I bought a used 2001 MP3 and it's great, but the fuel gauge doesn't work. Right now it is just sitting near empty. What should I do to fix this? The previous owner installed different backlights in the gauges so I suspect he broke it while installing that. However I took the gauges apart and didn't see anything glaringly wrong. I want to check the fuel tank but I have no idea how to access it. How would I go about checking the gas float and gas level by sight? Any other suggestions are appreciated.

remove the rear seat cushion, and there is the access for the fuel tank, remember to relieve the pressure that is in the lines before doin something

to relieve the pressure follow these steps:

Fuel Line Safety Procedure
Note
• Fuel in the fuel system is under high pressure even when the engine is not running.
1. Remove the fuel-filler cap and release the pressure in the fuel tank.
2. Remove the fuel pump relay.
3. Start the engine.
4. After the engine stalls, crank the engine several
times.
5. Turn the ignition switch off.
6. Install the fuel pump relay.

Well, this looks more complicated than I hoped. I'll look at it tomorrow, unfortunately it's dark and rainy out now.

be careful removing the screws to the fuel pump panel under the seat - they strip VERY easily
