ive had both front and rear motormounts for the last umm 30k miles or so and im starting to get tired of it! i havent been on the forums lately, but i was wondering if someone is selling anything softer then the AWRs but a lil stiffer then stock, and also i know alot of u have just the front one. Are you still experiencing any wheelhop ?

Check out Turfburns mounts. He has created a filled stock mount that is supposed to pretty good with killing wheel hop but still giving a soft enough ride.

Also, you may want to try swapping the inserts in your rear mount (the cheapest solution) AWR now has 70 durometer rear inserts that have much more play than the 88 Auto and 95 Manual inserts. Inserts are relatively easy to change without taking the whole mount out.

A third option is the new Weapon-R engine damper that is supposed to do a decent job of killing wheel hop with stock mounts.

thanks for the info! a few questions. i will have just the front one, will that be enough ? i dont know cuz i got them installed both at the same time. Replacing just the insert should be easier ? im not gonna swap it myself, the mechanic is charging 70 to change it back to stock, so ur saying he should charge less just to change the insert ? thanks

I would hope so, but $70 to change it back to stock isn't bad.

To change the insert all you have to do is pull the through bolt, jack the engine up and then swap the inserts.

But if you are going to pay someone to do it, I would hate for you to have to pay him twice if switching to 70 durometer is still too harsh for you.

ya i payed 120 the first time for the rear and front. i couldve done the front myself but he was still gonna charge like 110 for the rear so i thought he might as well do both. Now i found another shop he told me he would do it for 70, but as u mentioned i dont wanna change the insert to the 70 durometer and then back to stock. Can someone with just the front mt tell me how the car feels, vibration and wheelhop wise ?

You PUZZY! :p
JK Linux's mounts are 120 front and back and dude, you could loose a filling at low speed in that thing...(nervous)
I am sure I will be happy with my fromt #96AWR and the #70 in the back.

ya i have the 96 front and not sure if i have the 88 or 96 in the rear. i think im gonna go ahead and get the 70 in the back instead of back to stock

RR Racing sells rear motor mount inserts. i have the front ones only, and they work well.

erm, I still don't see what the big deal is about both mounts if you're driving your car properly.

I have the front and side inserts at 88 (automatic I think) and they are fine.. the vibration is hardly noticable now...

I've got the original AWR MT mounts, "front" and "back", and the only times things get shaky are when the RPMs are dipping low during starting off the line or when idle with all accessories on.

EVen then, it's not as bad as it's made out to be, IMO.

The mounts are a performace mod, not a vanity luxury mod.

I just received my AWR MM; I had a question that I hope you guys can help me out with (I didn’t want to start a new thread for a simple question). Anyway, I thought a while back right before I ordered the mounts I saw them list as BLACK insert for 70 durometer & red inserts for 88 & 96 durometer? Is this correct? I ordered 70 durometer & they came with red inserts. If anyone can let me know, it would be great. I’m going to install them today, so I hope I get some info before I head out. Thanks

That's cool man. I took a lot of you know what when I had it for sale in the For Sale Section. Not to say that this time around I was going to go back & forth with anyone (I learned that people have different likes), but I was just wondering why? I didn't take it bad though....Either way thanks for clearing that up.

My 70's front and rear were red as well. They feel more like 170's at low rpms under load. I'm going to drill out about half the material in my rear mount when I put the new clutch in.

So you have 70s front and rear and your still feeling pretty rough? Im thinking of taking out these 95s but havent come to that conclusion just yet. Im pretty sure once this winter passes and it warms up ill change my mind :)

I know it’s been said before, but dame is that rear mount is really BIG PITA!!!!

Well, mostly the wiring harness. Definitely get a friend to help, I did it by myself & it sucked big time….. You do feel a great since of accomplishment when you’re done.

I can do the rear mount in my sleep now. Except for getting the through bolt back in. This last time I did it, the through bolt was a bitch. Once you've got the harness stud out of the way, things get easier.

As for the 70's, yes, I think they're still too stiff. I don't think I'm too picky, I just expect my car not to shake and vibrate at a high idle or under load. After a month of having them in, I've got squeaks and rattles coming from places deep in the dash that I'll never find and fix. I'm not going to put up with it indefinitely, and am looking for a remedy for it.

Yeah agreed, should be much easer second time around.

As far as vibration goes, it’s pretty bad at certain RPM range, but the difference in drive train lash is unbelievable, my car feels faster it puts down the power much better now. I think I can deal with the vibration, but I thinking long term affect on the car. All that extra vibrating can be a problem down the line, say 100K or so. I have about 52K now. Anyway we’ll see…..

A little off topic but man your msp looks awsome in that color. Very nice. Im going to get mine painted sometime. A dark Midnight blue with 2 pearl coats. Its going to look pretty nice when done. I wasnt going to get the titanium repainted but then someone had to key the front of it on the hood and fender. Sucks but oh well. I can get the whole thing done here for about 600 bucks after supplies.

Neways yeah im going to go with the awr mounts. And i too am wondering if anyone has gone with just the front awr mount and worked great. Ive heard also you can buy some kind of hardener that still has give and fill the front mount and it works great. So im debating weather or not to go with both or just the front. My wife will have her car in a while so she wont even be hardly riding in mine anymore and i really dont mind the vibration so im leaning towards both.

And it doesnt look like its too hard to get to the back mount. I was just going to say once you get the through bolt out on the mount and also the front just jack the engine up as high as you can go and you shouldnt have any problems. Also consider taking off the left passenger side mount so you can raise the motor up more also. It shouldnt be hard but then again im a technician.

Thanks for the complement bro… That dark midnight blue with 2 pearl coats will definitely look hot. Hope to see pictures as soon as it’s done. As far as the mounts go, I would definitely recommend front & rear, you’ll really feel the difference. I’m a tech also, it’s not technically a hard job, it’s just hard to get the case that holds the wiring harness in place off. There are two bolts & the bottom one is the PITA to get off… It’s pretty much cake after that…

yeah i will defenitly get pics up when the paint is done. I plan on doing more mods later though. Its nice though, im a technician at a mazda dealer in az and its cool cuz im going to get some warranty work done before my extended warranty runs out in 16k miles. Im going to get the tranny either replaced or fixed. The third gear cyncro is messed up and grinds a little going into third especially when shifting a little faster and it had alot to do with the mounts because the whole motor moves alot and it makes quick shifting a pita. lol. Thats what happended though. I was trying to power shift into third and because the shifter moved so much when i tapped the clutch i only got it half way into third and from then out it started grinding. My sentra i had was easier to speed shift and alot smoother because the motor didnt move even though i didnt even have a short shifter on that. Ive been drag racing for a long time now so i know how to do it right but those mounts make it very hard. Even my best friend who is a really fast shifter said the car is so hard to quick shift.

You’ll see the light ones you get the mounts done. Be ready for some hard vibrations, I’ve had my mounts on for about a week now & the vibrating is pretty strong. <O:p</O:p

I have to commend you on thinking about changing your paint. Most guys here won’t ever think about changing the paint color. Not to say that the MSP came with a bad color choice, actually I love the black I had, but I wanted something different.

oh yeah. i love the titanium. to me its one of the best colors. but again it got keyed on the front plus ive wanted to always do one of my cars in midnight blue. Its defenetely my favorite color. I think it would look awsome in that also. Yeah i dont mind vibration but i know its all worth it. i will just start getting more rattles from the interior. haha
