Is there not a way to 'bump' the signal to the ignition to recurve it?

Could we not 'shift' the signal from the O2 sensors to lean us out at WOT?

I know we can't re-program - but can we diddle with the sensors to tweak 'em?

Why won't some one start a ECU reflash business? You know - keep a rotating stock - we FEDEX a ECU in and get another FEDEX back with the better program... For $200 a pop...

Big money to be made here...

so far the only people that can successfully flash our ford based/mazda encrypted ecu is the mazda dealer. and no dealer, not even mine no matter how hard i try, will reflash the mp3 code onto a protege ecu.

flyin miata dynoed a bone stock mp3 and thier stock protege5 and found an overall wheel horsepower gain of only 4 horsepower. the exhaust system from the cat back was different as well over the regular proteges which would make up some of the difference.

Plus don't you have to run higher octane gas to get the power out of it ????

yes, supposedly if you run lower than 91 octane the ECU will revert to map more akin to a stock protege

not worth a measily 4 hp to me......

i've ridden in a p5 with the mp3 ecu and a bunch of other mods, before and after the ecu install. i do like how it smoothes out the powerband, especially up top. if you can find someone to swap your stock ecu with and you dont plan on going turbo, its not a terrible mod.

Is there a beneficial flash that the dealer will do for a p5 ecu? Any ideas how much they want for something like that if they would? Mine is (2003.5?) June 2003 production date stock ecu...........

Sorry to bring an old thread back from the dead lol, but I've got a question about this:
yes, supposedly if you run lower than 91 octane the ECU will revert to map more akin to a stock protege

I'm planning on getting 1 soon, when I make the big jump from HS to STS lol. Anyway, I know this sounds dumb, but 1 of my concerns was having to run 93 all the time (college student for teh lose)...are you saying I could just run 87, and then, like, the next fill up b4 an auto x switch to 93, or would there be a longish re-learning period in there?

Probably a dumb question lol, I'm just curious

Dont forget the intake manifold. I'm sure it plays some part in the whopping extra 4whp

To answer the question - fill up on the high juice and then disco the bat and re-learn the ECU.

To bump this thread, the intake manifold is a big part. I got the whole catback from a MP3 and compared the piping to my stock piping. It looked exactly the same, so I just installed the axleback.
