what would cause my boost gauge to not read EXACTLY ZERO when turned off? (its slightly offset) is there anyway to 'recalibrate' it so that it reads zero again???
thanks

i have the Auto Meter Phantom series gauge....i was involved in a wreck but it was ONLY exterior damage NO interior or engine damage....kinda odd.....it read exactly ZERO prior to my wreck.....

this is an infamous problem with Autometer gauges.
I've not had my Blitz do it once.

yeah..I'm never buying autometer guages again..I dislike them greatly since my boost guage has never worked and they've kinda stopped emailing me back about how to fix it/repair it/replace it...so whatever. Never again.

I brought this up a long time ago,and everyone said"there is no problem with the autometer gauges"
this is the problem I was speaking of.
BTW,if you see yours doing this, chances are it doesn't read accurate boost anymore.

you will never find me making that statement; past, present, or future.
as a matter of fact, all i do is bitch about them being cheap.

your one of the few.
I made a comment about them comming back to the shop ALOT,and no one believed me about it
if you want to get a cheap autometer gauge, then just get the boost, not the boost/vac gauges.

is this issue just with the mechanical ones? my electric ones recalibrates every time i start the car. havent had that problem yet.

Try tapping it lightly so it goes back to zero. The wreck must have adjusted it out of wack. I love my Autometer guages. Better is a relative term!

you shouldnt have to "tap" any gauge for it to function correctly.
and this gauge is something you rely on to monitor the safety of your engine?
wow.

i have to agree. ive never had a problem with autometer. but then again i spend the dough on the full sweep elec ones. ive heard the problems with them though.

Look, I'm just telling him how to get it back to zero without sending it back. My engine is fine and so is the boost guage. Thanks for the concern.

I'm not concerned, it's not my car.
I try to buy quality pieces for my car, as I spend quite a bit to even keep it. I'm not going to order a cheap set of guages, which the sole purposes of are to monitor the car for safety/knowledge, just to save a few bucks.
This is like the debate when the member asked about eBay "MS" seats. Sure, they're seats and the work like any other, but would you put your life in the hands of a cheap knock off? I sure as hell won't.

Okay, great! Autometer's are not cheap guages. I have no interest in debating you at all. I was only responding to his question. I don't give a crap one way or the other what kind of guage some one buys.

wrong answer, autometer are cheap, cheaply built, and one of the cheapest priced.
if you disagree, your a tool,I have installed hundreds of gauges, and they are by far the cheapest.
you want a bitchin gauge,try greddy,or blitz.

STFU, your a tool. Whats with the names? All I know is they work and who cares if the don't cost as much as others.

My autometer does the same thing. But sometimes its over sometimes its under zero, but mostly its at zero excatlly. This all varies on how I turn the car off, because of the turbo timer. If i turn my car off without the turbo timer, it goes to zero. But if i rev the engine and then turn the car off, and let the turbo timer count down, it sometimes sits little over zero. But always read the same boost no matter what.

with the amount of threads similar to this one, i wouldn't be so quick to say that they work. ;D

You boost gauge being off in the "off" position could be also attributed to another factor here guys...Where it was calibrated according to sea level as well as the BP at the time and your location in relation to sea level as well as the current BP.

Guys he asked about the correct operation of its gauge. Why do you guys have to get angry and argue about this and that brand?
Let's help out the guy without arguing.

And BTW...you guys are sol anti-autometer its not funny...Take a look inside all of the Nascar vehicles....whats in them?
Now take a look at your local drag strip at all of the "REAL" race cars...The Dragster's....7 Second cars...Whats inside them?
There is the true answer...These guys have a lot more money invested in their vehicles than we will ever have in ours...I gaurantee you wont find one Greddy or blitz gauge in these cars....Doesn't mean those are not good but it does mean that these guys trust autometer enough to monitor a $200,000 car with a motor I am sure runs in the neighborhood of $50,000 EACH!
I know what I run....If we are all having doubts....Lets get a truely accurate gauge and check its reading compared to a few autometer gauges that dont show zero when off...If they read accurate when running...Then put the drama and doubt to rest.

Did it happen after the wreck? Not sure if it is showing the right psi then, if it's not back to 0.
I've not had a problem with my autolite series gauge for 38k miles.

the problem isn't that autometer itself is crap,it's there "affordable gauges" that are crap.there are plenty of autometer gauges I would run,but there are a fe that you need to stay away from.

that's funny.... but you forgot the other side of it. You see Autometer in American race cars. You see DEFI, BLITZ, GREDDY gauges Japanese race cars..... hmmmmmmmm
