91 Protege Hold Button Problem

Dunno if this is the right place but here goes. Got a 91 protege and while driving the hold light will come on and start flashing. The car will shift to second gear and the tranny will lock in gear, wont change. Why is this and is there a way to disable this hold feature so it quits doing this. Car runs great when it doesnt come on. On the gear shift there is a hold button but when push it doesnt do nothing. Tranny seems to shift fine so i dunno what the deal is with this light and why it flashing on and locking tranny in 2nd. Any ideas or a way to kill it would be appreciated ty

Had a 94 automagic that had the hold-button. That buttons allows you to hold a lower gear - I used it at the drag-strip. If it is flashing, there is a problem with the tranny. You should be able to engage and disengage it by depressing the button and it should not be coming on by itself.

same happened in my 99 Pro, but it wasn't a "HOLD" light but it was the O/D light along with a CEL,

that light flasing is a MIL for the tranny, meaning you have a electrical problem with your transmission
