked in some areas again as well and overall the engine seemed fine. well the lining under the hood was damp a bit from where the front fans are which are expected in the rain. and then i checked around and on the drivers side and it was a bit damp in the area between the fuse box and stock air box. and it was damp towards the back windshield area. i beleive everything is a-ok though since i started her up again and she purred alieve and i reved her a few times for good measure. i just hope that nothing happens if i am on the street, i doubt anything will but i gots to drives tomorrow and well just a bit scurrd is all but thanks guys!

Your little puddle was about an inch deep I bet, and you freaked out when you started to lose control on the stock Dunflops.
Anyway, here is a nice little bedtime story for you, as you are gonna read this before you go to bed (and as I start my day).
When Iw as 17, I had a slammed VW Bug. I was out at a movie theatre with friends, and when we went to leave, it was pouring (like it had been for weeks) and the main road out of the mall area was bumper to bumper. I decided to take the old dirt frontage road behind the theatre that nobody drove on, and I would be able to bypass traffic.
I am a half mile down the road, when I see about 50-100 yards of water covering the road. No signs of the road dipping, I thought I could simply go over it. I crept the bug into the water, front end in, rear end in. I opened my door to see water at the running board. "Cool" I thought, as I gave it gas and proceeded as normal. Then about 10 feet in, the bug dives like a submarine , water slaps the windshield, back wheels in the air. I floor it, and as the back end comes back down, it grabs ground, moving the bug forward, and the car levels out. I soon realize, I am FLOATING, and the front tires are rudders, rear tires are props. I get all the way to the other end, scrape the shit out of the pan going out, and as I look back, I could see another some non VW bug car tried to copy, but got stuck.
I drove about 1/2 mile before I had to stop. I soon realized, brakes were flooded, drums filled with water, and no brakes! I anded up flying into a parking lot, where the motor died. Once I dried the cap and rotor, it started again, and I was on may way, slowly.
So that was my VW bug story. Yes they float, to a point. Good night AJ!

well i have minor damage from the drive last night :(
i drove the car and everything was fine mechanically. but later in the day i looked at the headlights because i was passing the front of the car and well i am saddened to say they are filled with condensation. and then the passenger side high beam bulb exploded in the headlight :( so yeah i am unsure what not but it sucks.

You did the headlight mod, right?

If it was really hydro locked, you wouldn't have been able to drive it home. Engine stops pretty much immediately on the spot and doesn't restart.

wooot for having to drive the car at night with the headlight issues it has!
anyways i am thinking of replacing the headlights since the passenger one has bulb pieces all the way on the bottom edge of the passenger headlight. i am thinking of buying a smoked out headlight. i am unsure about install though so yeah we shall see. i dont think i want the stockers simply because now after this they can get water in them anytime and condensate and i dislike that. they have never been opened or anything so i am pissed off cause i know itl be money to replace.
ken if you see this whats the price on some new headlights?

I can't remember the thread, or the exact procedure on the headlight mod, but IIRC that does involve opening up the headlights. Should be able to do that and get everything all taken care of without buying new ones. IIRC, it also involves an oven, which will definitely dry em out. So, you get the glass from the bulb out, you get the water out, and IMHO, you get better looking lights, and it doesn't cost you a penny. Just make sure you seal them back up nice and good like.

Or just spray paint them black from the inside, go for that "stealth" look. Goes well with Dunlops and water or snow at night. weeeee!
